Is Ireland becoming a Woke Society? Are people too scared to say anything as it may offend…..
Are we too tolerant and easily lead?
I’m politically correct and fit the criteria for “woke” most people have.
I have a Masters in Engineering and a very nice job. I’ve very little time on my hands. So maybe be a bit more broad in your thinking.
My take on the word 'Woke' evokes an automatic allergic reaction in my brain, triggered by a movement that requires me to buy into their belief based system.
....don't call me him, call me she, and he is now not he but they, and they are now them, and you are me and I am him, and how dare you mispronounce my pronoun!
Thank God I'm now of an age where all this Woke nonsense doesn't affect my behaviour or my thoughts, it all seems so crazy in a "Fad" kind of way.
Wokeism like bagism is a crazy fashion, a social contagion, a cult or a trend that will fade away with time, the woke movement is just too crazy for my old brain, a feelings based ideology - A belief system devoid of any scientific fact or adherence to basic human biology.
That’s a lot of words to say “I haven’t a clue what Woke means”
Heterophobic?😆
Thanks, I suppose in the age of mass communications it makes sense to shorten politically correct to a four letter word where alignment with a cause is so easily switched on by One's peers.
At least fewer letters saves bandwidth :-)
Okayyy.i was kinda agreeing with you, but if you want to be a dick master engineer (also have one in maths). Then fine.
I've no idea what you're talking about. Use fewer words.
The reality is the world is constantly progressing to a more liberal outlook, so unfortunately you will just fall more and more out of step with the majority of the population.
How was I being a dick? I was trying to bust the stereotype for “woke” people so we could be aligned.
I prefer "politically correct" It was honed in the English language and has not changed in meaning since it's inception.
Woke has the advantage of fewer words, but if you look at its use, it is still a misunderstood verb.
I get the impression it's employment is simply an expression of contempt for a lot of its users, regardless of the circumstances calling for the response?
No it’s a lot more militant than politically correct, politically correct example might be using terms like chairperson, that’s perfectly fine
Thanks, but I have seen transgender decried as woke. Is this not the same as using "chairperson"?
The only militance seems to come from people using the term as a kind of insult as far as I can see.
Looking at the current definition suggests it's basically an awareness of minorities. Now the people using it pretty liberally seem far from those you would expect to have an awareness and tolerance for others.
The most popular users I have observed are those contributing in the UK Daily Mail which say's everything about their judgement and values.
Woke is the new snowflake.
I don't know. People could define "snowflake" at least.
Pain in the hole really.
Lads trying to get a ride being woke/snowflake/ with it...no other way for them.
Watch out for them goons. They're worse than normal males/females.
What are you on about?
Woke. Most of the lads don't care.
Closer to women and a fake personality.
Based on what?
Interesting question. Not really.
Most of these lads can't get their rocks off by themselves let alone with a woman/man.
I find anyone denigration of beliefs disgusting, but if someone can discuss them, I'll argue and hate their beliefs, but I'll never try to cancel them.
I'll flesh out any of the above if you wish.
I still haven't a clue what you're on about.
Can't help you so.
Best I can make out is more hysterics about woke.
Maybe let's just leave it there.
Your best isn't very good.
Something better than this would be good.
You think people are pretending to be socially progressive to get the ride? Is that it?
Hold on there a second. I never said that!
Are you suggesting something here?
That's actually an awful comment. I'd like you to spell out to me what you mean. This feels like a trap.
There a typo, by “rise” I meant “ride”
which this line seemed to imply: “Most of these lads can't get their rocks off by themselves let alone with a woman/man. “
Is this you?
I genuinely have no idea what you're trying to say, and it seems I'm not the only one.
No question there ,but I get your drift.
Ill stick by that. Cowardly and pathetic some posters are. Hitch on to any bandwagon going. If they had some testicular fortitude they might get laid.
While I do agree with a bit said on this thread, re sexism(both ways), intolerance in general, I will not have my opinions rubbished. I have explained myself, can you?
I've mentioned it so many times, we need to be like the fonz!
What do you want from me? More than likely I've explained it badly, but I'll try my best if you ask(might not agree with you though).
Bit personal.
