Not a good look. I wonder did he go because this was going to come to light?

May well be so, depending on ones point of view.
There are certain rules there and the ruling parties can look for explanations, as could the opposition.
To NOT have a state broadcaster. very little the state or anyone else could do about it.
Anyone who might listen to American radio stations would realise the issues which could arise.
Balance doesn't depend on one's point of view. It depends on more than one view and that is often lacking in rte. Current affairs/news on rte radio and TV have really dropped in standards over the last 5 years which is disappointing. They used to be quite good at it.
Hmmm...I would suggest that ones point of view would colour your opinion as to whether an interview or discussion is balanced or not.
But we won't go there.
I would agree with you that current affairs programmes have dropped standards big time.
heading for redtop standards now
What's this Royal bit about?
I thought we left all that 100 years ago.
It's a franchise of the RTS in the UK. According the organizers it has been around since 1995, I don't get it myself, perhaps they think RTÉ should be run by the BBC... oh there is an idea 😂
Not over the top at all, in fact incredibly accurate.
That was an empty hall.... Who are the RTS ..? are they just another media "group" ... ???
Coogan still milking Tubridy for material 😂😂
I wouldn’t agree, but there you go.
I see Jim.Bartley.has retired from Fair City. He said he had taken an action against RTE. By the way he was talking he was successful .When Martina Fitzgera!d's contract was up she also took a case and it would appear she was also a winner
Look, I'm simply stating my view in the way I see it. They are VERY selective as to what stories to report. They seem to be very reluctant to report anything that wouldn't be palatable to the government. I have been around long enough and I can see through it. When I state this I have absolutely no political motivation to do so. I'm just calling it as I see it and as a public service broadcaster mostly funded by the taxpayer/public, I believe they actually should be impartial. It can clearly be seen regarding their behaviour towards the PAC that they know that they are in a position in which the government needs them more than they need the government. Again, when someone calls this out it is assumed that the poster or the person is politically motivated, I can assure you as far as I am concerned that is not the case.
Royal Television Society, yeah the screen was practically empty. Most of the types there were either TV producers and University Lectures, all siding with how wonderful RTÉ was, and it was a bit of a love in for Gay Bryne (which is fine) but very few real charges set against Moya D., strangely no one mentioned the Toy Show the Musical at the event. That was asked outside.
So RTE are now employing a continuity announcer with a speech impediment, the job requires you to speak and announce clearly, I understand they can’t discriminate anyone
While listening to Bryan Dobson on the news at one today he stumbled over some Gaza guys name multiple times but like a trooper kept going til he got it right (would have thought he would have the phonetic spelling in front of him) - totally irrelevant to the thread but I'm sure there is provision against discrimination for the job you are referencing, like not employing a multiple amputee from being a scaffolding erector
Well that's good isn't it
It was Benjamin Netanyahu he couldn’t pronounce, hardly a Gaza guy
Ah ok, was only half listening
That is going on years. I was at a job in Teagasc Grange in Meath about 15 years ago and when I went to reception the phone was ringing constantly. Lad at the desk wasn't bothered and spoke clearly where I had to go to meet my contact. Turns out he was tone deaf and couldn't hear the phone but could read lips perfectly. Equality got him the job as receptionist but surely common sense has to come into it.
By the way. Listen to RTE continuity presenters over the years and many of them had a district lisp. Particularly the males.
This is hilarious.
Is that you they are talking about in the Indo?
Ellen Coyne: Gay Byrne event felt like an ode to RTÉ – until Pat Kenny was forced to shut down stinging criticism | Independent.ie
Good on ye
What's with her Ronnie Corbett look?
It is a rather important society in the UK and its media and a lot of the big names and players regularly address meetings and seminars. As for the RTE version, it looks like they got the same shower who landed RTE in trouble to pretend that they are the great and the good of the irish media. The RTS it ain't.
Regards...jmcc
“The thing is I find the organisation is just a soap box for the government. It's very clear that the news on RTE is an exercise of pushing the government's agenda. Just cannot watch it anymore as I find it unbearable and any programming that they produce for TV is just... well s****.”
The above paragraph is your opinion, and that’s fair enough, but no matter what you say it’s not fact.
I am a strong critic of RTE myself but I do try to be objective.
I actually find dobbo hard to take on the news at 1. Not sure why I just find him disingenuous for some reason. I have visions of him poking his interviewee with a stick saying dance monkey dance.. just seems to be looking for something sensationalist to come out of fairly weak interviews and topics.
Any non paywall link? Would love to hear what statement was!
RTE News just had an article about RTE looking for an extra 9 million (I assume on top of everything else) from the government to give all the employees a pay rise. This works out as 3,600 euro a year including contractors or 5,000 if only employees get the increase.
I can't find that article on the rte news app. If it's true, it shows a complete lack of any understanding of the public opinion at this very moment. They must be living in a D4 bubble and it needs bursting.
That's an interesting read.

That's a brilliantly written article by Ellen Coyne. The last line hammered the whole thing home. "Some of us want a revolution, while others want a dinner party".
RTE will never look inward at the waste and just wants to continue to party at everyone's expense.
But it is fact, RTE do push the governments agenda whether you realise it or not. With respect to RTE news there are numerous regional stories that are of significant importance that do not get exposure. The type of stories that would negatively highlight the governments ideology. RTE News will produce reports crafted and illustrated in an effort to get a person to think in a certain way that would be compliant with the governments ideology. Its much more deeper than just say giving one particular minister air time or the last word with respect to another. Irrespective of how you or I may feel about it, it is fact.
