They're very slow with the Genotyping for the scheme. I have my samples in since the start of July and its still down as "Sample in lab". Was this the same for BDGP scheme?

If like me you weren't in BDGP and most of the cows aren't genotyped, you'll be cutting it tight now to meet:

Applicants are required to ensure that on the 31st October 2023 at least 50% of their yearly reference number are eligible females that are genotyped 4 or 5 stars on the replacement index

What's the story with the training aspect of the scheme, when has it to be completed by. I haven't heard a word about it since I joined the scheme.

There’s two courses that have to be completed by November 15th 2024, both can be done the same day, no payment for doing them. There’s a tender process to see who gives the courses, don’t think that has been done yet.

Has anyone got the genotyping results back yet. I wonder if those who sent them in in June have any word. Mine were sent on 11 July so if there done in sequence the will be later. The

I've got half of them today. One wrong sire and she's a 5th Calver!

Hopefully rest tomorrow and in place for Oct for the scheme.

Got my notebook today. Do I have to use it or can I just continue with filling information in on icbf website

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,702 ✭✭✭tanko

Mine goes straight in the bin every year as soon as i get it. Filling in the info on ICBF.com is the only place that matters.

For the genotyping they must be testing samples one by one and updating the system. One of my 1st calvers went from 5 star (141e) to 3 star (87e) strangely! Huge drop!!

Looking at the numbers and where she drops is age of first calving (she calved at 36mths) and cow live weight (I'm not sure what this is). A bit frustrating as shes a good quiet cow and has her Saler bull calve at ~1.5kg/day at last weighing.

Anything on this or when would the ICBF website be updated with results?

Wouldnt mind knowing where I stand myself (as I wasnt in BDGP) and time is starting to close in now if a heifer needs to be bought in.....

Something has been updated alright. We had some here at 5 star that are now 3 star in the system. I asked them about them when I was ringing them a while back for something else and they told me that as long as they stay in your herd, they are counted at the previous score.

Where it is a pain in the bollix is that we are currently waiting on some to come back to hit the 50% number. And we would be expecting the ones that we are waiting to be equivalent to the ones that were 5 star but are now at 3. So I have to guess that these will come back on this new scale at 3 and we won't hit the 50%

Rang them last week and said my results were back and that there is a new update on September 26th so should know where I am then. I'm currently short 6 for this year but hoping it'll be less.

I Genotyped 8 as requested for the SCEP scheme, it looks like only 5 results came back to ICBF. At the minute I am one female short of meeting the requirements for 2023.

If I check ICBF for the 3 remaining females for which 2 of them show as been 5 stars (which would mean I meet the requirements for 2023) but the 3 females display the following message:

Genotype available for animal, but not yet included in the genetic evaluation

Anyone know what this means and why they might not be included in the evaluation??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,712 ✭✭✭Jb1989

3 samples haven't been examined yet for what ever reason

They seem to be updating as they go for this as a number of mine have being added singly over the last few weeks prior to yesterdays update. The Genotype available for animal, but not yet included in the genetic evaluation means its complete but wasn't updated to the system yet

It maybe worth ringing them to see as they are usually very helpful.

Looking at herdplus we’ve some included already, some in the lab & 1 had a poor sample which couldn’t be evaluated. Do we have to do anything or wait for them to make contact?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 255 ✭✭Thekeencyclist

Rang them there, looks like some of the results arrived in different batches with the last few arriving to ICBF on Friday of last week (must be the ones i'm missing) which they expect to have up on the system this Friday. Fingers crossed, i get that last heifer with the stars in.....

Do you have to join herdplus to see how cows sampled got on.ive heard nothing since I've sampled cows

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,560 ✭✭✭Hard Knocks

It’s the easiest, still a cost all the same. You could try ringing ICBF

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 628 ✭✭✭jd06

Iv my genotyping done on my heifers nearly 2 months ago.

I looked on icbf and all I can see for the genotyping is the invoice. So no idea how they are rated. I'm checking it on my phone if that makes any difference. Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 10,856 ✭✭✭✭893bet

you won’t be able to see on your phone on the app the genotype results

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 628 ✭✭✭jd06

    Cheers thanks for that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,712 ✭✭✭Jb1989

    Maybe not,

But if logging on to icbf via mobile phone, I ALWAYS go to menu, and pick 'switch to desktop version', it always has more information on it.

Badly layed out site tho, for phone and Computer

Is it possible to run a report in SCEP like we could do in BDGP to see the herd status as of today ?
