Putler will respond the only way he knows how.
Expect a barrage of unguided (or poorly guided) ordnance showering over cilvilian areas in the next few days.
As if Melania would mourn Trump! She'll be dancing beside the hearse!
Not if one considers the support of Trump in America as a Cult.
In the night of August 24, the Ukrainian GUR in support with the Ukrainian Navy executed special operations at the Cape Tarkhankut, in Russian-occupied Crimea and eliminated Russian manpower and equipment. All objectives have been achieved and in addition the Ukrainian flag hoisted, without any Ukrainian casualties.
You love to read it and on the same night the Russians were shooting down their own too.
A "special operation" that takes only 1 night ?
I thought they were supposed to last over a year 🤣
Back to the frontline; I've seen the first utterances that Ukraine may have taken Hill 166 as previously identified by DailyKos in their article here:
Ukraine Update: Ukraine is about to reach the 'downhill' part of the Tokmak offensive—literally (dailykos.com)
Could be massive if it turns out to be true.
"consider every single person who is ostensibly Russian, as potentially hostile"
That's been the standard operating procedure for Russian security for over 100 years.
I like this piece in that article posted above.
To understand how even small hills confer tactical advantages, it help to think of the height of hills in terms of buildings, rather than comparing them to mountains. A 9- or 10-meter hill might sound tiny—but it’s essentially the same height as a three-story buillding.
If a soldier attempts to use bumps in the ground as cover to approach a target, being higher up than an opponent is a major advantage. Cover is rendered less effective on the ground, while the height advantage conceals more of the person firing down.
A similar effect happens with armored vehicle. It is easier for an armored vehicle shooting down to secure a line of sight on targets than the opposite.
Even small advantages in elevation can have outsized effects.
It really does show: that as much as military technology has advanced across the centuries, geography still trumps all. I hadn't realised the Ukranian advance was literally moving uphill; a small but pertinent detail that has perhaps gone unreported, or unrealised, by those suggesting the counter-offensive has been slow or ineffective.
The supply shortages in artillery ammunition shows how much less value had been placed on it as a significant weapon of war in recent years too but I guess no one was predicting the kind of war we are now living through.
I saw it 😀. Sorry I should have referenced the original post but didn't go back looking.
Not me Bud! Maybe @correct horse battery staple ?
They sold 32 of them to Romania, and 12 to a private US group. Apparently only 57 were considered suitable for a sale, so perhaps the 15 are in a bad condition. That'd leave about 13 working planes they could give to Ukraine - hence the number 12.
Thanks for filling me in, @Polar101 Would those aircraft that aren't suitable at least be suitable for use as spares donors?
For reference this is where the hill appears on the current Deep State map which is noted to be a couple of days behind with updates. The distance to the frontline on the map is just over 3 km. It's bang on the next defensive line, with part of the first line seen to be in the grey zone already, which makes me less likely to put as much faith in the claims I've seen so far but it's worth watching.
Tokmak
I would highly recommend "Prisoners of Geography" if you haven't read it already.
Aye read it a few years ago. IIRC it went into the ticking time bomb of Russia's shrinking demographics too, which is more apt than ever.
My bad - edit made! Apologies to @Furze99 @Dubh Geannain @correct horse battery staple
Where's @Gatling to tell us all that this still isn't happening. That was his spiel despite the many announcements. I wonder how he'll explain this
He got threadbanned along with the useful info he posted because he rose to less useful idiots baiting him.
Ah so he did, oh well
Has Ukraine Found A Key To The Minefield Barrier? | by Barry Gander | Aug, 2023 | Medium
Given his love for being in front of the camera, I'd say it was simply due to his ego,he somehow believed it would be different for him. Anyway Vladimir has sent his condolences to Prigozhin's family. What a decent guy. It won't be long before the Kremlin will say their investigations has established the west, possibly assisted by Ukraine, did it!
Ultimately Prigozhin was a boy in a man's world.
If Putin decided to terminate the 3 main players in Wagner it is plausible that he had his men extract as much information about the co conspirators in the army, police or sitting in government. Maybe the 3 lads were dead but not on the plane, just a way to conceal they may have given information by staging their deaths. There was obviously a command hierarchy in Wagner which I think Pution would like to get to know better.
Prigozhin knew Putin better than most and had a long time to observe how the game of thrones is played in Russia. Prigozhin also did his own fair share of merciless killing, or at least sanctioned it, so dealing with people in this way who stepped out of line was very much part of his own ruleset as well. Very little reason to think that Prigozhin thought he was in the clear, but rather that he must have thought he had some kind of ironclad insurance against reprisal that went beyond Putin pinkie swearing not to touch him.
Look like his second jet flew to Azerbaijan today from Moscow.
Well with Prigozhin's Wagnerites on the loose, and swearing revenge, it may not be too long before they will be facing genuine hostile Russians.... and it could not happen to more deserving people !!!!😂
If Wagners want revenge they would do well to join forces with the Russian freedom fighters.
