It's not that difficult to understand. Trying to successfully treat a cancer patient is not causing them to suffer. They can refuse treatment if they want. The wife of a friend of mine was recently given the all clear and she wouldn't be 40 yet. If it had been 100 years ago she probably would have died.
Dogs and cats etc can indeed be treated for different types of ailments and diseases such as cancers. However we decide not to treat them due to the expense. Given that we decide not to spend the money, we then put them out of their misery as an alternative.
You are free to advocate for the same money-saving strategy on people if you want. I would not agree with you.
But we are not spending it on rehabilitation.

so add euthanasia services to the mix…..add the thousands of people arriving here to the mix…. But we should be investing in euthanasia before health ? Not in my opinion.

This isn't just about money. For what it's worth, we put down our much loved dog because he went blind and started getting lost in the house. He was an old dog and was already deaf and getting incontinent. So instead of having to continually retrieve the poor confused thing from the corners of rooms, we had him put to sleep. It was the kindest thing for him and money was not the reason for it. What was the point in keeping an old, blind, deaf dog alive?
Similarly, we need to talk in a realistic manner about euthanasia. I absolutely agree that we should have better treatment and facilities for people who need them. But there comes a time when no medicine and no beds and no medics and no therapies can relieve the plight of some people. We ARE keeping people unnecessarily alive (which is another side argument) when by rights they should be dead. And there ARE people who are existing with physical pain and terrible disabilities who will never be cured. Don't cod yourself into thinking that palliative care is the solution to everything and that people have Hollywood deaths. They don't. This isn't about bumping off granny so that you can avoid Fair Deal. It's far more serious than this. Again I ask, how many of you anti euthanasia people have any personal experience of watching a loved one live and die horribly?
Well I was visiting someone in hospital today and there was an elderly patient there in final life stages (as in a few days left) in a multi bed room, crying to just be left alone, distressed and tired of being poked and prodded, no dignity, no privacy, and their family there all day in and out watching that and very upset. I’m even more convinced that people need to be given a right to make a choice when they are in their full faculties about how they want to go out. We’re actually cruel not to allow it.
I watched my mother live out her final years in a nursing home. It was a sad ending to an otherwise dignified hard-working life. She was begging God to take her before she ever went into the nursing home.
She could sense her mind dwindling and was bed-ridden for the final five years .
She was kept sweet with happy pills.
All I could think of was 'what a waste of resources'. €40k a year would keep an entire family going. She was kept alive, comfortable, and happy (drugged) so others could feel OK. She never wanted it.
She was prouder than that. To my mind, it was abuse!
I have MND over 8 years, well past the life expectancy I was given. At the time my kids were babies and after considering everything I decided to "linger" for them.

The next step is post-birth abortion: if a child is born with significant disabilities, putting it out of it's misery immediately, because it is the "humane" thing do.

The article suggests people op for death as they can't afford housing, have a treatable mental illness or in some cases are guided towards it by case workers. Given that we struggle to do many things right in this country can we be trusted with a law like this?
It's not about money. If an animal is suffering with no prospect of recovery it is euthanised because that is the 'humane' thing to do.
If a human is suffering with no prospect of recovery that option is not open to them no matter how much they want it.
