I always knew you needed a medical cert to enter the Paris Marathon but I hadn't realized the requirement was official and applied so widely to smaller events. I didn't need a medical cert to get a surfing lesson in Biarritz but I would think that would have similar risk to a parkrun.
Seems it's because of the "competitive" element of Parkrun, which they feel they can't get around unless they stop recording people's times, which they are not willing to do (understandably).
I managed one parkrun in France on a roadtrip to Lyon, the results had the finishers in random order presumably to emphasise it wasn't competitive.
That is addressed directly in the article. It wasn't adequate legalwise
Parkrun turns 19 today: https://blog.parkrun.com/uk/2023/09/29/19-years-of-parkrun/
Any update on the SETU Arena Parkrun?
Just found out the French Parkruns are canceled! Was gonna do 1 of them on Saturday. Disappointed!
New parkrun starting up in Kerry next month, Fenit Greenway parkrun.
This will be Kerry's fifth 5K parkrun.
Answering my own question, as recently as yesterday the admin to their page answered a query saying they don't have a start date yet but to keep an eye on their Facebook page.

4th of November. Was down in Tralee this morning and over 200 people at that so plenty of people to go around both runs.
Definitely can, Tralee averages over 200...regularly 250 and sometimes gets up to 300 around Operation Transformation and things like that and it's too many really when it get very busy. I'm curious to see how the course goes in Fenit, it's not just and out and back. It's run out around 2K, turn and come back around 700m, then turn and go back out again before turning again and going back to the start/finish. Great to have another one in the county though, in my own case it's 3 of them within a 20-25min drive.
Nick Griggs was fastest at Parkrun today, running 14:05 @ Belfast Victoria. Finn Diver was 7th in 15:17 at the same parkrun. 😮
Due to flooding & flood damage, Tramore Valley park is the only show in town in Cork city tomorrow as both Glen River & Ballincollig are cancelled.
Orange rain warning in place until 8am tomorrow in Dublin & Wicklow. I would be keeping an eye on Facebook/twitter pages for parkruns within those counties if you are planning on attending parkrun tomorrow.
Mallow Castle is also cancelled
Sport Ireland Campus off too and it's a XC course. I'd say many more cancellations in the pipeline.
I imagine all runs in counties on the south and east coasts are in question.
9 so far notified on https://www.parkrun.ie/cancellations/
Monaghan and Carlow towns are also noted
Edit: Meanwhile there's a meeting in Tuam next Tuesday night as they are looking to set up their own parkrun
Looks like we had a reasonably dry night last night so any that reported they were looking OK should still be OK this morning. Confirmed off are
Ballincollig parkrun: Weather
Carlow Town parkrun: Course flooded in places
Castletown parkrun: New run route required
Clonmel parkrun: Course flooded
Darndale parkrun: Weather
Glen River parkrun: Course unsafe or blocked
Mallow Castle parkrun: Flooding
Monaghan Town parkrun: Course unsafe or blocked
Sport Ireland Campus parkrun: Course flooded
Yes, it's a nice and flat 2-lapper. Friendly volunteers, mostly Italian runners but they did give the briefing in English too. Nice pastries and tea at the finish line too.
Thanks for that. Did you get there by public transport?
I was staying close to the Termini train station, so I jogged out and jogged back, about 3 miles each way. However, it's very close to the Bignami metro station. Just remember that they start at 9 over there!

Ill be in Stoke on Saturday morning. Anyone any recommendations for a good parkrun.
Go to www.parkrun.org.uk, go to events and search for Stoke (or wherever you're staying) and you'll be able to see your closest parkruns from there.
Just because of the name. "The Wammy Parkrun" 😁
I'm glad I'm not the only one who selects parkruns by the name. Piggly Wiggly parkrun and Scribbly Gums parkrun are on my current bucket list
Ive 3 parkruns to choose from this weekend and I’m being indecisive. Anyone want to push me in one direction? Tia!
marlay- big crowd, I know there are some hills but the course measured a little short for me which I find mentally easier :-)
poolbeg- very close to where I’ll be staying, but there’s a mean hill and fewer people.
st Anne’s: great other than the moderate hill twice
Marlay all the way, one big loop the main plus for me.
It's also definitely 5k, it's the trees and hairpin turns that deceive the GPS.
St Anne's. Fantastic parkrun, fantastic crew there, lovely run and a great coffee afterwards in Olives.
Yep, GPS not to be trusted!
would you say marlay is as fast a route as St Anne’s? Thanks so much for the input
