Free Watch or Buds with Three preorder depending on model.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,675 ✭✭✭wassie

Three is better value than Google. If buying outright (via prepaid) then costs are

    P8: €709 inc Buds

    P8Pro: €1039 watch

Edit: looks like you can order a prepaid sim but pay later. Only available in black with Three.

Assume Pixels are not network locked - anyone know if the P7s or P6s were?

With the big price jump, it reduces the incentive prices on the P7 & P7Pro to drop further at the moment. Be interesting to see how there sales go.

Vodafone not stocking P8 or P8Pro at the moment also.

7 years of OS upgrades? Kind of of annoying, Android 14 will probably be the last OS upgrade I get for my 6 Pro. That's after them claiming 5 years of updates pre launch before rowing back on that and saying it's 3 years of OS upgrades and a further 2 of security updates.

What makes the 8 a midrange spec? For those who like small phones, it's as close to flagship as you get. The prices are still astronomical though.

What I don't get with Google, is all of these photo features come with Google One even if you don't have a Pixel, so I don't even know how much of a selling point they are.

Tensor 3 is equivalent to a Snapdragon Gen 1, S23 is a small phone too and can be bought on adverts for a lot less.

Is it using the same modem as the 7 series? Wonder if the battery life is any better

7 years of OS and security updates is great though

    Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

If EU was getting stuck with Exynos Samsung devices, it would make the Pixel much more appealing.

I've never personally had a phone more than a year, I do wonder how many people would see out that 7 years.

As much as I liked the HTC 10, I couldn't imagine still using it today.

Rumour is only the S24 Ultra will have the Snapdragon in Europe, S24 and S24+ are supposedly going back to Exynos

Do you still need a Google One paid subscription to get all the photo features? Also processing is done in the cloud, whereas the Pixel 7 does it locally onboard, meaning its faster.

This is the same with the Google Translate feature. We tested this with the Pixel 6 vs Samsung S23 last year in France and P6 was much quicker and more accurate which is important when having a conversation.

Is it a selling point? Probably all depends on your own needs. I love the AI enhancements for photos and have no intention of subscribing to Google One as I back up all my photos to Onedrive.

Yeah, I also back up to OneDrive. I do pay €30/year for Google Storage, which gives me all stuff like photo editing, VPN, darkweb scanner etc etc. It's not worth buying a phone for a lot of these features when you can get them for a fairly small fee.

I do realise that the on-device stuff can make a difference, but in my last few years using Pixels, I've never actually benefitted from the likes of on-device translation, as much as I like the idea of it.

Pretty cool they are offering the freebies here this year.

7 years of updates is great too. (Have a Pixel 3aXL for 4 and a half years at the minute)

For me personally, going to wait to see what the modem is like (and Thermals).

The head transplanting feature 'Best Take' in photos is definitely creepy.

Wife was thinking about a Pixel watch anyway, so went ahead and ordered the pro.

I don't like the design and I find their Material UI a bit annoying at times. They seem a bit obsessed with pastel colours too.

Any trade in deals for Ireland?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,282 ✭✭✭TheRona

You're better off just selling yourself. I've never had any problems.

This is seriously annoying. Have a flawless Pixel 6 and usually upgrade every 2 years. UK shop(Which for some reason is the mailing list i'm on) have a very easy trade in system. £200 quote for the P6.

Would order a pro now with that in the deal.

Anyone ever order or is that possible from the UK site?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,675 ✭✭✭wassie

Definitely possible but obviously will only deliver to UK.

I was all set to swap my Pixel6A to an iPhone 15 Pro Max at €850 on contract + €200 extra on my bill over two years but it's now out of stock.

Next was a iPhone 15 Pro at €650 and the extra €200 on my bill but now I'm thinking Pixel 8 and Buds Pro for the same money 🤔 only thing I'm worried about is that the fingerprint scanner would give me hassle like the 6A.

Did anyone get any word from Vodafone or Virgin Media Bill pay pricing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 197 ✭✭bawnBeag

    I can't decide if I want the 8 pro over the 8

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 951 ✭✭✭1jcdub

I messaged them. They just said to keep an eye on their website. Vodafone UK have pre order on their website!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 70 ✭✭MarsyB

Only these retailers have the watch/buds promotion

    Harvey Norman

    Three

    Virgin Media

    Vodafone Ireland

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 70 ✭✭MarsyB

I reckon if you ever see yourself getting the watch the pro is the way to go seeing as its 400 euro off, I wouldnt have much use for the buds. You can also could resell it on adverts for like 300 euro effectively bringing you down to pixel 8 pricing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 197 ✭✭bawnBeag

Agreed. Just not sure on the size of the pro. Is it too big? 7 pro is the same size, anyone got that and can comment on the size. I'm coming from a p5

I'm pretty sure the Pixel watch was a very tough sell on Adverts last year.
