After months of being on Audio Only, the 2rn test pattern is visible again on Channel 51.
Sadly it would probably be in unwatchable lowest possible resolution.
Where did you get this figure from? and I assume the 10% in Executive pay cuts is happening as part of Strategy 2024?
They could timeshare with Challenge
06:00 - 18:00 Challenge
18:00 - 06:00 Sky Mix
Sky Arts at the Weekend!
Spotted it here for 2018 amount, seems a lot, you would think vast majority of content could be automated from other sources...

I would question this figure. But I doubt that RTÉ ever really questioned it, most of it possibly went towards live subtitling! But I can image RTÉ spending a fortune on nothing.
If we could get Virgin Media One on HD it would be great, they can do whatever the hell they like after that we Sky Mixes etc.
Hello
I'm looking to pick up a cheap saorview box from aliexpress. Which is the codec used with saorview? H264 or H265?
Thanks!
H.264
Thank you so much
What about virgin media one plus 1 on saorview with other plus 1 channels like you have RTE 1 plus 1 RTE 2 plus 1 ànd now TG4 plus 1
While I understand these +1 channels are a source of extra advertisement revenue, they are in my opinion a terrible waste of the limited available bandwidth on each mux. If they were all shut down, the freed up bandwidth could be used to make Virgin Media One HD and actually watchable on saorview, especially for sport. As for catch up, all the main channels have players available and they should be integrated similar to Freeview play. Pipe dream really as I can't see Virgin Media ever willfully paying extra to broadcast in HD on Saorview.
Agreed the +1 are a waste but Virgin will never pay for HD unless forced by the impotent regulators.
I think +1s are a great asset. Especially at prime 8-11pm times as most of the good/reasonable programmes clash around then.
My viewing of TG4 has definitely increased since they introduced +1.
I think that the regulator should insist that all broadcasters have at least one HD channel, two if their viewership justifiers - perhaps based on their advertising revenue.
The picture quality on Virgin Media is dreadful and unwatchable.
Virgin Media will put on another SD channel (VM5) before any HD, pure and solely business, it is up to the regulator, audience and whoever else. TG4 have come a long way in the past year.
As you mentioned TG4, have you tried out their player? Not only do you have TG4, TG4+1 (in better picture quality than Saorview), Cúla4 but also TG4+2. All can be watched live and all bar Cúla4 give the option to watch from the beginning of the current programme which is being aired. Puts the RTÉ player to shame.
I have indeed. Unfortunately my TV doesn't support cast so I watch it and the equally excellent All4/Channel 4 on my tablet.
One thing that isn't great with the TG4 Player is the ability to find past shows. I find I need to have the exact term and spelling when using search and sometimes the programme doesn't show up even then.
RTE Player looks good but impossible to watch anything 🙄.
They're paying for the bandwidth. VM are choosing to have numerous channels of shíte while keeping VM1 in sub-SD.
Is this as big an issue as it once was though? VM 1, 2 and 3 seem to be in HD quality via the player. I switch to that when they have sport on because as you say the picture quality via Saorview is rubbish. VM 4 still isn't on the player btw. Why, I don't know.
I'd argue that TG4's variety of programming also helps their +1 service, I think they should have gone with their +2 service.
But I'd prefer a mixed channel from both RTÉ and TG4, than the +1s.
Any word on Sky Mix?
Due to go live on the 18th ....... separate test transmissions for Ire and UK still present on satellite.
Freeview will be in SD apparently.
Sky Mix is due to replace Pick on Freeview, Freesat, VM and Sky. But there's currently no tests or confirmation of it launching on Saorview
Challenge epg showing 'TBA' for the foreseeable for anyone else?
Is this just a technical fault on Sky or from 2RN's side?
Yes missing EPG on Saorview.
EPG present on Satellite channel.
If Sky Mix HD and Sky Arts were to join Saorview.Another Mux would have to come online If Sky Mix was to be in HD. That could be problematic for Freeview viewers in the East and South of the border . Depending on the Mux channel
The Time is now correct
And Challenge's EPG data has been restored and for the next 7 days
Is the Saorview Channel still airing or have they dropped it just for text.
There's 2, LCN 29 has video on Connect and LCN 30 is just data of the EPG numbers
So another channel could be added letting go of the Saorview video stream?
