Didn't someone question the idea of civilians living in areas Under bombardment recently....
Avdiivka
Thank god that attack failed. Russia really went all out there and it was a disaster. I was fearing it could be another soledar but I guess Ukraine can't be caught off guard here.
Short vid sums up Russia's massive assault yesterday.
It seems they lost 100s of men. Overwhelmed some Ukrainian positions due to the sheer volume of soldiers (similar to Soledar) where the Ukrainians had to fall back in places. Overall though it looks like another colossal waste of soldiers once again.
Further update, a Russian cargo ship was anchored in the area from Friday evening till Sunday evening
About time they got moving on this
Well done Belgium. Hopefully more countries follow their example soon. I doubt there is much in the way of Russia assets to freeze in Ireland but if there are any of note they should be frozen and dealth with likewise IMHO.
And all those PTSD cases will return home to Russia ... to a country that legalised domestic abuse. What could possibly go wrong?
Same in English. The Finnish government managed to hold a long press conference without saying the word "Russia" once. Of course it's just speculation, but it could be that this Russian tanker damaged the pipeline with its anchor. That doesn't necessarily explain how a data cable was damaged as well, since it wasn't in the same location.
But they not saying how far away the data cable was, the Russian ship was there from Friday evening till Sunday evening
And this is very busy route for Russian ships, easy for them to drop anchor and trawl for the line
Finnish government or state tv YLE would not mention Russia
Finnish media like HS or Iltalehti can be a little bit more free what they say and what most people here really think
Every single Finn i have talked too are 100 percent convinced its Russia, and kind of expected it
Murderous traitors.
The SBU named two local men now living in Russia, saying they were suspected of giving information that led to a missile attack on the village of Groza in the Kharkiv region, one of the deadliest strikes of the war.
Jesus. All in a single line like that. Seems like this old image is apt again:
Hopefully confirmed true. Pretty bad few days for the invaders in terms of equipment losses. Hard to see how they can sustain that long term.
Probably be worse for Ukraine. All the civilians, kids etc. who will be traumatised as the fighting is in their country plus with Ukrainian service personnel. It's **** all round sadly.
Yeah, the pipeline damage happened in the Finnish Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), and the data cable (where it was damaged) in the Estonian EEZ. But we can't tell from that how far from each other the two locations are.
It's a pretty good guess both were done intentionally by Russia.
Definetly
But they are so stupid it doesn't actually affect much, gas will still be available for both countries, its more a show than anything else
Nobody is running out, we are not going to be cold and freezing like the hilarious Russian adds last year
All war aside, I'd say that all Russian's doing their compulsory military service suffer from PTSD after dedovschina ( hazing of new recruits. but in Russia often leading to injury's and even suicide)
An interesting graphic in one of the replies to that tweet, showing the total black sea fleets and losses so far (Pavel Derzhavin TBC)
And another interesting one which gave me a good chuckle.
Russia doesn't get their seat on human rights council back. They blame the Americans for this.
"The main phobia of our American colleagues today is electing Russia to the human rights council"
Russia gets 83 votes, though. What a joke - 83 countries voted for Russia.
I lived with an Estonian who did his military service back when Estonia was still part of the Soviet Union.
When I asked him about it he wouldn't talk about it but the look in his eyes told me all I needed to know.
The poor guy obviously saw some terrible things and was still traumatized by it many years later.
Videos starting to come through of the Russian losses yesterday and this is not even the hotspot of Avdiivka
Depends who's responsible for the attack. Very little talk about Nordstream after it emerged who the likely culprits were
This needs to be done far more, good to see.
The Ukrainians are so in sync with what the Russians are doing or are going to do. Even the "surprise" attacks when the attention was on Israel didn't work.
A good friend of mine when I was in Russia ( and we are still friends. But unlike some other Russian friends, he passionately hates Putin) He was telling me that when he did his military service he had a university degree, and so automatically had the rank of Major. So he escaped the Davoschina. But then he faced the problem of his two sons. The eldest one was a doctor, and got to Germany early on, but the youngest one, who was in Uni studying for his degree is his main problem now. He was exempt while he was studying, but that's no longer the case once he got the degree, and Putin has introduced new laws closing off most of the escape routes. My friend wanted him to leave a year ago when it was relatively easy, but the son wanted to get his degree first. So now, he has his work cut out for him, trying to protect his son.
They might have made definite contact with extraterrestrials, or discovered a new miracle source of green energy, or any amount or other spectacular happenings, but I guarantee you, The Ukrainians are so welded to what the Russians are doing, nothing is going to distract them. Nothing.
Thats 83 country's that Putin has his hooks in, and they will need to viewed in that light from now on.
42 tanks and 990 ruzzians!!!!
I'm so happy Ukraine were able to repel what was an enormous assault which hasn't been the norm lately. They weren't caught off guard which must give them good confidence.
You'd have to wonder how much armour they still have left. The losses in under 2 years have been insanely high.
I'd also wonder if that attack was less about taking advantage of the world being distracted by Isreal, and more about a possible hissyfit from Putin, demanding some kind of progress "NOW! TODAY!"
So, what's left of his command staff put together a rushed plan to take Adiivka by overwhelming force and then execute. But of course they forget that the AFU have been defending that position since even 2014 with better motivated and better trained troops. Thus, disaster for Putin's forces.
