Is there any reason left not to go smart meter?

New day/night compatible smart meters are almost here. Day/night tariffs will now be possible on them, but the attractive ones are all but gone.

I'm about to come off the hallowed ground of the Energia D/N 7.9c tariff and as much as it pains me, I think I might be best to request a smart meter now.

You've not had a seamless migration tbf. It's also sadly my experience virtually every time I switch providers and why I only do it when there's something really advantageous in it for me. A few quid here/there isn't worth it in terms of my time/energy/stress talking to some muppet on the phone telling me one thing, only to find out that the complete opposite is true/happened.

I don't think you can move to a D/N meter on a 24 hour plan, regardless of whether you want a smart meter or not.

Happy to be proved wrong but this was my experience with SSE and ESB Networks in the summer.

This is only of benefit to you if you have a day/night plan with your provider. They won't give you a D/N meter (smart or not) without the appropriate plan.

If that's the case, then my switchover meter readings will go by the date that Pinergy pulled their finger out and switched the supply which was 2 days ago.

The new DN smart meter is a drop in replacement for the standard DN meter. It will act identical to your current DN meter

You can't. You can only get this day night smart meter on MCC02. So you'd have to apply to networks via your supply company to change. The RM108 D/N smart meters don't offer MCC01 ability, meaning you have to be on MCC02 or a smart meter MCC to have one

So I got my letter for smart meter so I guess it will arrive soon. They have already done the houses in my area but I am one of the few on day/night.

Moved from Energia and ended up with the following rates from ESB which seemed to be the best around

Night 17. 658 c

Day 35.752c

Standing: 327.7

FiT: 22.8c

Like a few in here my great Energia EV plan has expired so on the hunt for a replacement. Got the letter that the d/n meter will be replaced in the future so starting to look at the smart plans. Had hoped to hold off for a few more weeks but this weather is shocking so the pv production is well down for the last couple of days and the importing has started.

Luckily we are still in credit as the deemed export has meant the last 4 bi-monthly bills have all resulted in a small credit each time.

Thinking of sticking with Energia and the Smart EV Plan as the 4 hour night rate will see the batteries charged and most of the driving should be covered.

Don't see much else out there at the minute.

The energia plan with 4 hours of 8c is decent, but do your sums and compare it to the 3 hours of 5c of pinergy. That rate is so low (plus the €100 welcome credit) that even if the 3 hours are nowhere near enough for you and you might have to buy a substantial number of peak units, it might still work out cheaper

If you have a decent size battery, then I agree they are the only two decent smart plans. Working out absolutely perfectly for my setup and usage. I'll have a negative electricity bill over the next 2 years including all my house use, 2 EVs, all my hot water and some electric heating

Its not a terrible rate though at 20c. A few others are at 18c for FiT. I wouldn't rule out Flogas just because of that. Lots of other variables to consider.
