Is the plan to scrap the current offers / scratchcard and replace with this points system?
There is no plan. yet.
It seems like it is a test and if people see what you get for the points it’s not even worth collecting them, it’s like the tickets at the funfair where you spend a fortune to collect them and get crap at the end
I won’t be collecting the points anyway
It would definitely put an end to 90% of my Lidl shops, I'd switch most back to Dunnes (where I have a 20% employee discount in the household on top of the 10 off 50).
Just as we consider adding a pantry/root cellar in the garden that would allow more stocking up.
Ah well... here's my best Lidl+ receipt in memoriam if ever does come to the crappy points system:
This should be an Olympic sport......
"Ah well... here's my best Lidl+ receipt in memoriam if ever does come to the crappy points system:"
You should have that framed!
There's whole TV shows dedicated to it! Check out Extreme Couponing!
It’s not Lidl plus related but there is a coupon that may help some people out over on the steak thread on bargain alerts, check the list of shops accepting it 👍🏻
In true "Extreme Couponing" fashion, I didn't pay the €1.09.... I had two layers of cashback on the card side. €1.06 actual cost, €0.18 of which was VAT.
Still doing pretty well even though they've cut back on Lidl+. Adjusting the menu at home according to what we can get cheap. I use an ERP style inventory system called Grocy to track stock and prices. Grocery bills this year are 5% down on last year even with inflation.
Extreme example... but I find it a fun hobby.
You track the price in stores or in your stock after buy?
Can you explain these discounts
Total would have come to 28.48, paid 1.09 so ~96% discount.
https://grocy.info/
After I buy, and I track consumption/opening and purchasing, for example:
Can be handy to spot things like false price drops/deceptive offers. I use the mobile app to track my shopping and have a barcode scanner in the kitchen that automatically tracks consumption/spoilage and can add to the shopping list.
For example the medium noodles on offer in Lidl+ this week for 75c/unit for two have actually been 69c/unit bought without the offer in my local Lidl for the last few weeks, including this week. And 1L protein milk is currently 5c/L cheaper in my local Tesco vs Lidl.
I think in that particular case I took advantage of an app glitch Lidl had that gave me five €25 off vouchers on the app (no minimum spend, one per transaction) which I then stacked with in-store offers (the €1.29 christmas pudding being an example) and the two of the weekly offers. On the card side I use curve (which gives me 1% cashback) on top of a credit card that gave me 1.5% cashback.
We were saving for a new house so we hit a 72% of post-tax income savings rate over the last 6 months (while paying our existing tracker (which increased by nearly €400/month))
I try to make a habit of layering it all up to reduce the per unit cost, for example:
I do the same with Dunnes:
And for about half the year (~€2000 of groceries) I use pre-paid cards to pay behind the curve card that I've got under the small gift exemption, so spending pre-tax income at a 52% effective discount on top of what i get in store/cashback. The Dunnes one above actually cost me €11.85 in post-tax equivalent after the cashback.
So that's:
€43.84 RRP - €6.42 instore discounts - €7.48 employee discount - €5 5off25 - €0.25 cashback x .48 = €11.85
Well I guess we know now who best to consult with for the big Christmas shop this year!!
Use the small gifts exemption card, through curve cashback to buy €100 of vouchers for the Tesco Christmas savers scheme to turn €48 post tax (at 52% marginal rate) into €106 of clubcard vouchers + €1 cashback 😁😅
I like this game :)
*Edit: so you reminded me to do this... I'll actually end up with €107 clubcard vouchers + €1 cashback as I also got 100 clubcard points
..
Sorry... got carried away. https://www.revenue.ie/en/employing-people/benefit-in-kind-for-employers/valuation-of-benefits/small-benefit-exemption.aspx to use your pre-tax income to purchase a pre-paid credit card like Perx (which is a qualifying non-cash benefit), then spend on groceries with as many stacked cashbacks, coupons and vouchers as possible. One4all works in Tesco but not Lidl or Aldi, Perx works anywhere as it's a standard prepaid mastercard.
Thanks, worked a treat.
Net cost... €3.21 :D
Did you print it out or were they fine with it on your phone as an image?
Fine with the image on the phone. It actually scanned on the Lidl+ scanner. I scanned it before the teller started and then lidl+ after.
Does anyone have the Parkrun code for this week please?
new one lands later to start tomorrow
Caller, do you even parkrun?
Parkrun179 this week, clementines or caeser salad.
Very good, I tried grocy in the past but I didn't find a good way to organize myself in relation to barcodes and different brands, maybe I should create a generic product (milk, for example) and put the brand in the description or something like that, is that how you do it? And which app do you use on iOS? I didn't really like the experience of what I tested (Grocy Mobile) I believe it's only this one.
EDIT: I forgot to ask, do you monitor the values of upcoming purchases to find out whether it is actually a promotion or not, just in the available sources (LIDL+ app, grocery sites)? Or is there any other way to monitor it in an automated way and show you the current prices of the products?
……
This week’s coupon code is PARKRUN080 and will allow you a choice between our pointed peppers and tuna steak in brine to help fuel you for, or recover from, your weekly parkrun.
Can't fault the Parkrun freebies lately.
Thank you but i am not able to add it to my app. says 'code is incorrect'
because it is too early, lidl is not even open yet
If you read back even a page or two to the last couple of codes where the same was raised by other posters, it doesn't go live at midnight usually, more typically after 9am in fact.
