Feels like the right time to start a new thread for next year's gigs.
John Mayer playing the 3Arena on 29 March 2024.
When you Google who they are you'll realise the reason they're news worthy
Learn something new everyday
Fair play too them
If they do it like Hyde Park last year, the golden circle area will be reserved for 10c members, not the newsletter one
i don’t think the smile are anywhere near the draw of Radiohead. Even die hard Radiohead friends of mine weren’t exactly gleeful about 3 arena news.
13,000 is alot of tickets for a side project
It’s not a bad venue for an arena. Honestly find people going to bar more annoying in olympia and vicar as smaller aisles/less standing space.
There is no evidence whatsoever, that this is a “side project”, by the time this gig happens, it will be almost 8 years since the last Radiohead album.
Radiohead are on an indefinite or possibly permanent, pause.
They have a 2nd album out in Jan, also had a live EP and 2024 will be their 3rd consecutive year of touring, so its really, a long way from a side project, now, more of a permanent fixture.
“a side project is a project undertaken by one or more people already known for their involvement in another band”
it’s the definition of a side project given the infamy and longevity of Radiohead.
The Smile would want to up their game to sell tickets. That new snoozefest of a tune isn't going to shift 13k.
I reckon ACDC might be the weekend of 23/24/25 Aug or before
Coldplay stage be going up from the 26th/27th
Radiohead are done though, right? The Smile the best youre gonna get from these players for time being. Their stuff is in line with the most recent Radiohead sound, similar themes and tones, the two key members centrally involved. There is nothing "second rate" about it. Huge production value and merit - the equal of a Radiohead record.
Don't think Wings was ever viewed as a side-project...
Amazed that they're opening the top section for The Smile. Zero chance that sells out with the whole place open. Radiohead they ain't.
QOTSA supporting AC/DC? No chance.
Tbf, The Beatles had broken up by then !
The Smile is a tad heavier, than Radiohead, but having seen the Smile live twice, its fairly close to a Radiohead gig, allthough more limited, as its a 3 sum
The only huge surprise on the new Smile album, is that Goldrich appears to have no involvement, if i am not mistaken, its the first time in 30 years, an album Thom has worked on, in a band, or solo, that has not had Goldrich involvement. The only exception, is the Radiohead debut album.
I heard an “unsubstantiated” rumour a while back that, the rest of Radiohead, will no longer work on a new Radiohead album, IF Goldrich is involved, due to too much influence in decision making.
I doubt the upper tier will be opened until the lower level and standing has been sold, that seems to be the standard procedure with lower demand events in the 3arena recently.
Yeah Busted technically 'sold out' but the upper tiers were closed and it was half standing configuration (curtains up infront of the concessions stands)
Ah nice one. Saw him at EP while he was playing that album, I'm quite fond of it saw him shortly after in Whelan's, very good.
I'd be a fan but of time I've seen him was supporting First Aid Kit at Collins Barracks and thought sound wasn't great for him. Might be better suited to smaller indoor venue like Vicar Street.
Not sure whether this indicates anything or pure speculation
Just a rehash of the buzz.ie article
They might wait til post Xmas to announce it. Who knows
Absolutely. He's at his best with the delicate stuff. Phenomenal guitarist.
TM's site saying it's Wed 15th not 17th.
3 arena/artist presale from Wednesday, mcd pre sale Thursday and general sale Friday as per TM
Looks like only the Glasgow gig, is the only fully seated gig on the Ireland/Uk tour, allthough Alexandria Palace is tbc, but thats always standing as far as i know.
So got presale for all of these. In everyone's experience who has the best allocation of seats? From Three, MCD or artist.
Or is it entirely random each time.
3 mobile will have the least available. Artist and MCD allocation is changed throughout pre sale window with more blocks/rows being added to meet demand
Sorry mate, I meant best seats, not number (allocation) of them.
They all have a mix, but as promoter and artist have much more so therefore more bad ones
Cool, cheers
I go for standing for almost everything, but on those rare occasions i went for seats, i found that the3 Presale have the worst choice, Promoter presale, a bit better, and artist presale, better again.
3 presale is apparently 10 % of total tickets, so, for a 13,000 capacity 3 arena standing gig, its not that many, if people are buying 2 and 4 per purchase, and usually means seats are not great, as so few available.
However, 3 presale & promoter presales are very handy for standing, which is why I use them regularly.
Tool just announced its EU tour but no Dublin…
