This case had been absolutely harrowing for all involved.
Those poor babies and their families.
Words cannot describe the depths of cruelty at present here. My first child was born 6 weeks early. They are so delicate and helpless.
This vermin Lucy Letby deserves to rot
but you don't even know what kind of killer Lethby is? we don't know what, if any type of psychiatric condition she has. is she schizophrenic, deluded, or just alienated? so how can you say there is nothing to learn? she has a mind does she not?
quite simply we wont know if we don't enquire, or should we not try cos it's too difficult?
exactly what they said to Chris Mullin. well done.
Hey I can't discuss with you if you're putting words into my mouth
I didn't say any of that
that's ok i understand.
you said and i quote "What insight have we gained into killers like letby"
well we dont even know what type of killer she is (unless you want to use the tabloid monicker "evil monster" which doesn't really tell us anything useful), so how can you possibly say that?
Any insight that could be gleaned from this case to prevent further such cases occurring will come from a review of the practices in place across maternity hospitals around the UK - not what is inside the disturbed mind of Lucy Letby.
So it's all a bit of a moot point really.
I don't think anyone disagrees with you re scientific enquiry, but I can't quite marry this to your concept that putting Lucy Letby in prison is somehow wrong.
Where should she be, if not in prison?
What has the Birmingham 6 got to do with this case?
You’re barking up some deluded conspiracy trees here in order to try cast doubt on this conviction. Well done
i disagree. i think quite a few posters have given up on scientific enquiry.
where should she be? clearly a secure mental facility would be a more appropriate place.
So lock her in a mental health facility when she doesn’t claim to be mentally sick, when she has no psychiatric disorder? She maintains innocence!!!
you've obviously missed my earlier post, where i said i believe she is GUILTY. but i wont be shocked if new evidence comes to light to throw doubt on that. the British Judicial system has form in this regard.
You think she’s guilty but also want/hope they find something to discredit it. You’re playing both sides here.
Folks can always throw “new evidence” that illicits doubt. That’s human nature.
Can be applied to many scumbag killers correctly convicted and locked up for heinous crimes. There will always be people trying to muddy the waters.
yes as i said from the very start i think her defence team have let her down badly. there are 2 'er 3 possibilities. either she is
Why would a mental facility be a more appropriate place? She hasn't been diagnosed with a mental illness, nor does she claim to have one.
If you think she should be put in a mental facility due to her crimes, then shouldn't we be putting all serial killers in mental facilities?
Or is it only baby killers?
This is the thing about a judicial system, you are required to have reasons for sending people to specific places of incarceration.
'To probe someone's mind for the progression of humanity' is not one of those reasons.
So any person who commits desperately ugly acts has to go to a mental health facility whether they like it or not, whether they’re diagnosed or not?
You're taking the simplistic narrow view which is understandable as it's what tabloids and the majority will do
There's 2 aspects to prevention
1) Systems is easy to change
Unless you change systems everywhere killers will target another profession where they will gain access to the vulnerable . Systems need to be changed everywhere there is vulnerable persons present.
It has been stated by experts that killers such as letby are already set on their actions before they enter the profession.
2) Other aspect is possible treatment , screening and preventing these persons gaining access to vulnerable persons. That's where research and insight into the minds of these killers could become valuable .
Wrong. Read my post just above yours.
I'm not a psychiatrist but I'd be very interested to hear their diagnosis.
It's quite obvious there is something wrong with her. She murdered babies FFS.
Who interviewed someone in a prison yard? What planet are you on
A grave.
I prefer prison though
To be fair a lot of them would end up in Broadmoor or other facilities after the trials, diagnosed post conviction.
The prison system still has a duty of care to them, their "well being" doesn't end at sentencing. It's system who decides the appropriate setting for them.
Lets just say I wouldn't be too keen in letting this one work in the kitchen or have access to food preparation.
I think Broadmoor is for the criminally insane.
If an insanity please was available the defence would have used it surely?
The defence couldn't even argue for any sentence reduction, or any mitigation at all. How many times do we see sentence reduction for adults in Irish courts due to terrible upbringing etc.
Nothing said by her defence in court.
She'll do life in normal jail I think.
No it isn't, Broadmoor is a secure mental facility to threat acute mentally sick people.
A high proportion of people who are incarcerated have mental health problems, a portion of these have severe problems, these people need to be moved out of prison for their care and safety of others.

The madness rolls on.
The US-based campaigner who launched the fundraiser claims that the serial killer’s conviction “may represent the greatest miscarriage of justice the UK has ever witnessed”.
😂
It'd have plenty of competition to beat to that title I can assure you.
She pleaded not guilty
Nobody has argued she's insane. She doesn't appear to be even remotely in the insane ballpark.
A fatuous attention-seeker.
Not an iota of evidence or analysis, just a school friend wilfully blinding herself to the facts.
Have we sunk to the stage where no verdict is final, no matter how fair and reasonable!
Letby would be well advised to ignore these ignorant would-be campaigners and try to adjust to life in prison.
Criminal insanity is a very narrow definition. In the UK the legislation is basically 150+ years old.
There are groups that want to see it reformed to incorporate a century and half of mental health science.
Serial killers would rarely qualify anyway, more of a defence for spree killers.
She's definitely sane
The British legal system seems very efficient all the same. That cop arrested during lockdown for murder and rape was lifed off within 6 months.
I remember this case years ago. Defence argued schizophrenia.
Prosecution argued otherwise, successfully by all accounts.
Jurys in the majority will usually side with the prosecution expert witness.
They are duty bound to analyse the evidence of each individual case.
