I didn't realise that there was so much money flowing through the Trust. In around €50m in 2022 alone.

i love how the insult and shock is they get nearly 40 mil a year from the government - rather than being shocked that the government spends 40 mil a year giving a housing charity money rather than building houses
No need for the drama queenery. Having an unsatisfied revenue debt is neither corruption nor criminal fraud. Never has been. Revenue have never suggested that it is and, if anyone has a motivation to big up the seriousness of the matter, they do.
I don't know the ins and out of what went wrong, I'd suspect its to do with poor management decision's that why the provision of support should be split from the provision of housing and the likes of PMVT should be providing support and a well run housing body should be providing the housing. I know this upset another poster but if society/tax payers are funding service's then we the funder are entitled to ask is the support working.
The government asleep at the wheel yet again. FG thirst to private absolutely everything is another disaster of a policy that has backfired.
I have never asked any of those questions in this thread are you mixing me up with someone else?
It is indeed odd , MvVerry is a media darling due to his staunch left wing views so he was guaranteed his usual softball interviews
37m government funding, and 14m donations.
If this stops being a charity and is entirely government funded then the 14m stops flowing in to places where it is needed by the most vulnerable people in society, surely it makes sense to have this as a charity.

Peter McVerry Trust sued by Killarney firm over failure to complete site purchase
The Peter McVerry Trust entered an agreement with the current owners Nocwerdna Ltd, High Street, Killarney, to purchase the greenfield site.
Peter McVerry Trust is being sued by a Killarney company to complete the purchase of a town centre site for sheltered accommodation to house young people.
Planning was granted in 2021 to a private individual to build an eight-room, sheltered accommodation centre on a derelict site/greenfield site on Fleming’s Lane off High Street in Killarney town centre. The facility was to house young people coming out of care.
The Peter McVerry Trust, a national housing and homeless charity, entered an agreement with the current owners Nocwerdna Ltd, High Street, Killarney, to purchase the greenfield site with a view to constructing the sheltered facility.
Honestly hope they get shut down the hostels were so badly run. Wish i could share more about my experience but i and friends i made there have been threatened by other hostel residents so dont want to identify myself.
Planning issues also for PMcVT, it seems they decided to put a lift into an historic building with no planning, they now have to remove it and repair the building. Costs will be massive to fix it.
The former boss had concerns about this also...
Questions again about the senior Mgmt of the organisation.
From The Dublin Inquirer:
Several millions paid in relation to Avalon House, Aungier Street - doesn't appear to have housed a single homeless person. Unclear who the money is even being paid to, or why, or what role the McVerry Trust is playing.
According to the finance reports the Dublin Region Homeless Executive (DHRE) paid €2.36m for Avalon House in 2020, €2.3m in 2021 and €2.4m in 2022. It notes the service provider through those years as the Peter McVerry Trust.. A spokesperson for the DRHE says the building is not currently used for anything, but that the Department of Housing has approved funding for renovations so it can be used again.

I know, I just saw that yesterday. So exactly who is the council paying money to here? Is it the PMcVT? Talk about a right sh*tshow. They wanted to run roughshod over planning laws and were pulled up on it too.
As predicted. Chancers.
Not one cent of our money should be handed over.
A school was out collecting for them in Rathfarnham this morning it was one of the charities they were collecting for. I would seriously question any charity and school that sent young boys out onto a busy road to collect from cars stopped in traffic.
In the news again today:
More very dodgy behaviour.
Was talking this week to some distant relatives who have had recent experience with PMVT who were organising rental to Ukrainians. To call the interaction unprofessional would be flattering to PMVT.
Once again in the news:
That’s not simple mismanagement, that’s very serious.
Massive breach of independence rules from the auditor, and from PMV management
I notice the man himself Peter is staying very quiet on all thats going on. Normally he cant shut up.
It seems there was alot of parties ( not the homeless) benefiting greatly from this charity. It seems this charity had any interest in improving/solving the homeless crisis at all as its a lucrative business. I never liked P McV at all - I always thought he was a bit gullible or blinkered to the reality.
He's remarkably quiet alright particularly as he is on the board of directors and is the honorary secretary of the Finance,Audit and governance committee that reports to the board of directors....
Whatever about titles he's remarkably quiet given that the name of the organisation is "The Peter McVerry Trust". McVerry trust alright 🙄
Now that is a big problem for the auditor.
Bloody Hell, this stuff just gets worse and worse. It'd make you think what is going on at the other NGOs/Charities/Non profits in this country.
They just spelled it wrong; it’s “McVerry! Trust?”
No wonder no one in Ireland trusts charities.
They were running that charity as a business and I suspect there is still loads more to come out.
The thing will eventually get disbanded and the State will have to cover what they do. What they should be doing in the first place.
I've no confidence in the services that are actually provided by this organisation anyway.
If I was a director, I'd be taking myself off the board, very quick.
Well we have quite a few examples of shady dealings on lots of charities in Ireland. I would go so far as to say that I am convinced from the sheer number and level of shady dealings that we know about that are only the tip of the iceberg. Wouldnt trust ANY of them at this point.
I have being saying here for years and banging the drum that the whole “homeless” industry in this country is a scam and a cash cow for many people including the tenants.
From the top down to the bottom is rotten.
Full of chancers and the tax payer has fitted the bill for the lot of them.
From the Dublin Inquirer, coverage of the Dublin City Council meeting on reacting to the impact.
In 2019, the Peter McVerry Trust was accommodating around 850 homeless people in Dublin each night, according to its website. Green Party Councillor Janet Horner asked what would happen to the homeless hostels. “One of the major concerns at the moment is that any contingency plan would involve privatising services,” she said.
Mary Hayes, the director of the Dublin Region Homeless Executive, said she hopes that will not happen.
“It’s our absolute priority that those buildings don’t revert to PEAs [private emergency accommodation],” said Hayes. “That we would like to retain the NGOs and have them on a sustainable footing.”
Dublin City Council didn’t respond directly to a question as to whether that means that the plan is for other charities to run those hostels.
Another update shows that PMvT is "reviewing" plans to provide 500 homes .
They also say that "a more cautious approach to expansion would have been more prudent "
As a result of this mess the Dublin regional homeless executive is going to organise independent audits of all charities it funds to run homeless services...
Mess is going to get messier I suspect...
