Not my experience with a Nissan L30, the last 10% of charging slows down to under 2kw and lower as its heads to 100%
Probably means more that the likes of a hybrid can only charge at 3.7kw (530e for example), leaf at 6.6kw, many others at 7.4kw.
But you’re correct in saying that generally, the max a single dwelling here will supply is 32a (6.4kw) on single phase.
My voltage is a constant 230V it has never varied in the length I'm living here, the car draws 7.3Kw right up to 100% according to my Owl monitor, voltage is measured using one of those plug monitors I got in Lidl years ago. I normally only charge to 80%. My phev I had would taper off the charging current as it approached 100%
I do t actively monitor my V but I have noticed that my old Tesla charger have 7.4kw but my current Zappi only goes to 31a max.
It could very well be the sensitive nature of the Zappi and varying voltage.
My experience as it gets close to 100% is that the charging slows down with my Mustang Mach E.
Tends to slow down at 95% plus on Tesla too.
I have never noticed a slowdown on the ID.4 for the last 5% or so. But that's not to say it doesn't happen as I never looked too closely thinking it was still pulling around 7kw. Does it slowdown much?
It can depend on how it’s displayed by VW. The Tesla app displays and I’ve seen it drop to 4kw.
Balancing can happen now and then and it does not take much power but is important for battery life. It's not important it happens every day, and it's only near 100% so if it stops it's not the end of the world.
MY LR pulled 11kW all the way up to 99% for us over the summer before dropping during the rebalancing.
I never really pay too much attention to how much it is slowing down with my Mustang but it definitely does slow down as it gets close to 100%.
Meanwhile in Germany.
This is a wonderful article of the history of EV:
Not sure where to put it. Mod move it if you want.
CATL's Qilin battery being used in anger, 5C charging giving 10% to 80% in just 10 minutes.
Interesting that you mentioned the Taycan. I did a search for them this morning and I think there are 48 listed on done deal. That strikes me a lot of stock for a premium car. It will be interesting to see how their pricing holds and I'd expect to see ones coming off lease deals at year end which shoul add to the numbers.
You can't visit the toilet, release the progeny to the shop and herd them back to the car in that time as I usually do. What am I going to do!
Did you get Polaris? I've just bought one and I am extremely excited :) I also chose a utv sound bar for it. I should say, it is even better than I expected and comes with all the needed options. Does anyone use one?
We couldn't get one when we changed this year(2023) so just went for the diesel one, Which is very good, the electric one should be fantastic.
Are they starting to become available?
That's the specification (approx anyway). I see as low as 207V some nights as we draw 63A and there's a lot of farms around us. We can also see as high as 250V on a sunny day at 1pm as our solar is going full whack.
I have never seen the voltage below 240V in my house. I have a transformer on site that is just on my house, so that could be part of the reason.
But it does show the variation from one property to the next if you have seen 207V.
Yes and it's super annoying because as soon as the Tesla sees 207V it drops from 32A to 24A on the onboard charger. I have monitored everywhere and it's the incoming voltage at the meter that drops once my demand exceeds about 35-40A, before that the grid is around 215-225V at night.
Haven’t seen a story like this before, from the independent….could have been any car with decent autopilot/traffic assist
Could of been any car as you say, but the defendant was not just any driver.
Known to gardaí?
A mechanical engineer who works for a firm that develops devices for autonomous vehicles, according to RTE.
Interesting in that it sets a precedent.
No, it doesn't set a precedent. It was in the District Court.
Even if auto pilot was engaged people shouldn't be driving with their hands off the wheel.
Anyone driving with their hands off the wheel should be done for being careless. Auto pilot being engaged doesn't change the fact you should be attentive at all times while driving.
There's no doubt a good system will react faster than a person, my Golf AEB has hit the brakes quicker than me. It doesn't mean I get complacent driving down the M50.
I think there's a much higher burden on a dangerous driving conviction, the case was largely lost on the basis that the Garda couldn't demonstrate a clear and direct danger. Perhaps if they pursued a driving with due care and attention charge the case would of ended up differently.
Yes it doesnt make sense why they went that way. It was a guaranteed "driving without due care and attention". That's 2 penalty points and an 80 euro fine. I know because I got one for reversing into a taxi in blanchardstown carpark years ago - and it's not a conviction (obviously it is if you don't accept the points and go to court)
That's what I thought as well, it should have been brought as a careless driving at best. I'm glad the judge had more sense that the guards.
