But it's pretty much the same thing, a very small amount of very popular retro songs played on a loop for a month, then replaced by another bunch played in a loop
They had Makes Me Stronger by Kelly Clarkson on the whole time recently. It's Wherever Whenever by Shakira now
When you're looking like that song by Westlife is a particular favorite of Dempsey, also When you're gone by Bryan Adams and Mel C being played every day now too.
It's not just daytime hours anymore. Ed Smith had a show from 7 - 10 where he was free to mix it up, followed up by Paul Mcloone who played 2 hours of alternative stuff and gave airtime to a lot of new Irish bands. Ed also had a great show on Sunday evenings where he had a new theme every week, all his own choice. Now it's the exact same homogenous shite Dermot Kennedy and clones from Ian Dempsey in the morning until 10PM. Then poor Ed has to do today FM rocks which is basically awful American college radio from the noughties. I actually feel sorry for the guy having to play that muck when he obviously took so much joy in curating his own playlists.
"curating his own playlists" ??
Do you need me to explain it to you?
Tony Fenton used to be from 2 to 4 in the daytime. You would hear a wide range of stuff from boybands to cringey pop, to rock, to soul, to up and coming Irish bands to motown and indie.
He picked his own tunes and while the cheese was often ramped up, I'd listen to re-runs of that show from 9 to 5 on Today FM rather than the tripe that's on anytime I switch on during the day now.
"Curating" wtf ????????
Of course we don't want Beatles or Sinatra during the day (although it would be a welcome change) , but the 'retro' songs they are playing often are from an era with tens of thousands of other songs available to choose from.
Perhaps just something a bit more varied, instead of the usual big names?
The Top 500 songs that they done over the 4 days at Easter was great and just something different that they need to try out more.
I'm pretty sure all the music they play is selected by an algorithm now, the DJ is just there to fill in the silences between the songs. The algorithm just picks lowest common denominator music.
Don't be afraid of learning new words.
I wonder is Paula McSweeney due to take back her old evening slot soon? She’s in for Ray Foley this week while he’s in for Ian.
Seems to have made it easier too. Think ive heard it won twice over the last few shows whereas it was maybe once or twice over the first few weeks.
Has the Dave show got any better overall? I tried to listen for a minute this morning but he introduced the guest host, and I immediately switched to Tidal. I can't picture his show doing better than D&D, so guess it's inevitable he has a fall in listeners.
That guest announcer thing is gack. Some irritating Dub or over excited person that Dave will no doubt call a legend or some other hyperbolic scour.
The Dave Moore show seems fairly lame to me.
They have obviously decided to really stretch out the "celeb" interviews by introducing them and then cutting to a song selected by the robo DJ, followed by a brief chat then robo DJ selection 2.
Today FM has really become a boring repetitive waste of time.
Last week they had Paula McSweeney following Pamela Joyce and it was 5 hrs of inane drivel delivered by 2 presenters that are EXACTLY the same in every way.
It's going that way for me too. Only listening to Claire Beck and Block Rockin Beats on TodayFM these days.
I could have sworn she was on instead of Pamela Joyce. You're right though, they are the exact same.
Paula was on for Ray Foley who was in turn on for Ian Dempsey who was on holliers
If you think 11 minutes 35 seconds (according to the podcast on the website) is a brief chat, fair enough. There's no music in that segment, either.
I mean, yeah, the show is still finding its feet, and some of it doesn't work (the "guest" public announcer is just dire, listening to Joe Public over a bad phoneline), but the "cup of tea interview" thing is fine.
Was I having some weird fùckin dream/deja vu or was Louise Cantillon on before Ian this morning?
They seemed to have quietly started this. I noticed Ben Murray on from 5am (possibly earlier but I was listening from around 5:15am) last week I think it was. He was in for Stephen Daly around that time so assumably they have the evenings presenter from 7-10pm record some overnight links for them
One man’s dream is another man’s nightmare.
Yep, I heard it too.
My first thought was did they bring back the early breakfast slot? No mention of it on the schedule on their website anyway.
What time was when Louise Cantillon on
It's 5-6am (potentially earlier but Im not up that early myself).
Just before 6am. Radio alarm only set to 10 to 6 so don't know what time she would have started.
Dave is getting desperate, they've now robbed Lucy Kennedy's 'Little Holly Talks' game. Woeful.
Yesterday they were talking about Aertel closing, Dave wanted listener's memories. One woman says oh remember when the page wouldn't load right and you'd only get half a screen, Dave's response to it was to say "oh ya, remember that, phenomenal"!! Such scour.
The referring to every caller/person/inanimate object as a legend is also very grating.
Unbelievable!!!!
