Unless one is released on their own recognisance, the court will want someone to guarantee you will return when needed, like for trial. That's the role of the bondsman. They guarantee the person they've bonded out returns. Typically their fee is 10% of the bond which they get when the legal proceedings are concluded. It's not a loan.
