No it’s still very wet, it will be the end of the next week before I can go near it, this field has never been so wet, so if I was ploughing next week you reckon get the lime on first

Quad spreader for the fertiliser maybe. With the fine week ahead you may get a chance to roll it towards the middle or end of next week. Happen once where I was following the contractor around the field rolling and picking the stones as i went. Stared to get drizzly as he was finishing. I had to stop and leave the last 2 acres as clay and seed was just starting to stick to the roller. I went back a week later and it was ok to roll. Turned out the finest.

I have a field to reseed, it’s very wet, it’s burnt off two and half weeks

when a field is burnt off is it slower to dry? Since the grass is dead would there be less soakage?

A neighbour here last back end had similar ground burnt off, and disc it. Weather beat him to get seed in. Ended up reseeding in early May this year. He burnt of again and has a very clean sward no post emergence spray.

I have 2 acres on wet ground to do, but it can wait now until next year. Hard to get clover established once past the 15th August, it's not burnt off

I levelled a bit of sunk ground today and fired out a bit of grass seed along it and rolled it in. How long would it need to be left before sheep could go on it?

in answer to the question about rolling a field ,I reseeded two fields here start of Aug ,rolled one ,weather broke and only got half the other one rolled ,grass came a lot faster and thicker in the unrolled ,glad I didn't try to go back in when it dried out now

I'd only roll with a light roller and only in optimum conditions. An empty water roller, just to give the seeds more contact.

Have a field sprayed off at rhe minute. Got great kill on the grass but the docs are a lovely shade of green still. Never took a stir out of them. I used roundup.

Put 10litres on 4 acres (1.6L per HA) so it got plenty. Thinking maybe the docks weren’t fully up at time of spraying and then once the grass died, they flourished as no competition.

re fert. Ideally you should have done soil samples but failing that then 10:10:20 is your safest bet.

Soil sample done, low on K and ph bang on 6.9.

Will spread 3 bags of 10-10-20 before sowing.

We spray here at 3lts to the acre to get a kill. That could be why the docks are still alive unfortunately.

We just noticed that anything less then you mightened get a good burning. Sprays not as strong as they used to be

Roundup is some dirt compared to what it once was …..for the docks either napsack or quad sprayer and hit them with grazin pro ….I gave around bounds a run with quad sprayer yesterday morning (nettles and thistles mostly )and there lying over withered already

after lots of thinking and discussion, I’m going to chance ploughing. Turning them down is probably the best option and manage them in post emergence later.

What type of soil wouldn’t be suitable to plough?
