This case had been absolutely harrowing for all involved.
Those poor babies and their families.
Words cannot describe the depths of cruelty at present here. My first child was born 6 weeks early. They are so delicate and helpless.
This vermin Lucy Letby deserves to rot
With all due respect. Every victim impact statement always sounds the same. Every single time.
She knew what sentence she would get, victim impact statements or not.
She was getting life in prison regardless. If she was really remorseful she could have shown it by pleading guilty and not letting the poor families going through the trauma of a trial and the details
So what the victims are allowed there say she should be made be in court for the sentencing
“We have attended court day in and day out, yet she decides she has had enough, and stays in her cell – just one final act of wickedness from a coward.”
^^ a comment from one of the bereaved mothers - one of her twins was murdered, the other poisoned. She's not wrong.
The Times reported today that - A father, sobbing, said the murder of his two identical triplet sons had torn his family apart, leaving him suicidal and ruining their trust in medical professionals. “It has destroyed me as a man and as a father,” he said.
How do you go about regaining any trust in medical professionals after going through that?
She's not done being wicked, but she'll never hurt another baby that's for sure.
I can't comprehend what they are going, and have gone through. The anger/shame/resentment/ paranoia/ sadness/depression. Sitting in court watching her lying for weeks on end must have been infuriating
It must have been tough for you too
Absolutely no idea. Hold on aru are outside my door now! They'll never take me alive!
Tbf while that is a bizarre torture porn fantasy.
I do think absolute wastes of skin like her should be first in line for any kind of medical trials rather than having to seek and pay volunteers.
Make some use out of her at least. Costs a fortune keeping dregs like her alive so if there can be some benefit gained from there existense take it.
They don’t sound the same every time to the person who’s speaking it. With all due respect.
She does not appear to be mentally ill but is certainly disturbed in some way and also very immature for a woman of her age
Reading accounts of the case there are a whole lot of issues that should have been dealt with that may have led to a different outcomes one example she send 156 texts on one shift when she was supposed to be looking after extremely sick babies, where was the supervision, who was her manager? where was the expectations of professionalism it was a working environment.
They do to me.
I don't agree with that poster but no, they're still miles off someone who murdered numerous newborn babies. Saying stuff on the internet doesn't begin to compare.
She would have got the injection if she was in America.
The cost of locking her away for potentially 50 plus years makes you wonder about bringing back execution
Why would you have to know her to dislike her? Is murderering and attempting to murder several babies not sufficient? Between the Mason Greenwood thing and this, the devil's advocate stuff is really grating. How is she not a monster? Humans can be monsters. There's more than ample evidence of that. Sometimes it can be due to mental illness or a traumatic childhood or neurological issue (I reckon most of the time one of the above applies) but sometimes it's not any of those. Some people are just innately bad. People are innately good too - why not the opposite being possible?
I don't agree with barbaric punishments either, but to compare someone, who actually murdered a number of infants, to someone who's writing on the internet the punishment that that person should get... is incredibly obtuse.
And she'll need constant minding/segregation, can't see her lasting long if left in the general population for too long.
That level of babysitting makes it even more expensive.
Difficult as it is for you to believe, the fact that all the impact statements sound the same to you and me simply won’t be taken into account when they are deciding how to ensure that the convicted murderer can be compelled to listen to the pain he or she has caused to the loved ones of the dead person.
You mightn’t be so quick to dismiss victim impact statements if you were the victim yourself. Or the perpetrator.
…or maybe you would.
I mean... 😥💔
Are you taking the p or are you genuinely that self absorbed and lacking empathy?
A whole life term was warranted . Makes no difference to the bereaved parents though . Doctors , I believe , had flagged that something wasn’t right in the ward . But hospital management was too afraid to notify police earlier. Trust management should also be held to account.
Oh we are nothing alike so you can stop there already.
The only reason you “want” her to listen to the generic statements is because you are hoping that she’d suffer or feel remorse. Has it occurred to you that she might be feeling nothing of that kind?
She should have had her legs, arms, hands shackled and her mouth gagged and brought to the court…
what would happen if she was due to be cross examined during the trial ? She couldn’t say “ I don’t want to “… she’d have been conveyed there by physical force from her cell…
for the verdict and sentencing that should be available also to the judges…should have been enforced by the judges….justice should be handed down in a public setting…with the accused present….with the families and every person involved and invested in the trial present.
It's been proven several times over that the cost of a death penalty case in America is way more than imprisoning someone for decades. I personally don't agree with the death penalty as it's too final and if it turns out the court messed up it can't be fixed but I can understand people wanting it in cases like this.
Actually you're wrong
In the USA anyhow the death penalty is more expensive than life without parole
She should have been dragged kicking and screaming into that dock and strapped to the chair to listen to the sentencing and statements from the families. Why was she even given an option.
Disgusting last act from her.
Why would you be even remotely concerned that this monster gets the help she needs?
And you are the most important one in such situations. Behave yourself FFS.
They allow those most affected have their say, and may offer some sense of relief to them. If that's all they do they are worthwhile every single time.
This vile thing should be locked away and forgotten about, she deserves nothing more.
I’m amazed people are concerned she gets help. I hope she suffers every day of her time in prison.
For about the 10th time , the court doesn't have the power to do that
Victim impact statements are about the families. They allow those affected by the crime to talk about the impact of it and how they feel.
There are no guarantees that they will leave any mark on the perpetrator. Plenty won't care what the families feel.
I think one reason why Lucy Letby stayed away from her sentencing was because of a complete inability to face the reality of what she has done. The families pain would have hurt her, not because she has remorse and sadness for them but because she has it in spades for herself.
Lucy Letby doesn't function in a psychologically healthy manner but she isn't insane.
