Fishy Fishy?
GeoFood on North Main Street served us some of the most delicious khinkali (meat or cheese dumplings) and khachapuri (like a filled pizza with Georgian cheese - delish!!)
Pic of the menu below. The lady owner inside is super friendly and they have a bunch of ingredients for sale too from Greece and Georgia.
She makes everything there and then too so it's always fresh. Super tasty to be fair, worth a visit!
She was saying to us she just started delivery too
What about L'Atitude on Union Quay? I know they do Mussels.

Yeah, Fishy Fishy in kinsale almost always have monkfish in some form. Decent sized portions too.

Only Monkfish scampi on the menu unfortunately. That's breaded and deep fried I think.
Just checked the menu. Very yummy stuff, but no monkfish at the moment :( Will keep an eye on it.

Looks like I'll have to settle for "pan fried hake" for the time being. From all my googling today that's all you need on the menu to advertise yourself as a seafood restaurant.
Would monkfish be available in the English Market, or other vendors? I'd love to try to cook it at home.
Don’t know if they still do it but got charged extra for having mushy peas with my Fish & Chips.
The manager who served us offered them but failed to mention the extra charge for them.
I was fairly pissed off as mushy peas weren’t on the menu anywhere so it was basically a hidden charge that she threw our way.
I’d get over it if a place had a bad meal and give it another go but when they pull a stunt like that, they shall remain forever on my **** list.

It's a tiny shop but he has a good selection. Gets it from union hall, I think.
I love the smoked mackerel from Union Hall; I think Dunnes sell it.
I did try them before they decided to delete the prices from the menu outside.
I felt like it was a chipper pretending to be posh. But it was recommended by a colleague who sweared on his life it was the best seafood restaurant in Cork.
If there's one thing I learned from living in the city: if all the locals recommend something it's probably shyte.

We get Monkfish from the seafood shop just outside Carrigaline. It's already deskinned and ready for the pan. OH makes a delish sauce and eaten with rice...mind you, the house stinks. Would never eat monkfish out, WAY overpriced.
Dunnes in Bishopstown carry it too, but usually €5kg more expensive.
I don't think they are open Saturdays.
Saturday you get fresh fish at the farmer's market in Douglas outside of Tesco. Might have monkfish

Yeah thats pretty much true - some of it was they used to be good , and some of it is pile it high ...
Quinlans used to be good , as in a good fish and chip place, nicely served ,and decent portions,and reasonable ,
Well its not cheap now ,and the portion size isnt great ,and its still pretty much chipper food ..
I think Cork could do with a "family restaurant" - ie a chipper with adjoined seated area where you can get your fish and chips on real plates with real cutlery and have it with tea and bread and butter.
Dino's in Kinsale serve on plates. I think Dino's is over rated itself and very expensive.
Prefer Catch of the Day, over on the bridge most Fridays and Saturdays, but in a box!

Mains can be had for €8.90. The only thing over €10 is the massaman curry.
