If I moved in the first thing I'd do is rip down that picture of Jesus.
All right calm down there Sinead 😁
We moved into a house about 35 years ago that had - according to the neighbours - been full of large religious statues. They were all gone but a Sacred Heart was left on one wall. We were getting some work done but no-one was willing to take down the picture, very unlucky apparently, though that raises all sorts of theological questions. However when I realised what was happening I went and took it down and disposed of it, so all was well. I didn't notice any ill-effects 😁.
Nice house but right on the road. That’s the main Waterford to Carrick, Clonmel and Limerick road. Very busy and the bypass got shelved in favour of ‘active travel solutions’. How that gets trucks out of villages is beyond me…
Was clearing out the Old Pairs home earlier this year prior to sale (they are dead for a few years) and got one of the rubbish collectors to call and take away most of the furniture etc. They wouldn't take a sacred heart picture or crucifix as they said it would be bad luck. I had to dump them myself.
People are superstitious about things like that. I used to be involved in cars sales, new and used.
Anytime we took a trade in and the car had bottles of holy water, Padre Pio, crucifixes etc in them
we would leave them there. A lot of people still do. Probably would offend some folk if you did it
these days! :-)
Setauket back up for auction next week with a guide price now of €890,000.
Can't see anyone paying that unless they are going to turn it into some sort
of Disney/Frozen theme park! :-)
Setauket, 6 The Birches, Torquay Road, Foxrock, Du... - BidX1
The background (I'm sure you know) on this is interesting. https://www.irishtimes.com/property/residential/2023/02/02/ten-beds-eight-baths-one-big-refurb-bill-foxrock-mansion-ready-for-multimillion-euro-investment/
Beautiful neighbourhood.
You’re essentially buying a site in Foxrock as I can’t see anyone keeping the look or the layout of that property. It’s also enormous at over 10k sq ft which is not unusual in places like NY but it’s far too big for most here
Yeah but look at how thick those walls are. Thatch is an issue, alright. I wonder what it would cost to convert. Looks like the neighbours did it.
It wouldn't be to my taste either (I do not like open plan living rooms and kitchens) but for a single person, or a couple downsizing, it might be interesting, as its not in bad nick otherwise.
Not familiar with the area, but I could see how that would be an issue for some, too.
As for the holy picture, I'd take it down and sage the place. :)
Where exactly is the 1 bedroom here? Is it the hole in the ground?
Well the bedroom and bathroom must be in the ice house 😂
It just shows how much estate agents proof read before posting doesnt it.
I was very confused, thinking there must be more photos that I'd missed!
Probably had to pick a minimum bedroom number because they mistakenly listed it as a property and not a piece of land. Gobsh!tes.
Its hard to see what use this piece of land would be to anyone. It says its heavily forested so I dont think anyone would get planning permission to build a house on. Given it was once part of a walled garden and contains an ice house it could be limited what can be done with it for historical reasons.
The photos dont show much being honest. It does look like the owner needs some money and is trying to sell off part of their property for a quick buck.
There’s something appealing about this house, to me at least. Leaving aside the visible water ingress, the dreadful kitchen & the puzzling layout plus however much reconstruction work would be required, I think ripping out the carpets & going through a few buckets of white paint would improve the look of it. Nice & all as it is, I wouldn’t want to live there though it could make a nice little bijou hotel.
The problem is the neighbours would not be happy with a hotel or AirBnB or any other new development, I'd assume. The houses look close enough together for what is such an expensive and exclusive cul de sac.
It looks like a Souterrain.
EAs generally use '1 bed 1 bath' as a minimum description of any site with a derelict house on it. However they do not always acknowledge that derelict has shades of meaning in Planning terms. Bits of a couple of walls will not get you automatic permission to build, you have to be able to show that the at least partly intact building was last used as a residence, ie it has not been used as a shed or for animals in the meantime. Also things like suitable road access and suitability for an up-to-regs water treatment system have to be accounted for too.
Fergal Naughton's former pad in Howth finally sold according to the IT. Started at €10m, closed at "slightly less than €8m". Beautiful house and gardens in a wonderful location. Once owned by the John and Trudy Hunt who were responsible for the Hunt Museum in Limerick.
"beautiful ground level duplex with superb views over the Owenacurra River"
Timing is everything.... it's in Middleton
To paraphrase some of the negative reviews on TrustPilot “Giving it one bedroom because I can’t give it none”
Formerly rich idiots support group I’d suggest.
“A large contemporary house built in 2008” is a definite give away i.e. self made man’s celtic tiger business ground to a halt and took “my house is my castle” plans with it. Not a single redeeming feature, cheap nasty fit out, ill fitting furniture, internal steps between different levels, odd shaped rooms, etc etc
It’s been on the market for over a year, presumably while self made man waits for the right buyer “who understands and appreciates his vision” to come along and pay “what it’s worth”…..
If the hens come with it I'll take it.
The property and setting are the bee’s knees.
250k for a site that will shortly be in the sea….
good luck with planning or a mortgage..
Jesus anyone that buys that I have some magic beans they might be interested in too 😁
It looks like there isn’t a square foot of flat ground on that ‘site’. It’d be good for nothing other than maybe sticking your caravan on it for a summer. Your sea views will get closer on a month by month basis.
Don’t throw your beans idea to the winds. If a giant beanstalk grows out of it, they might be able to consolidate the cliff.
The bit of cliff along there is rock and pretty sound, unlike bits of the cliff further along the coast. Still I don't think I would be investing.
