Yes, that’s the plan. Mogeely to Youghal scheduled to open then in a years time.
Can I ask is the map on the first post of this thread still being updated and does it reflect the current state of available Greenways? While it's great to read about all of these different schemes it's a little hard at times to keep track of everything that is ongoing.
Ridlinrussel hasn't been seen for a year or two so no
Another year??? That's very hard to understand if true. Based on the drone footage on various YouTube channels, the Mogeely to Youghal section is substantially complete.
Ya, it was meant to be opened two years ago so I reckon the contractors are screwing them for every cent they can.
The rest of the route is probably in the state Midleton to Mogeely was this time last year, that is; largely complete, grand to hop on with the dog or for a jog but not suitable for kids because of stretches not fenced off to streams/river and because of the dodginess/illegality of jumping ditches or squeezing past fences to get on.
I'd seen the workers putting up a second set of fencing just past midleton , must be 2 or 3 months ago , and was hoping that was just close to midleton town - not sure how much i fancy being hemmed in by 6 foot high wire fences ,
Dont quite get the desire to make sure the only access points are by road crossings and the old stations.. its a path
I don't think the real railway took as long to build, with picks and shovels!
H&S and litigation averse. If they need to do work on it in future they probably want it hermetically sealed off from the public.
You won't get many hikers doing the whole Famine Way, once its all wide tarmac. All that existing soft trail surface and side vegetation from Castleknock on will be gone soon.
On the plus side, it will be good for cycling. You can't please everybody!
We did the rathkeale to Adare during the summer.
First time on a y of the greenways. It's an absolute credit to everyone who was involved.
Aa a family with a young springer spaniel, we had a ball. And she actually sat down about half way back with tiredness. Never happens usually😀
Cork to Kinsale funding announced
Waterford to New Ross
Is this the same route that the AIRR identified to be reopened for rail?
Wouldn't want to share that tiny looking tunnel with a cargo train 🫣
That's a separate old railway. Though before the railway review was launched, Wexford County Council was looking to turn closed railway between Belview and Rosslare into a greenway too. Here's a map:
I thought that was already under construction for some time, or am I thinking of the northern part from Rhu Glen to New Ross?
I'm not sure, not overly familiar with the project
Proposed greenway over Cherrywood viaduct with links to Shankill (Stonebridge) and Loughlinstown hospital.

Eh, what happened to Luas to Bray? That was supposed to go over the viaduct?
I dont think it was, I thought there was another bridge planned?
Btw Luas to Bray is postponed until after the Metro due to "capacity issues in the city centre". Eamonn Ryan said it in the Dail
OK but like can you not protect a corridor.
The dunkettle interchange started about 10 months later and is due to be completed 8 months earlier!
The Midleton to Mogeely section of the Greenway will not open this year as planned, apparently due to the recent flooding in the area.
If memory serves me right construction commenced late 2019!!! Unbelievable how slow progress is.
I was wondering would they blame it on the flooding - it was going to open in autumn , and they were tipping away altering the car-park , changing gates ect ..
Theyre still tipping away in the car park , i assume the flood would have delayed them a few days - there was an awful lot of water flowing down that part of the railway station/ car-park / greenway ,
I doubt it did much damage to the actual path ,
Where is the route map of this Greenway available?
So frustrating.
I presume this is CCC getting bluffed and fleeced by the contractor.
Guy in the bikeshop has shelved plans for a bike rental unit at the Midleton start. Just Sick of it he said. Moving his capital on elsewhere.
Turns out having a kid takes away a bit of time from you, boards definitely took the back burner! I've kept the map somewhat up to date, though sporadically and with what little info I could gather. If there are any glaringly out of date sections, I'd appreciate a steer to save me flipping back through 2/3 years of pages! I might roll the 'Potential Active Rail Routes' into the 'Potential' routes as well, they are all 'potential' routes after all.
Holy crap welcome back!! Congrats on the little one
Tidied up the map, trails along active railways now folded into 'Potential' and all potential routes off by default, makes the map a bit less busy.
I'm sure there are things in the wrong column, new routes proposed etc that I've missed, so if you find something missing let me know (If anyone is brave enough to make a version of KBakers excellent Dublin Cycle projects Trello Board https://trello.com/b/dps7lepq/infrastructure-projects for the whole country I'd take my cues from that 😅)
Welcome back, you've been missed.
Two omissions that I can point out are that Tralee-Fenit has completed and the one in Athlone has crossed the Shannon on the new bridge.
Here's one for you
