Yep, all the Mk1 and mk1 facelifts had it as standard. Mk2 had it as an option. Been rolling a mk1 facelift for the last year and fancy myself a bit of an expert on them now 😂 Very comfortable place to be and takes corners surprisingly well.
Only about 80 mk1 and facelifts left with an NCT from what I can tell from the stats.
All series 1 and 2 C5's have it. It was only the later ones (C5 X7) had springs fitted.
All the C5 X7 2.0 Exclusives had hydropneumatic suspension and leather seats. That automatic one
is clean for the year. So comfortable, but I would never have an auto one. I've seen too many go wrong.
This one seems to have lasted all the same, they are getting rare.
I've already got 4 cars (only need a bit more than 1) so not in the market to buy and I will never own a diesel. But otherwise I'd be tempted 😁
There was an 2002 petrol C5 for sale in Dublin a few weeks back, 1.8 or 2.0, can’t quite remember. Was sorely tempted by a V6 in the UK recently. But likewise, too many cars already!

Here's one that I came upon earlier. The excellent BMW E39, of course with that sweet straight six petrol engine. Bit rough, but long NCT, 2003 so can be got on supercheap classic insurance (if second car). Asking €1,700. 2.2l though, so motor tax is bad. Use that to get a very good deal here

Pretty sure that has the same 6 speed AISIN slush box as we had in a C4 Grand Picasso, not the semi auto found in many Citroens of the era, a world apart in refinement and reliability. It would have been the same box that automatic Saab's were using in that era.
Yes, 6sp sequential autobox @alias no.9, meaning acceleration is barely slower. Consumption is higher than the manual, but not as much as you'd have expected from an older skool slush box

But yeah the E39 is the last of the old skool BMWs, great car. Even the early 520i with the 2l straight six with just 150BHP are a great drivers car. The E39 and the same era E46 3-series are probably the best BMWs of all time

Lads, what's the story? I know I haven't been around in this thread, but from what I remember a car must have a valid NCT to be mentioned in here? Did that change? I saw that at some point the max budget changed from €2k to €3k, that's fine as there was a shortage of cheap cars for a while.
Several of the last few cars don't have an NCT.
I think it is mad money. Very hard to get insurance on cars like these. Most insurance companies won't
quote you for old cars like that. Friend of mine has a mark 1 Clio with only something like 30,000 miles on
it and has done deals with first time drivers etc and they cancel the deal because they can't get insurance.
I think the only way to get insurance is if you have one already insured and it gets wrote off or you have
to scrap it. Mad to think we were crushing cars like this not too long ago.

Why would you want to crush it? Because of the number on the reg plate? Its a perfectly good car with low mileage and its worth a few quid in todays market, I sell cars like this all the time to first time drivers, had a few foreigners struggle with insurance but for the most part its no issue. My 18 year old sister was able to get quotes on multiple cars ranging from 1999 to 2007, so I don’t buy that insurance is hard to get on these cars.

At the time people saw no value in cars like this. They wanted better and newer for their kids etc learning

got refused first time policy on the Clio I mentioned above. They both went with newer Golfs and Citroen C4's in
the end. About 4 years ago, a dealer I used to work in sent a heap of trade ins to the crusher in Kilcock. There
was an MR2, a couple of 05 Focus, Peugeot 407's the odd people carrier. All stuff that had no value at the time
and was taking up space. Different times now.

Never have to bother going to a petrol station ever again, tank is always full when you wake up in the morning, cost to charge it from empty to full as low as €0.80 😁
