Time to start a dedicated thread for this one, I think. Who's in?
Transfer system has been announced so all is not lost for anyone who missed out on the lottery.
Focusing on Berlin myself this year but might still do DCM in some capacity.
What a cool write up, I think she's my new hero. She seems to be so confident in what works well for her, even if its against the general consensus.
Although she can keep the 50km a week on the treadmill!
That's a lovely article and she seems like a breathe of fresh air.
There was a nice article with some quotes in the irish times:
https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/athletics/2023/09/29/aoife-cleary-proves-a-running-breath-of-fresh-air-after-half-marathon-success/
She seems like a lovely person, I really liked this quote, particularly the last line:
I doubt it, they arent banned
I'd say the DCM organisers are annoyed that there seems to be so much trading of marathon spots this year. Maybe it's always been like this but I've really noticed it this year, that said I think I was offered about 10 spots for last year's race! But I wonder are the organisers annoyed with themselves that they didn't keep the transfer window open longer to charge the admin fees on entry transfers. It would be in their best interest though to let those with bibs - whether it's there own or not - to take part. Approx 15k out of 25k took part last year - if it's the same again this year it might affect sponsorship etc.
Was anything said about the fact the the lady who won the half marathon was wearing a big pair of headphones?
(not knocking her btw - she ran a great time)
Girl is question has appealed but no word yet. They seem to randomly finger wag on twitter of people tag them in a post advertising a number sale.
They would fillet the entries if they wanted based on the Facebook horse trading.
The woman emailed back and they confirmed she was banned. She had to appeal. I left the Facebook group then as all it had was people asking questions that are in the FAQs, people selling entries or absolutely idiotic questions.
Did anything come of this in the end?
It's kind of weird that I had to check that checkbox again despite paying for the photo package already?
I didn't change anything else either but it had set me as running for a club and wanted me to enter my Athletics Ireland number. I just set it back to "No Club" and then it saved fine.
Basically just review the form and whatever is red you'll need to fix.
Mine saved no issue. Maybe try again on a different device or at a different time ?
In yesterday's email from Dublin Marathon it mentioned about ticking a box for getting finishers photos. Has this worked for anyone? I've logged in, ticked the box but it won't save. The error message is "Validation failed for some of the fields. Please review field values." I've not changed anything else.
It's madness, alright, to allow signing up 363 days in advance and then have the crappiest transfer system...
Email about dates for next year for entering. We’ve not even started taper madness yet
Its not injury. They signed up last year as they were in town and there was a great buzz, but come June and reality bites
Facebook is the exact same. They can't all be injured
That's the only kind of post I see on the Strava DCM 2023 group: buy my number cos I can't run...
Hi S, I'm on the look out for an entry. Is this still available?
Absolutely
Anyone not having ICE details on their bib is an idiot tbf
It happened last year. One guy was wearing his sisters number as she hadn't trained for DCM and he collapsed.
The transfer should be available until September 30th
This is why the organisers need to extend the transfer window a lot more, to at least end Sept/or to 2nd week Oct.
There's hardly that much admin involved, is there? I did a race entry transfer for Trim 10 miler earlier this year, about a week or so before the race - it was fairly straightforward to do from both ends (transferor and tranferee). The only thing was the tshirt was in the size I ordered but that's not a big deal, the person was made aware of it.
Surely the checking on entries for the Half Marathon last weekend is an awful lot of work - analysing results, trawling through photos to match bib numbers to profile of the entrant.
I must say in that Facebook group there's a lot of trading of race entries for both the half and full. I've been tempted to leave the group cos it's annoying. I'd imagine the race organisers are well aware that's there been a lot of swapping - they probably feel there could be a risk where someone has a mishap or becomes unwell while wearing someone else's bib number and not filled out their own ICE details - that would be quite a serious issue and puts the participant at medical risk. Not to sound so dramatic but people have died while taking part in the marathon, imagine if someone took a turn, weren't the person on the bib and had no ICE details supplied.
Yes the Dublin Marathon organisers are quite within their rights to cancel a race entry for any race under their control if that person has been found to have sold their number in another race.
From the Dublin Marathon rules & regulations...............The sale, swapping or bartering of Marathon Race Entries or Marathon Race Numbers is strictly forbidden.
If you attempt to sell, swap or barter your Marathon Race Entries or Marathon race number, you may be banned from future Dublin Marathon and/or Race Series events
It's like Moore Street the amount of haggling going on.
You only need to go onto that group Facebook page to realize what you are dealing with.
Doesn't look real
Is that genuine, I cant really see someone revealing their name, a photo and a message like that to the public.
Is it maybe a scare tactic
Sure she could just run with someone else's number. There's loads of them available 😁😁😁😁😁
I'd agree with that. Given the adoption of a proper registration facility in eventmaster there should be a flexibility in place up to the week of the race.
The only cost I can see is replacing chips & postage for events where they are sent out early(half marathon), people could pay this fee easily where needed via eventmaster transfer process to ensure no glut of admin work on race morning.
For expo registration events like DCM there is no chip waste as it's all done 48hrs out.
