It is made by BYD aka Build Your Dreams. Hope it comes here and that they change the name before it does,
This could really challenge the Tesla Model 3.
It looks great inside and out
I'll ask the simplest and most obvious question - given price estimate above, what does this offer to win over a Tesla Model 3 buyer - it'll be more expensive, with less brand recognition and street cred. Does it have anything that really makes it excel over Model 3?
Both cars Chinese built, don’t know anything about BYD. Tesla are not known as a quality upmarket brand, they’re known for poorly built cars. The BYD Seal looks way nicer than the blobby Tesla.
Can't specifically speak as to BYD but having been in a model 3, a model Y and a model X I've been cured of ever wanting a Tesla.
Yes it has an actual dashboard and a proper interior.
It's way better designed and classier than the Tesla too.
In this thread the BYD will be put on a pedestal.
Ask the same question in a Tesla thread and that will be put on a pedestal.
Point being, as a buyer, test both.
Most of the comments are from people that don’t actually have or own any of the cars so mostly pre judgement from internet stories.
BYD no better built than a Tesla based on my experience.
Im pretty sure both cars have a dashboard.
Whether you like the minimalist design of a Tesla or you like the traditional cockpit is subjective and there’s no right or wrong.
As for one car being classier than the other, very subjective there, but everyone is free to build their own dream.
BYD not here long enough to form an option just yet but the rest of the world have voiced their opinion on BYD issues. I have access to 1 Atto 3, and so far no issues touch wood.
Tesla build quality not anywhere near as bad as people and non owners make it out to be. Mostly it’s people rehashing something they read online.
@derekreilly welcome 😁. I've been a follower of the channel for a while good to have you here. Nice review on the seal.
Is the sunroof a solid glass roof or can it open? And also if you have chatting with them I wonder what's the story with the annual service. With only Dublin and Cork dealers. Would a service involve a day trip down south.
There’s at least 2 in Dublin. Deansgrange and Navan Road.
Their place in Deansgrange looks very impressive when passing by but have yet to venture in
I think they took over the old VW garage there. Same as Navan Road. In the Mercedes block (MSL).
Dublin's a similar distance for me in Galway. It would be a day out either way to get there and back unless they have service centers in other cities.
I agree. This is where a ranger service would excel similar to other brands.
Sunroof is solid glass, no opening.
Re dealerships, 3 at the moment with MSL (2 in Dublin and 1 in cork). They have interest from 30+ other dealers around the country and more to be appointed over the coming months for a more geographical coverage
Good man Derek you're some boy for getting around ✈️✈️✈️any thoughts on the model 3 Highland?
Really looking forward to getting a look and drive in it. Road noise and suspension seem greatly improved but not sure on the indicator on the steering wheel. Better aero and better range too. Will watch the price creep up I'd say
I reckon we need a derekreilly FAQ thread to save his fingers answering the same questions ;-) also so we can see solid opinion in one thread without searching every single thread ;-)
Would it not be easier to watch the you tube review?
Matt in CarWow has 2 videos on it now.
I meant an FAQ generally not for this car, or we will be following the fountain of knowledge around every thread 🤣
Whatever works best. Happy to help
@MarkN (Nobby on cars) used to do same here. It gets tiresome I think on the person as they constantly have to reply. It may depend on the person themselves but it becomes like an AMA threads with hundreds of questions.
OP could set up a thread and see how it goes?
A path travelled before so...fair enough. AMA could suck the life out of someone for sure. Is there a model of a locked thread? anyway, excuse me bringing thread off on a tangent :D
Past experience is no guarantee for future performance in fairness, so no harm if he wants to start one.
Natural traffic will decide if it’s tiresome or not.
A recent launch? Germany I think.
The range is impressive, it has a nice interior also, something that bothers me with the model 3, so bland and boring.
Can we extrapolate from the German prices?
Plus 20% 🤷
Yeah. Had a feeling it wasn't going to be good news.
Could maybe compare the Atto 3 price in Germany compared to here for an idea.
Good call. Oddly cheaper headline price here compared to Germany. I haven't dug into any hidden charges/grants etc just going off the sticker price on the respective websites.
€41k here v €44k Germany for the Atto Design spec.
