Is Ireland becoming a Woke Society? Are people too scared to say anything as it may offend…..
Are we too tolerant and easily lead?
Because some people are just out to be insulted and annoyed.
There probably is something wrong with being racist. If you have enough racists in a society, you get the discrimination. Racists grow into racists on a diet of racist jokes. They generally don't get there my reading Mein Kampf off the bat.
No. People need to stop pretending that they're not allowed to speak.
Be nice if you could have defined "woke".
I don't think you understand the definition of woke.
You picked things that everyone can agree with. Funny that. What about gender quotas? You are lying to yourself if you think majority of population agree with that.
Woke is excessive political correctness and the elevation of group identity to the point where common sense and individual identity are discarded.
phycology is the problem and it isnt really science but i take your point
By bundling everything you think is a problem into the catch all phrase wokism you confuse any potential for analysing the actual issues you lump together. Wokism is a rallying call to the right - it dumbs down the debate in an attempt to rally a populist ground swell.
This x 100
I'm nearly 50 and agree with you
When ya look closely its rarely people with actual gender ambiguity making all the noise it's usually a mob of straight people
There was a trans woman on Tommy tiernans show last year and she was amazing, she also said all this pronoun stuff confuses her and she stays clear 😂
Depends on your definition of "Ireland". The establishment - political class, media etc. - are definitely trying to turn the country into a wokerati paradise. To our detriment. I'm as much opposed to racism, homophobia etc. as any decent person. But we're now at a point where you can't, for example, have an open and honest discussion about issues that affect everyone - immigration, crime, certain types of health services - without being shouted down for even asking a legitimate question, never mind having a viewpoint opposed to the collective. Immigration is the perfect example. Don't dare ask why we're still actively inviting people in their thousands to come here when we can't provide accommodation for our own citizens cause that means YOU'RE A NAZI BAD PERSON NATIONAL PARTY VOTER.
It's only a matter of time before people start turning to extreme politics because they're not allowed to question the mainstream. That's how Brexit and Trump happened and is also why Sinn Fein are poised to take power. There are people on this site who keep trumpeting about how great it is that no one in Ireland apart from a few hundred cranks and nutters vote for the likes of the National Party and the Irish Freedom party or whoever. They're using this as the basis for claiming that there's no appetite here for right wing politics.
I disagree. I reckon there's a lot of discontented voters out there who badly want to see a common sense, moderate right wing party that is prepared to ask the awkward questions about immigration, crime etc. but isn't fronted by cartoon nutters like Justin Barrett. If such a party ever emerges I reckon it would garner quite a bit of support. In our PR system which is now so heavily dependent on coalitions and independent TDs such a party could be one of the kingmakers in putting together a Government. And you'd soon see FG and FF starting to jump on their coattails and toning down their enthusiasm for the woke agenda. Look at FF. They've gone from being the most conservative mainstream party in Ireland to fully embracing the woke agenda in a relatively short time period. If the wind starts blowing in the opposite direction they'd soon change tack.
It's all really simple, does not respecting a person's identity cause them harm ? Does respecting their identity cause you harm ?
I see now what I'm dealing with so I'll leave you to it.
I don't give a **** - how has his behaviour harmed anyone ?
Are you going to have a little tantrum - are your feeling hurt ?
Because its stupid, take Sam Smith for example who we can all see is a man but wants to be called them.
Its just attention seeking nonsense.
If you read the article, no one was been forced to use any such terms. The terms were an extension of the more general terms such as mother and breadfeeding. It described an extension to language rather than a change.
So even in the specific instance of the NHS health trust no one was expecting you to use those terms.
Interesting. What about those who don't want to be baby carriers and who don't wish to be identified as a baby carrier??? Or those who have the equipment but it doesn't work, or has expired?? The MADness is unreal.
Instead of having opinions at the risk of the perpetually offended being offended, we should instead have a silent society so we can focus on controlling everyones thoughts until we are a hive mind where everyone thinks alike. Ah yes. Sounds lovely doesn't it?
The formula, unify your base by picking on a scapegoat you can all agree on. So the tiny minority of trans-people are an obvious candidate to rally the troops against.
It works every time with the simple minded.
"Hey there are people being slaughtered in their thousands over there"
"Sorry but I don't share their religious beliefs. Beliefs they may at some point try to impose on me. So best to let them go."
I am in my mid 50s and am more than happy to refer to a person by whatever pronoun they choose for themselves.
It's just common decency and impacts me personally in absolutely no way.
Why does this stuff rile people up so much ?
I'm curious as to who's forcing you to say that. Cos no one's forcing me to say it.
Is this an actual thing, or is it three people on Twitter?
FFS -"Chest feeding" Ive heard it all now!!!
Birthing partner - fair enough as sometimes you really havent a clue what youre looking at and what "gender" it identifies as.
No I think it's the opposite.
I did not ask that did I. So let's rewind and repeat, have you been asked to use the term baby carrier ?
There is a politically motivated hysteria been created to bolster an ideologically bankrupt political faction who can't win on their policy platform.
Don't play along.
Well if you dealt with the NHS in Brighton you would certainly have to make sure you use the correct language.
There just a rockatot
When did you ever have to say baby carrier to anyone ?
All of the above have two sides.
The most racist people I have seen are Black, because Black v White is still Racist you know
The most Sexist people are Feminists, they are completely anti Male
It goes on and on
Nothing wrong with a bit of casual sexism, racism etc in the right company in the right setting for humourous purposes. Discrimination though is totally wrong.
Yep. All the RBB and Paul Murphy types waving their wee Palestinian flags...like turkeys voting for Christmas.
Pride parades? Free speech? Freedom of Religion?? In an "independent "Gaza/Palestine??
Better measure ourselves up for our Burkas. 'Cos we were too woke to draw any lines..
We’re in for some shock so when all those “doctors and engineers” we imported from the Middle East start organising into a defined political party.
I wonder what the pride parades are like in Gaza, anyway.
