North Tipp
I killed a few steers today in Midlands at 4.70 base.
i was quoted 4.70 for heifers with Dawn in Slane last week, didnt end up going
What are the chances it'll rise over the next few weeks?
I'll be calling the agent Monday
I wouldn’t be banking on it, just been quoted 4.65 for heifers, next week in the East of the country.
Can get another 10 cent elsewhere but have to travel a good distance so probably not worth it. It’s fair sickening at this stage.
I wouldn't be counting on it. Weather and time of the year in the cartels favour.
Longer term, the downward pressure on grain is worrisome for next years beef prices...
I have negotiated 4.65 base for a good batch of bullocks next week...i was told there is a pull to 4.60 though....
Journo saying €4.70 freely available? Weather playing into factory hands of course.
Ive been at this game a good few years....
I take a good pinch of salt when i see prices in papers etc....
Thats why i like coming to this thread...real figures from real farmers...at least i know from other genuine farmers how much i am getting fleeced by!
Crystal ball stuff..but lads will be looking to move stock off land as it get wet at the moment
Rising oil prices and the pinch on diesel with the ban from Russia coupled with the drop in grain price is going to make it interesting. The flush of cattle coming off the field for the next month is going to put the ball back in the factories court. Once they are flushed through the system it's probably going to go up. Beef price in the US is at an all time high, derogation is going to pinch the feedlots. It has an interesting feel as to what is going to happen coming into the spring
This might effect things too!

It nearly down to 4/ kg in Australia. My lad was talking to a farmer in Australia he worked in out there who he keeps in contact with. 2-3 weeks wait to get cattle slaughtered. Lamb and wool much the same output well up but poorer markets.
Problem in the US is they are really begining to struggle with water from wells in feedlots as well as well as a decline in suckler herd numbers. Traditionally not a lot of there beef came from dairy herds.
They’re talking 4.60 for next, it’s a big struggle to get 4.65 so my two agents tell me? Anyone hear different?
Thats exactly what im hearing...i have a dozen HEX and AAX going so i was able to get 4.65.
Live exports for Australia to Indonesia and Malaysia are under pressure from FMD (foot and mouth)and LSD (lumpy skin disease). They are trying to keep it out but need the exports to these 2 countries. This has backed up their kill. Couple this with a rise in numbers from rains following the droughts. It's a fragile market out there.
Brazil have devalued the backside of the real, making their exports cheaper. Long term it's going to bite them, along with the need for traceability. Look at the way Argentina have pulled their exports to get control back on their people due to the devaluing of the peso. The collapse of the peso is shocking and hyperinflation there
Brazil is on that route aswell. The change of leader with Lula being more left wing, more environmentally pressures, a young population demanding change. Beef numbers are going to pinch here. The USD is 50% stronger in value the past 5 years due to devaluation. There is only so far they can go on this.
In conclusion, the world beef is less than 1% up but markets are tight in key exporting countries.
Has anyone got 4.70 here the past week for steers?
Yes
But can't for next week
4.65 I'm hearing
They are doing everything to cut but at the end of the day they can’t get enough cattle at d mo serious demand for beef balls still in farmers court
Load of AA and HE heifers away tonight to dawn meats,€4.75 base+ 20c aa bonus/15c he bonus..pull comming for next week I'm told doe
With aa and he cattle you have much better bargaining power. Even the base price is better for for those types.
I was in burger King during the week and ordered a aa burger. It was terrible, going to stick with the whopper in future. I'd bet it was a bull judging by the taste and look of the meat.
To be fair most of them fast food burgers are compareble to tinned dog food,..try an genuine Angus or Hereford steak and compare it to the equivalent continental steak..the AA and HE will beat it hands down for taste
I agree, but often got aa burger before and it was grand but this was dog food as you say.
Ah go Easy on the bull bashing kk. Sure god knows what’s in any of those burgers.
4.65 steers, officially there on 4.60 but 4.65 can be got at the moment but could be a struggle as the week progresses
Did you ever see a bull after it was slaughtered or worse still an old bull.
I adore beef but the aftermentioned is not for me.
A bit of thinking back over the past 10+ years, I have never seen a price rise in the month of October, the best has been steady for a pair of weeks. The flush of grass cattle have to wash through the system before something come.
Yeah I’d imagine an old bull wouldn’t be great.
I bought striploins in a butchers in a town a few weeks ago. Presumably they were heifer beef , lovely size, fat cover, colour etc. but we could barely eat them.
im sure any young bull handled and processed correctly would be better than what I bought. A lot must depend on the processing and handling.
Wonder is the mart a better option at this stage? I saw finished bullocks near €3 a kg liveweight in carnaross last Monday.
