Hi all, I am look at buying a mid sized van something 2.0-2.2, 2014-2017. For general light use and some towing. What van would people recommend? Thanks.
Unfortunately I've learned the hard way about this. Belt snapped at 104k even though it had been brought to a Ford dealer for inspection.
Do you think running a rubberbelt through oil is a good idea .
What are furling injectors if you don't mind me asking, haven't come across them .
True Thankfully. Always worth pointing it out though.
Yeah but 99% of them don’t have that engine
2.0bitdi transporters have a pretty poor rep.
...lovely van to drive to, theres a reason why theyre expensive, theyre solid out....
I've had a similar experience with Caddys except I suppose from the duel mass flywheel issues.
I did give serious consideration to the Transporter however it quickly waned when I realised I the difference in cost. Anything about the same year was around 6/7k extra and that's being conservative.
For ref, I paid 13k plus vat for 19 custom, you'll do well to find a 19 Transporter for under 20k plus vat.
Of course that's not saying that they're not a good van, just that they're a dear van
Always bought Caddys, rock solid, so if I needed something bigger I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Transporter.
So 2015/2016 models wouldn't have it?
eco blue engines 1.5 and 2.0 diesel from 2017 on called the panther engine have the wet belt system.
Are the 2.0 kugas the same with a wet belt?
This is certainly true from my research before buying the van. That's why I double checked that it was done before buying it.
I think it is also fair to say that most brands have some issues.
Open Vivaro family suffered with head/injector corrosion issues amongst other things.
The best advice is to do some research on common issue and check if these issues have been checked on the van/car that suits your needs. If you can get one with a full service history. If I could afford a new van I would have bought one , that's still no guarantee that I wouldn't have issues but they would be covered under warranty. All 2nd vehicle's come with a risk. A well maintained van/car reduces issues.
Edit. I think it's also important to like the look and driving feel of the vehicle as well. There's no point in looking out the window at something that hurts your eyes everyday 😂
Ford have history with the old 1.8tdci engine but still went back to the wet belt ,madness.
Using the correct oil and changing it regularly is critical to them.
But ya it's some f*CK up if they shread the teeth on the belt though.
Unfortunately there are plenty in the garage getting new engines 2.0 diesel.
They have a wet timing belt that runs through the sump oil.
It needs to be checked or changed if it hasn't already been done.
some good youtube videos about the issue.
There is a lot of these vans on the road so that's a good sign.
I bought the Custom a few month's ago, 2019 Trend model. Haven't any issue to date, the only money I spent was for a service and set of 18" alloy's :).
As I say , I'm delighted with it, great space for what I need it for and it looks and drives well.
Interesting to hear, what year? Any issues with it?
I've drove a VW Caddy since 2002 and I have to say I loved them, but I needed something a bit bigger.
As I loved the VW I want to stay with them, but just couldn't justify the cost of them, and to add that if you wanted anything with a bit of spec, then it was 0000's again.
I ended up buying 2.0l Transit Custom trend, and I have to say that I'm delighted with it, great spec and very nice to drive.
They're a bit bigger that the Dispatch, Proace (which is the same van) type of van, but maybe not as big as a Transporter.
Any other recommendations here 3 seater if possible.
2016+ 2.0tdi caddy maxi. Might be a touch small for ya but they're a good van.
You cant go too far wrong with a T5 Transporter but your money won’t go as far as it would on the models you mentioned.
Yes correct, same size as dispatch, pro ace, transporter, transit custom etc
Mid sized being Transporter/Transit Custom size?
