Have today booked "off" which is a good thing as I could not sleep last night. Going to get up and have an excellent breakfast and go for a walk first. Then do all the crap I need to get done.

How do some people make it through life when they seem so patently incapable of thinking and breathing at the same time? Should have called in sick today...
I know coffee is a curse for me. Or at least certain blends. Definitely kills my sleep. But sometimes it's the only thing that'll get the motor going.
Yesterday was a full day's travelling for me, from 26 degrees and sunny Greece to what felt like 6 degrees and rainy Cork.

The next field trip is a weekend on a research vessel in Cork harbour in November ....

The news and the rain is pissing me off.
I've stopped watching the news for that very reason. It's getting to a point where it's just too depressing. I'm at the point where I'm actively seeking out cute animal videos, ideally cats, foxes and the like. I'm even beginning to like raccoons and skunks...

Ugh, some things just won't go away! I haven't seen any of that since the late 1990s, when the concept premiered back in Germany. I don't think I've ever recovered from the loss of grey matter caused by those first few episodes. Reality TV as a whole can just go away as far as I'm concerned!
phew.. this morning started out in a panic. HR rang for the new job and they were insisting on a reference from current. It’s just their policy ig, but I’m in a panic anyway cos I haven’t mentioned to the boss I’m planning to maybe head on..!
luckily they took the former sous chef as he worked with me and in the place so phew 😎

They are lovely and lethal I'd say.
We used to have tom cats when I was a kid, and they didn't get neutered then, so they'd disappear for months and years and come back sitting on the window sil and look just like those. 🤣 huge and fluffy and mad looking. They'd get fed and disappear for further adventures. I was in awe and terrified of them at the same time. Must have been very young.
Yeah but how are the cats??
