I had thought they were Russian soldiers off the books, sold to the world as "Donbass separatists". This was essentially the beginning of the invasion and orhestrated as a separatist movement from within but the influence was from outside. I think it was the Russians who accidently shot down MH-17 due to sheer incompetence, but I'm open to correction.

Was it not Russian forces who did this, unmarked. It was Prigozhin who called the whole thing a sham, so essentially the person who shot MH17 down is potentially the one who shot him down.
For all we know this is all engineered and this man is off with a fine wealth to live in peace somewhere.
I wonder if he maintained sufficient consciousness as he plummeted to experience any empathy for the passengers of MH17. Unlikely but one can always hope.
Putin must have genuinely feared further trouble to go to the extremes of having Prigozhin assassinated.
This is what I am wondering. Has this put a higher price on Putin's head. Could we see some senior wagner people offering their service to Ukrainian intelligence. Or will this act as a deterrent to others who might have been thinking about rebelling. I just wonder what the CIA would actually do if they ever got wind of a plot to kill Putin.
