Does this look bad this far out?
Lashing down and very windy in Dundalk. I don't think i'll go golfing today.
Gust of 82km/h at my station in Waterford City which is relatively high for my somewhat sheltered station.
Waterford Weather station just record 81.5km/h gust
Highest gust midday 102kph Roche’s point.
Just a standard breezy day here in the West. The rain is fairly moderate too. I am just hoping during the winter we can get some storms that track further to the north west like they used to years ago.
Wind def picked up in Waterford.
Same in South Tipp, didn't stop raining since about 6am
These may remain the top gusts from Agnes. Let's see....
Few miles up the road from me https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid02WUumwFsMR65TSCrx6CFyWpMzdZGDSBv7tedMg4HBwVzowdPPiTuER6AvFNJtXP2yl&id=100001862284271
Definitely another level. Dangerous out there now. Poor kids getting picked up from school in that.
Wind at its strongest all day so far now in Mid Cork. Lot of ash trees under serious pressure…
Don't want to start one of those conversations but suffice it to say it is a Cork, Waterford and Kerry event so far and they had orange warnings way before 9pm last night. Other counties were added then and they have yet to bear the brunt so that was in ample time to be fair to Met E.
and that squall line is at about dungarvan now. Will be interesting when that hits.
Yep ,blasted through, hope it's nearly gone.
33mm rain so far has fallen
The point I made, which was subsequently deleted, was that it was a south and south eastern counties Orange-level event days ago, and that became more clear with each model run. Waiting until 9pm last night to warn the south eastern counties was negligent at best, but I have my own opinions on why they did that, which are clearly not allowed to be aired on this discussion, as certain individuals who will remain nameless for now have clearly demonstrated by reporting some of my posts to the mods.
Wet and breezy in Galway this morning but obviously we wont get the brunt of this storm. It has stopped raining now and amazingly I can see a large patch of blue skies to the west. I wonder is that the eye of Agnes?
Athenry highest gust = 54kph (11am)
Mace Head highest gust = 74kph (11am)
90km/h now the Max Gust at my Waterford Station. This feels on a par with anything Ophelia or Darwin gave us in Waterford City.
You keep banging this drum.
How is it too late. 12hrs notice.
What preparations do you need to do?
You can't stop trees falling or power cuts. At 9pm you can decide not to travel to work or bring your children to school.
You would be on moaning if they warned you Monday and the storm turned and missed us that they put out an unnecessary warning.
That's just now..well 5 minutes ago, internet is acting a bit for me.
I have moved away from south side of my house as the wind is freaking me out a little. I’d enjoy these storms more if there weren’t so many trees nearby. 😳
location south carlow.
Anyone know of any decent webcams down along the south coast?
The ash dieback will cause road problems for many years. On a positive note most ash trees have lost their leaves by now (or are dead already). The ash dieback fungus rots the tree from the inside out so many branches that look 'ok' are red rotten and could fall at any time.
12 hours notice, most of which are night time hours. That's reasonable? There are many items around people's homes that should be secured prior to an event like this, and calls to be made on travel plans for school, work etc. A lot of commuters in South Eastern counties hit the hay around 10pm, so you think that an hour is sufficient for them to get their decision made and make alternative arrangements?
Tbf they were very late with the orange wind warning. We got a rain one earlier in the day yesterday but they dragged on the wind warning despite it being pretty clear it was going to be needed.
Part of the country should have been red (the south looks lethal with all the trees and cables down) and the advisory to stay at home due to it being business & school hours. That exponentially increases risk. If peak was overnight instead leave it at orange.
Just passed a car on Merrion Rd welded into a wall beside a big pool of water on a straight road. All occupants out thankfully.
It was quite rough at high tide down at Poolbeg!
Not often you match waterford airport for gusts. They just reported 49kts / 90.7km/h for 11:30 utc report.
Not fully accurate. The ash dieback weakens the tree so that the honey fungus can attack it and that’s what rots the trunk. It’s hard to tell from looking at the tree if it has honey fungus. We took down three some time ago and two had the honey fungus.
waiting on a contractor to come and take down the rest in garden and along the road.
Mod Note: @doralives You have made your point in a number of posts now - please leave it that.
