I've been having those conversations ften years. The responses are generally strongly positive, with him being respected and even loved by the vast majority. One person in my circle didn't like him running for a second term, but agree that he's done a good job since.
If there was an election tomorrow I suspect Mickely D wouldn't be soo widely adored ...but then again there would need to be some one half decent up against him to actually beat him in an election. Likely candidates Bertie Ahern, Joe Duffy, Miriam O'Callaghan wouldn't lay a glove on him.
Maybe Gerry Adams would have a chance.
I wouldn't judge by the opinions of Boards people. The poll here made Peter Casey the strong favourite in 2018. In real life, whatever MD did from 2011 to 2018 resulted in a massive increase in his vote in 2018, and Casey was a distant second.
Only 44% of voters bothered voting though. If a candidate could be agreed among the main parties and an election avoided I wouldn't be annoyed. There was no opposition to McAleese in 2004 so she got a second term without an election. Not much prospect of that happening now, and we can expect the likes of Gemma O'Doherty and other assorted misfits to throw their hats in the ring.
If a candidate could be agreed among the main political parties then I for one would be annoyed as I was in 2004 when McAlesse was put forward and elected unapposed, fourteen years was far too long between elections where the citizens were given a choice to elect our Premier statesperson.. It was an unhealthy development at the time and I sincerely hope such a scenario doesn't arise again, it's not good for democracy allowing the "main parties" to agree a candidate and provide the electorate with a sort of fait accompli.. Slippery slope there

Noticed that. The "contributors" were nearly suggesting that the money scandal at RTE will be the making of Tubs..... even though the new job is quite clearly a step down money wise and will require Tubs to work a helluva lot longer & harder...at an unsentimental commercial station.
There's a cosy little cabal in media in Ireland its as bad as the "luvvies" in the entertainment business. Nobody will dare diss anybody else for fear of reprisal or getting cancelled.

Brendan Courtney is nearly getting as bad as BO'C. He just nearly had a heart attack when a guest said "as soft as a babies arse".
In fairness I don't think it's necessarily the present's fault if the guests use inappropriate language.

Ah right, thanks for that. Never heard about that incident, but it would explain his nervousness. Still you'd wonder is it time for him to move on from it, as it's clearly affecting discourse on the show. From what I've heard at least.
Its like Sky TV who apologise when hundreds of football fans chant something iffy on the terraces.
Why are sky apologising? They weren't chanting? Everyone is so quick to apologise nowadays.

It completely interrupts the show, he’s like a school teacher in his approach to guests. Some presenters are a bit too lax and let shows turn into a mess of people shouting over each other, but BOC takes it all just a little too far.

I think it's not right in any language.
To take the the two cases in point -
The original expression was "soft as a baby's bottom" which is as descriptive but not as coarse as the alternative used on the show.
Hooker is a pejorative description of people engaged in the sex trade, mostly used in reference to women. Those people prefer to be called sex workers nowadays.
Guests on radio shows are also guests in our homes, cars, workplaces,waiting rooms etc. and we have a right to expect some standards.
If they want to be edgy and use coarse language let them do so in their own homes or social circle.
Similar but not quite the same.
You are right Sky have no control over a big crowd in a stadium.
Broadcasters with a few guests in a radio studio can and should insist on better standards.

Arse & hooker, there's absolutely nothing wrong with those terms, enough of the PC nonsense.
If guests were fcuking and blinding and going on about screwing and riding and generally being objectionable, I'd be with you.

For maybe 40 weeks per annum? Think he's near the top of the charts in the pay per hour table that was shown somewhere in the radio forum last week. Plus a handy column in the Sindo
