What people think is completely irrelevant. The numbers and results are self explanatory. But you are free to choose who you like/hate or not.
I don't think Stroll is an exceptional talent, but he is ok when he is in a good mood. However in the last couple of years he has been pretty bad, that is undeniable.
Yeah but you can use numbers and stats to back up your "love/hate" of a driver to. Stats at very low numbers are not terribly useful. Stroll got a poll once, but it would be a mistake to conclude he's got great potential in qualifying. Likewise comparing his podiums to Hulk is not great because the sample set is small and its seen as a bit of an anomaly that Hulk has never gotten a podium. The stats won't make Hulk look great in hindsight either.
I think, taking the totality of his experience, it's hard to make the case that he's anything but a poor enough driver and he's most likely only still in the sport because he's a special kind of pay driver.
Formula 1 is a stopwatch sport as David Coulthard would say and the stop watch says that Lance hasn't got out of Q1 in quite some time and has been plum last on a couple of occasions. I was listening to Aston Martin ambassador Jessica Hawkins on F1 Nation a couple of hours ago and post Quatar she rose the issue of Max handling the Singapore disappointment badly. Kind of ironic considering how Lance handled the qualifying disappointment.
Lance can be a decent driver when he wants to be but it's the lack of consistency that kills him. It's seems to be down to what side of the bed he got out of that morning.
Speaking of Stroll...
You'd assume it's either how he acted in interviews or the fact he was driving while passed out. Be interesting to see the action taken if it's the latter. I'd suspect they're unhappy with Stroll making the FIA look bad by saying the things he said.
Bad weekend in total for Stroll.
I do feel some sympathy for him, at the same time F1 doesn't really reward average performances. He is miles and miles behind Alonso.

Haven't seen Jolyon Palmer mentioned elsewhere. I've found him to be quite good on the Channel 4 commentary. Certainly a massive step up from Billy Monger, who used to do some of the races.
He does work for F1 now, he has a video up after each race, I find him super insighful.
Yeah, I've noticed a few times that he seems really on-the-ball in commentary. Often picks up on things the others don't.
Bernie back in the news - pleaded guilty to fraud after failing to declare some £400m trust in Singapore. Presumably he's not going to see the inside of a prison though. 92 years of age and still going.

I had to Google William Storey, ah... now I remember that lad and Rich Energy. Do they actually make/sell drinks? Never heard of that brand name outside of the farce involvement with F1.
Yeah they sold some drinks. You could buy it online and it was in a casino near me as a vodka mixer. I don't think it was ever a serious drink selling business. The product was an inconvenient part of getting Storey to sports teams he could sponsor. Maybe the plan was a Ponzi scheme or maybe he just loves publicity. Hard to know.
There are rumours swirling on Reddit (a very large pinch of salt now) that Perez will announce his retirement at the Mexican GP.
Saw that alright, can't imagine it's true at all.
On a different note, Spa confirmed for the 2025 season (another 1 year extension).

Checo retiring would save him the embarrassment of getting sacked by RB and not having a drive for 2024 but don't see him retiring yet. He just doesn't seem to be able to turn his form around, really needs to have a good end to the season and finish 2nd in the championship

i just cant get my head around what has gone wrong for him....he started the season off well, seemed very comfortable with the car, and then just fell off a cliff! strange.
Yeah, like whatever about losing the car and ending up I the gravel thats just bad driving but the desperate lunges like Japan are a bit off the wall and seemed very unnecessary. That car should be more than capable of finishing 4th or 5th in any race in anyones hands, look at merc all season, all they need to do is stay in a race and the default is 4th or 5th.
Never mind 4th or 5th it should be more than capable of finishing 2nd or 3rd in a good drivers hands most times and even 1st the very rare time that Max does not.
It genuinely seems like he just can't handle how sharp the front end of the car is. There was a quote from Albon where he talked about his time at RB, he basically said Max could drive a borderline unstable car like a bus due to his style (which has just gotten better and better).
Checo like the opposite style to Max, and the RB has evolved towards being front focused, so unfortunately Checo just has zero confidence in the car.

Schumacher was the same. Wanted the car on the nose and was able to live with what the rear did.
Checos lunge on Albon in Singapore and especially Kmag in Japan were crazy decisions to make. He doesn't even seem to be able to get the pace out of car when he's coming through the field. He'll spend 5 or 6 laps battling to pass a Haas,Williams, alfa etc. Max will drive the wheels off any car you give him but Checo seems like he needs the car suited to him
Max really reminds me of Schumacher and Senna in that regard. Schumacher could do crazy things with the front of his Ferrari and somehow still rotated the car at the apex and had monster exits. His old onboards were amazing to watch.
