It's very simple with DAFM they use a carrot and stick approach. Tams and voluntary schemes are the carrot. Follow on about 5 years and you see it as compulsory. Look at the moment with Less, it's well on the way with the stick. The next few we can see is the genotyping, cattle handling, fertiliser register etc.
All those schemes are coming from Dublin, but the IFA vice-president said at the ploughing he understood why some Irish farmers think they’d be better off outside the EU due to Brussels supposedly dictating measures.
I’d trust Brussels any day of the week before Dublin.
Ever notice that the dairy lads with all their own slurry gear are the ones most likely to need an extension??
And the most likely to be spreading on Christmas week...
All of these things are well flagged. The EU have a rule where of something is compulsory you cannot subsidize it. This is why funding for TAMS in certain situations for derogation farmers was pulled. It effected me in the last Acres as I am above 150 I have to use LESS but I could not enter LESS in ACRES which would be worth 5-700/year
You find that most lads that are a bit organised have no problem getting slurry out. I do not have a large farm and never have an issue with getting slurry spread for first and second cut 45k gallons for first cut and 25-28k for second cut. As a small lad no point looking out the window on Saturday morning and ringing Tom to spread slurry.
In general the more I see of life too many lads want to see the problems......it's just as easy to see the solutions
But a blind man could see it wasn’t going to last
The grant for dero farmers to buy LESS gear was pulled without warning. The farmers who would use it the most. How's that helping the environment
It was not
Ahhh nooo I've never noticed that 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄it's the complete opposite here lads may have some sort of tanker themselves but it's the contractor in with the pipes and dual wheels or huge flotation tyres of needed 🤔🤔 some joke
No I'd say you are dreaming it. More likely to be the lads with dry ground I'd say. The lads with the wet ground need to be more cautious.
The sale of in calf heifers isn't going great in kanturk
Radney heifers sold well ….first herd up nothing sold failed to get starting bids at 1300
Radneys went well but no sale on alot of them.
Is the sale over ??
What was first herd mylawn? What did they make last year 2k+
I was there …all bar 1 of first lot radneys sold
Yes ….failed to get opening bid on all of them I think …wouldn’t open under 1300
It wasn't without warning tbf. I remember it being well documented that dero farmers need to have it by a certain time and after that grant will naturally be gone
got maize in yesterday before the rain. Would happily have left it till next week but happy we took it now, an awful lot of it was lying over
There were lads grant approved that couldn't buy a tank in the end because of the rush on tanks. Manufacturers couldn't be sure they could deliver even 6 months after the deadline at the time.
https://www.businesspost.ie/news/dairy-co-ops-revive-proposal-to-sell-iconic-e1bn-kerrygold-brand/
I don’t how that was possible. A lot of dealers around here nearly always have an extra tank in the yard
we went over the road here to a local guy who wouldnt be a big dealership but sells an awful lot of stuff and he had a well speced tank in the yard for sale
Yeah , no thanks
Dont prople realise when marketing rights are sold the farmer becomes a price taker correct me if im wrong but have kerry and glanbia any obligation to pay a decent price i dont think so.Or have they any obligation to market irish milk .Dairy farmers are like beef farmers now
crazy stuff to be considering selling our premium brands......cant release equity in brand??......we dont need equity in brand we need the brand to pay higher than commodity prices....this plc mentality needs to stop at coop and processor level.....there only aim should be return the highest price to suppliers....
how they left 4 senior exec all leave at same time with no success planning....gone to private equity and then suddenly offer for kerrygold??? only in ireland!!!
Drift of a bad smell coming from this.
Farmers need to resist any notion of leaving go of their brand, a top world recognised brand...invaluable.
Similar to Hinchey selling the Dairygold silverware for short term gain……
Processors own Ornua.
If they can see a way of releasing equity, who knows what they'll do.
Kerry Group are the only PLC with a share. I think the Ornua shareholding came back to Tirlan.
It has the way executive in these companies think it's they developed the brand. Originally Sir Dr Tony's brainchild. It was developed from there. It's a huge brand why would you sell it. Just go out and hire a few young ambitions executives to carry it on for another 15-20 years
Well I wouldn't know the in and outs of it but I suppose it would be similar to when Kerry went PLC. Released loads of equity while still continuing to trade.
Now you can argue if it's good or bad but the reality is that the PLC environment tends to attract the most ambitious head people.
Why do ye thing the present top dogs are leaving to go on to bigger and better things.
