Crude protein level is irrelevant when silage is buffer fed. its allowed under the rules grass was very low in protein for a lot of this year. My bad on the dates . I was sure it was end of August but my point remains the same higher protein was needed. and never buy a ration or nut wit a high oil levels it will give you a higher ufl but shocking digestive problems with your cows
All the more reason not to trust them
Seen some crops in France in August and even back then they were very impressive, see more suckler farms growing maize and it’s grown after a crop of green for early silage and spread a lot of fym on the land and ploughed down after spreading and so straight away.
Ya they are either fidling or massive expenses or maybe paying wages to family members or if there old paying a nice chunk into a private pension or are they in a company
One milking 100 cows another milking 80 both established wouldnt have spent any big money in the last ten years both paying under 5k each year religiously obviously serious fiddling go on there and that wouldn’t be for me but there has to be a middle ground between that and doing everything by the book so to speak.
If they paying pittance are they making pittance or plenty capital allowances??
My accountant is the same regarding the car
A maximum crude protein content of 15% in concentrate feed for grazing livestock must not be exceeded between April 15th and September 30th 2023. This information must be included in feed concentrate records farmers submit annually.
I trust my supplier to supply good ingredients not like some others I could mention. My suppliers are specialist feed merchants who supply alot of feed to piggeries. The pig boys are going to know straight away if they get a bad load.
I have the same problem. My accountant is too safe. She only knows the word pension. I paid a quarter of my wife's new car last year. No way allowed against the farm as 100 percent the jeep is put against the farm. In fairness I use the car for any longer journey. This October is her last chance.
It's all there on the dockets in store there's a paper trail for everything the percentage of the ingredients is on their computer systems click of a mouse but most of them don't care enough to find it
This is true whelan 👍
Any recommendations for a competent farm accountant in the munster region? Currently have an independent accountant doing accounts and when you talk to other farmers locally they’re paying absolutely pittance in tax every year I know that’s going to throw up serious issues if they were every audited but I’m sure there is a middle ground.
thanks
I used to ask about ingredients in different rations/nuts but most young lads in merchants just give you a blank look.
I don't know of any around this area where there's a knowledgable agent. Vast majority seem to be salesmen/storemen at best.
Most lads don't even ask price, they're hardly going to ask ufl
I’m looking for something of breeding age. They’re only interested in selling to purebred herds here.
I need something to limit my exposure to the breeders here. They can’t/won’t keep breeding and producing in-calf heifers for €1000…also there’s an exodus out of dairy that’s frightening. In 3yrs, if the exodus keeps going as it is, France will be short of milk.
If you come across a well bred bull of breeding age please let me know.
Agreed mj not the Same kick this year in spite of the weather
Leave straight away tell them you want your ingredients in full in percentage the ufl the me and everything thing else and the ask them to get the sample bag of the batch of meal your feeding independently tested .. cos for certain they are taking you for a ride
Why for dero people it's only until end Aug for Lower protein and also if feeding silage you're exempt
Maize, barley, sugar beet pulp, distillers, soya bean meal are the main ingredients in mine. They would have gone cheaper if I swapped beet pulp for hulls but that would be lower energy
Yes we have some Brown Swiss but dont have any bulls to sell at the moment.
Would a calf interest you next Spring. We are breeding all to polled bulls now.
I’m in the market for a Brune breeding bull. Did you mention that you run a herd of them?
??
Wtf. It’s surely obligatory to supply UFL with feed?
Protein on a grass based diet is of very little importance.
One of first questions I ask along with ingridents list from top to bottom …wouldn’t be too impressed with pk ,wheat feed ,pat hulls etc anywhere near top ……feed milk are totally pulling the piss this year with spec of nuts and what there charging ……there’s definetly not the same response from feed either this year …..there’s a lot of substandard straights I think comming out of Black Sea region
UFL is a closely guarded secret. You would be lucky to get an approximate figure and it is never written down.
👍
I’d be buying dairy nut by UFL also, not protein.
UFL = Unitè. Fourragère. Lait. = 1kg barley.
Maize isn't always great in France either, lack of moisture biggest problem. In fairness our maize is looking very good this year, two full cobs and still green and growing.
Priced yesterday for 15% off a crowd I normally don't buy off, 350
I'll keep improving my grass silage for another while and see how that goes. I have too much ground on the outfarm really. Not the worst complaint to have.
395 I think I paid for the last load of 15% with megalac, actisaf and a good mineral pack. Not allowed get a higher protein nut - more BS.
390 for a superdy superdy nut with magic fairy dust. How ever I get a few ton of maize meal mixed in for 310
