Put the wire's up a bit and hang single lengths of electrical fence string 18-20'' down off them with lead as a weight. Reduces the risk of the wire being pulled down.
Have you a spot to put them out for the winter? They would prob do well out if you did
Buy a roll a wire and insulators and tie up the wire with a good shock
I have a couple of two year old bulls. Very quiet together. I put in a few 9mt old bucket fed weanlings with them, like I do every year. But this year the bulls have gone mad, bulling them, not fighting but actually jumping on them. They spent 5 hours at it till I took the poor fellows out.
It was like an American prison film.
Will I have to throw the two bulls out for the winter. Very annoying
Sure couldnt you face a parlour anyway u want and collecting yard behind
Big advatage of circular yards is that they offer an easier option to have the milking parlour exiting towards the fields..
A long narrow yard is a better job if it suits the farmyard layout. As long as cows enter the far end…
If for some reason the cows are walking up past the parlour before turning 180 degrees to enter then a semi circular yard is definitely more suited.
No
Are you say to put calves in the corner of a collecting yard.not something I d be a fan of
Are/have you signed up to any?
Latest Kerry Fixed price 39.2 up from 38.5 last time.
IMO Using the wasted space for calves likely to affect cow flow. Also calves wouldn't want to be sharing the same air space as cows.
Or can always square roof a circular pen and use the wasted space for storage or ly back for calves etc
If you want it roofed I'd say stick with a slatted rectangular yard and use it to buffer feed if possible
Yes I use one regularly. About 24m diameter. Yard slopes to the centre. Backing gates are built in 3 dimensions for strength. Gate is water powered, probably about 10 bar, high volume wash down pump. There are 2 taps on the gate depending on whether you are going forwards or backwards. There is a scraper on the gate so cleans yard.
Excellent cow flow, but think rectangular can be just as good, if done right. Circular is useful if you have 2 mobs of cows. One disadvantage is it's a much bigger job to make it bigger, if ever needed. With a circular yard you can always see the backing gate from the pit, which is useful, less chance of hitting a cow(s) with the gate.
2 issues stick with me .1 if we needed to increase area.its a big job and 2 I'd like to have it roofed and circular doesn't lend it self to easy covering
Thanks - your Google skills are better than mine.
Also found the following on the IFJ website: €16m worth of beef went to China from Jan to August this year.
In the same period, €1.7b was exported in total. That makes the Chinese market around 0.1% if my maths are right.
Some shite on morning Ireland this morning. I missed the start of it but think it was about some documentary based in the future in 20 or 25 years time. Of course they start on about climate change and farmers are getting the blame for what has happened. Not a mention of the Transport industry or the use of fossil fuels. You’d be forgiven for thinking that RTE was under the remit of a green minister.
Here ya go -
Heard it on the Radio-1 news yesterday evening. You'd think "beef farmers" (they never mention "beef processors" or "beef exporters") were going to have to shut up shop the way they told it.
Just looked online and couldn't find the figures, but does anyone know just how little Irish beef was going to China? Be handy to have that % to hand when the usual self-titled environment activists start jumping up and down about this as a good result on Twitter.
Rte doing its best to hype up the hse story.they really are one hell of a shower.
I imagine they take up a lot more space and you probably need more length on the race for it yo work effectively. All of this would increase the cost of the handling faculities
Anybody have experience of round collecting yards .we have to a bit of work to extend the collecting yard tank fir the new dairy washing regs and it has put me thinking about the collecting yard design and crush and handling facilities .I ve always liked the idea of circular yards and backing gates but not many that I know of around here so I m just throwing it out there
The interlock doesn’t tend to break but stuff can collect under them over time. Might see bumps. Easy enough to lift and clean under.
When I was doing calves 10+ years ago I always found it hard to buy out of a yard than out of a mart. There is a lot of talk about disease control and stress but buying off farm is too expensive IMO.Having said that I saw deals last year for lads taking calves off farms such as drums of beastings and milk not out of withdrawal periods.
its the same as a lot of farming activities lads will not put the time into it. I used to find the same buying stores or weanings direct off farms. Lads expected top mart prices. Nearly everything direct out of marts at the moment. If it was calves I be doing the same.
any fear the interlocks would wear over time ??
Blue mat 1m2 great job interlocks together not expensive either
If u wait around enough marts there are certain times there is simply no customers. The dealers step in and this is how they make a living.Id advise u to go to mart and look at all prices and whos around ring and yes there does be some poor prices.Dealers use these prices to try and get urs the same money.
hello lads any one have a mat in the palour pit floor any feedback suggestions
thanks lads
You should have put back on him that he could afford to pay 200 for your superior quality calves so after that. 😁
(A bit early in year for demand to drop like that.)🙄
