ideal vogue 26kw boiler - noise when warm water is running

we had this radiator installed recently.

it started making noises. called the plumber, he said he doesnt know what it is. he records it and says it sounds like a water hammer, but he hasnt heard such a sound ever before, he would show it his peers and come back. weeks pass, i dont hear from him. i call him, he says he has the parts and comes around the same day!? dude.

anyway, he says its a water hammer and installs a little tank, explaining its like a diaphragm. sure whatever, if it solved the issue, fine. while he was there we ran the water of course and it didnt happen. but then it started again the same evening.

but it doesnt. whenever i turn on warm water on the taps, the sound comes. sometimes very quickly within 5 or so seconds, sometimes it doesnt happen at all. sometimes it takes 15 seconds. sometimes it lasts as long as warm water it running, sometimes it goes away after a short time while warm water is running.

what the hell is that? its just annoying and extremely loud, especially from the outside, that i'm sure every single neighbor can hear it.

i aired the radiators, i tried the "vent system" feature of the boiler, i tried raising and lowering the water temperature... i dont know what else to do. is it a defective unit maybe?

the plumber doesnt look like he wants to solve the issue. takes him weeks to come around with me having to call him like i have nothing better to so. texted him last week, he said he is on holiday and may be back by the end of the week.

i wouldnt even know how to explain the noise. its certainly not whistling, or is it?

I don’t think it’s in the pipework. Running off water will fire the boiler, and I think this is where the issue is.

Possibly in the air intake to the burner or something on the combustion side. Would suggest getting a gas installer to have a look. Preferably one who has experience of Ideal.

nothing simple i could try myself?

i'm really annoyed by this, and i dont want to get another plumber and pay him to get this fixed, money is tight these days. i hope the plumber who installed it comes around quickly and can fix it.

Not really - it’s a regulated space and in any case the remedy will need to be confirmed with a flue gas analysis.

Maybe get a different plumber, or service firm to have a look. They should be on the RGI register.

You could try calling ideal energy in Malahide (Irish distributors of the ideal boilers). They might be able to recommend a good service person.

I would be interested to hear the outcome.

thanks... will keep that in mind. the plumber who installed it IS rgi registered, which is why i'm so annoyed that he doesnt seem to know what the issue is. like, i cant be the first person ever to have this happen?!

Agreeing fully with @Lenar3556 here, but not all RGI's are specialists in every particular boiler, it can often help if you get a specialist in the brand. I had to do that with my boiler as I wasn't happy with the part-swapping guesswork from the generalists, so I went to Vokera directly, as an example. As Lenar said, Ideal directly might have some guidance on who to contact.

Listening to the noise myself though, I can't help thinking that it sounds like a water valve partially opening and vibrating until the water pressure changes. It kind of sounds like very rapid water-hammer into an expansion vessel.

could the "expansion vessel" be that "diaphragm" that the plumber installed? its a little roundish container along the pipes... but even if, he installed that to get rid of the problem, but its still there.
