Primary season is here and the road to Tuesday, November 5th, 2024 begins tonight with the first Republican primary debate in Milwaukee.
Donald Trump has decided not to partake so the participants in the debate will be;
As things stand, the Democrats do not plan on having any primary debates as Joe Biden is running for re-election.
When even Fox News are telling their viewers what a mess the Republican party is in, the Democrats have plenty of mileage left. Republicans control the House, there's nothing the Democrats are doing to hold things up, it's all on the Republicans.
I agree, at some point there's a tipping point but I think we're a bit away from that yet.
Republicans openly refuse offers for a power sharing agreement or a concession candidate. They refuse to offer any policy concessions for votes either. In effect the majority is not reaching across the aisle to the minority because they remain steadfast they must prove they can govern their own majority without assistance from an opposition party.
yeah he doesn't have the math today
He already lost 9 votes on the roll call.
20 reps vote against him, let's see what offers/threats he makes to those 20 to get in.
Do we still have the situation where one person can force a vote to remove the speaker or was that specific to McCarthy?
I don't think anyone has rescinded the rule.
It was Kevin McCarthy, who once confirmed as Speaker, brought the motion via rules package to the floor to have the rule instated.
Alternatively, 5 Republicans could see the light and let Jeffries enter as Speaker
The magic number is 217.
Do-over! They want a 2nd vote already.
Nevermind! He doesn’t want the embarrassment. Vote called off again until tomorrow

“Woah” who could have predicted the obvious right wing spoiler candidate would become more popular among right wing voters than left
Some hot mic during roll call, the 1st McCarthy voter, Brian Kilmeade responded with "dumbass!"
Republicans admit that Jordan's pressure campaign to shame or coerce lawmakers into supporting him backfired
And the GOP are reportedly thinking about throwing in the towel and trying to afford the Speaker Pro Tem more temporary powers (yikes, also, lacking in votes?)
Utterly out of control caucus. Doxxing their own spouses now???
He should be losing votes in tomorrow's vote if there's any sanity left.
‘Please sure can I lose more’
he indeed lost additional votes today after the Doxxing. Human decency isn’t entirely lost in the caucus yet. But he still wants a third vote to try and turn around the people whose wives he had accosted
After flipping her vote to a No a Republican congresswoman received death threats on Wednesday
Update, Jordan doesn't want a third vote after all. It's called off. No #3 Speaker Gym Jordan.

Republicans would rather vote to give additional powers to the speaker pro tem, which may be constitutionally fraught.
Now folks, before we judge - who amongst us *wouldn't* lunge at Gaetz if they got the chance?
I'm really concerned actually about the amount of physical force being used against members of their own caucus in closed door meetings. Like honestly they cannot govern themselves, they literally can't maintain the civility. They're in a deeply fucked situation. So is the country, because they're in the House Majority. In a way we're right now in the semblance of a partial coup by MAGA. And the longer they refuse to go knock on Hakeem Jeffries door and say "yeah we fucked up by entertaining these seditious sideshow **** for too long. Please help," the longer this is going to hurt everyone. American, Israeli, Ukrainian, European, global ramifications. Global pain. We're into the 3rd week of the 45 day Continuing Resolution that Republicans passed finally before kicking out their own Speaker for doing so. The US Government is still, basically, heading for a shutdown next month.
lol the man didn't even turn up at the primaries
Imagine giving him maximum contribution and he blows off the debates and campaigning and goes 'anyway, gonna go golf and eat steaks'
And putting Ketchup on them!
Republicans have backed down from repeated threats to impeach incoming Wisconsin supreme court judge who was 1) elected and 2) could tell that water was wet, and publicly said that water was wet - ie. that the state's districts were gerrymandered. Republicans were incensed that they didn't win the election so they wanted to impeach her before she even took office, feigning that her public commentary during the election campaign was an impeachable offense of official misconduct.
Cohen interviews the top Democracy Watch founder/activist lawyer.
Everyone seem to know it was legally DOA, and the voters didn't buy it - why would they, they just voted her in, based on her election campaign. This is bound to severely hurt Republicans in the state of Wisconsin in 2024 - and not just because of the inevitable outcome of the gerrymander case, but because of the immense blowback the threats to impeach her were.
Catastrophic numbers.
GOP doesn't have the votes to test giving emergency powers to the pro tem (and the pro tem threatened to resign)

Gym Jordan goes for a third vote.
Hey siri, what is schadenfreude?
Excellent stuff, will make sure am home in time to get the feet up and watch that 🤣
Not surprised that Gym doesn't know the meaning of the word "no"...
3rd vote about to start, will be a laugh if Jordan loses even more reps.
QUORUM CALL: 427 MEMBERS present
214 to win the speakership
seven absences.
Not gonna happen, Gym.
He is one of the most detestable characters in there. You love to see him lose, lose, lose.
In any other country this clown show would see a party dragged across the coals, the electorate ready to pounce. Only in America is this pantomime standard operating procedure, and cheered by a chronically undereducated and overstimulated electorate.
I was going to book a ticket to an Insane Clown Posse concert, this has saved me the money.
Haha he lost even more support - 25 votes against this time around.
What a mess.
Speaking of messes...Jim Jordan's district...
