This year was great for growing turnips and carrots. I've used up most of my carrots, but have tons of turnips left. I'm tired of stew or simply boiling them. Any great recipes that showcase the turnip?
In a town in Switzerland they have an annual turnip parade in November called Räbechilbi. All the street lights are turned off and residents have to carve turnips and decorate outside their home and turn off the lights inside while the parade is on.
One family carve 800 of them for their garden. Video here if you're really interested! https://www.zueritoday.ch/zuerich/kanton-zuerich/warum-familie-bachmann-800-raebeliechtli-schnitzt-154868437?autoplay=true&mainAssetId=Asset:154868395
That looks amazing!
This was the first Halloween in a while that we haven't carved a turnip.
Here's last year's👻
And you're saving it because? 😮
I can't imagine they work universally as a straight swap for spuds, tbh. Can't really see a turnip/swede working in a malay or massaman curry, for example.
I can’t believe we’re still talking about bloody turnips! 😝
But are they turnips or swedes???
Turnip turnips or swede turnips. It’s all too much!!!! 😂😂😂
Whatever they are called, I would classify them as the dregs of the root veg. Struggling to think of another common vegetable that I dislike more.
Sprouts?
(though I think more palatable versions have been developed in recent years, unlike the yokes that we used to get.)
Our fat purply yellah fleshed friend is well deserving of its own thread. Did you know that the day that the turnip (swede) is harvested is celebrated all over the world as Baldrick's Birthday! Very important we remember that! 🤨🤥
Does it reach such a simultaneous peak of ephemeral perfection that they are all harvested on the same day? 😀
last thing I thought when I looked at this tread was there wont be much of a turnip, seems im wrong
It seems Baldrick has many birthdays!! 😁
