Not a good look. I wonder did he go because this was going to come to light?

i would argue a good amateur photographer could produce what’s required in this role. I have done a number of courses and it’s a hobby I indulge in and I’ve met many non full-time photographers in my time who could do this job if you pardon the pun with their eyes closed.
I’m not saying RTÉ should not have an in house photographer. They probably should. But one photographer for all their needs should be sufficient. Not one solely contracted to take 16 pics a week for one show!!!!
And €80k is a very good wage for same. I’d doubt there’s many professional photographers working for newspapers or magazines or even photography companies making that, and they’re doing more than 20 hours a week for it if they are.
My friend does it as a hobby and is an amazing street photographer. He is retired and takes between 500-1000 photos a week all over the country. He uses various cameras and lenses that are not cheap. Here is a sample of his excellent photography
Pointing out that it makes no sense calling people who discuss a thread subject obsessive is not an insult.
Taking it as an insult makes no sense either.

The difference betwen Tubridy and Rick O'Shea is that O'Shea has a community and is very much part of a book-reading scene. That's completely different to Tubridy's "one to many" approach which is essentially his book "review" slot from his radio show transferred to Instagram. Tubridy is, in effect, a one trick pony and he's trying to apply that one trick in a very different medium (Social Media). Social Media depends on interactivity and Tubridy has always had gatekeepers to keep people away.

It broadcasts a cult of personality cohort of the beautiful people live their lives that is meant be regarded in RTE's esteem, in awe by the diminishing and aging audience and the younger ones. Not like 30 years ago, when you could watch useful, insightful material.
Any indications Tubridy has a UK deal yet? Online media reports various sources were pointing towards that over the last week?
Deal implies singular….he has at least 5, but they’re all top secret at the moment. He’s going to announce them on the BIG podcast that’s going to start at an as yet undefined date. The BIG podcast will be broadcast from the recently built state of the art studio btw.
Good point. He wouldn't strike me as an natural fit to try to get any venture off the ground himself using social media posting and online interactions with people/prospective customers. Tubridy really has little interest in people and even less in trying to plámás them in an attempt to drum up business. That was all a first class act of his at RTE but beyond the requirements of his role on radio or TV, he had no interest in dealing with the public online, hence running away from Twitter.
This is an issue at RTE. What are the photos used for? Do they sell an annual Fair City calendar? Most likely the photos are used on the RTE website to go along with a useless article talking about what 2 characters are up to this week.
It's systematic of an organisation with zero control or care on its expenditure. You can be certain that if RTE was actually forced to live within its means they would not be squandering €60,000 a year on a photographer for 1 TV show.
As I said upthread, he is late to the party on that - if that is what he is attempting to do - by showing the odd book on Instagram or whatever he has been doing. Rick O'Shea has himself very well established in that whole thing, for a long number of years.
Completely agree, he has not got the interest in people (one of the reasons he was so damn bad at his job) or the wherewithal to get anything off the ground.
You don't need to get into the weeds on this one with me. Oddly it's something I know about.
No film or negs required.
I do hope he remembered to get a good aerial - makes all the difference when your broadcasting target audience are more than 5 miles from the transmitter 🤪
I realise I sound a complete plank but if someone is paid what I consider a really good salary i.e. ceo of bord na Mona for example, why not just pay for your own car?
People on a whole lot less manage.
Imo, and I'm probably wrong, but it seems the more these people have the more greed just raises it's ugly head.
Rick O'Shea is not a real person.
Its a fake name.
So, like Bryan Tubrity or whatever his name was then? Many DJs use a "stage name".
You would have to have lived under a rock your whole life not to know that. It's a joke name. Even a very simple Google tells you his real name.
His real name is Robin Banks.
Again, my negatives and film comments were related to a much wider and broader role, not the Fair City gig.
Also just on the spend in RTÉ as they "go digital" here are a few things RTÉ provide online that most probably aren't aware of : -
Weekly Sports Podcasts: -
Weekly News Podcasts
Arts
My question is why so much sport, why not put some of this content either on the RTÉ News Channel rather than let it waste away on Digital.
How are this podcasts doing on a weekly basis?
And that's not mention RTÉ Player originals (If Fair City can only garner 30k streams per week how does an original fair?)
I was talking to someone last night who was of the opinion Mr. Tubridy might be venturing into Politics representing the good people of Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown for FF. It’s a far cry from the once-held lofty ambitions of President, but I suppose the TD salary and unvoiced expenses might see attractive to someone with no income.
I disagreed as I felt it would be too much like “work” for a man used to working between 5-10 hours per week on busy weeks, but I could certainly see him winning a seat in such a constituency.
Would he take a seat of Cormac Devlin? or take one with him?
The present bunch of FFers might object to him being given a run at a seat at the expense of someone who has put in the hard yards.
"It’s a far cry from the once-held lofty ambitions of President"
Did Tubridy ever say he had ambitions to be President, or is this just more uninformed Boards.ie speculation?
Respectfully, shouldn't that be a 'no trick pony? I had rte radio 1 on in the background the other afternoon. For a quick minute I thought I was listening to RT. It was Ray D'Arcy, the voice was similar, the punctuation & delivery the same, the drivel content the same. The inane waffling about what he did saw & ate that day,, exactly the same.
Kevin B needs to get a new vision pretty quickly, & clear out the dross, no matter how unpopular that decision is.
RTE is like the boring monotonous céili band, before the advent of Sean Ó Riada. Sadly KB is no Sean Ó Riada.
Nah it was Dusty Rhodes
Like they did with Stephen Donnelly, who waltzed into a Ministerial post - not just a “basic” TD? 🤣
Michael Martin appeared to be fluttering his eyes at him the weekend before last with his comments on Tubs treatment….like I said, I personally think it’s too much work for him, but it’s an option to add to his many broadcasting offers 🙄🤣…..
@Brian Scan Re. Tubs and the Presidency, no, he didn’t actually to the best of my knowledge say he had plans for the Aras himself; but there were many puff pieces (no doubt penned in NKM Towers and then submitted to the tabloids and rags who’d publish anything) written about it, or the line about the future Presidency was dropped into an article, and at one stage Paddy Power were offering odds on him assuming such a role.
But you know all of this and were just having another cheap shot at me - as usual.
And before you say “do you have any evidence of these articles?”, here’s one:
There’s many many more available by googling the subject.
Or the "George I'm gonna be minister for finance Lee" situation again... but this time with no return to the breast of Rte.....
So you're basing your speculation on The Star's speculation.
If there's a whiff of a Kennedy in the air or a distant relative of a Kennedy, you'll find Captain Schmooze there to meet and greet and namedrop some late society hostess not related to him.
It's a sad sorry sight.
