This case had been absolutely harrowing for all involved.
Those poor babies and their families.
Words cannot describe the depths of cruelty at present here. My first child was born 6 weeks early. They are so delicate and helpless.
This vermin Lucy Letby deserves to rot
It goes back much further than mid late 20s
The BBC's expert who has worked with murderers and serial killers says the intention to kill is there and they make a particular career choice to suit that
Sounds very sinister but it makes sense
You don't have a vocation to work in nursing and then suddenly turn into a baby killer
Probably had murderous fantasies since before she was a teenager.
They'll find more victims connected to this bitch.
There are surely grounds to throw someone off a ward if they're incompetent and there is evidence to back that claim up. That would be straight forward I imagine. Has to be a regular enough occurrence really.
She was removed from the ward in June 2016 and convicted of murderer yesterday. Up to 70 detectives worked this case at once. That's how long it took to prove she was a deliberate threat to babies.
Really think you are barking up the wrong tree on this. The woman is a plain evil, detestable, vile, psychotic murderer.
Please don't be one of those people writing sympathy letters to her in prison telling her how wronged she has been because of the system.
After all that has come out, to find any sympathy for Lucy Letby is super odd. If she was mentally unwell she still had no right to commit cold blooded murder.
Easy to say.
But perhaps in the next breath you have the director of nursing saying that the doctors are bullying one of her nurses and she and the nursing team won't stand for it, and threatening industrial action if she's not apologised to.
And you know that last time there was something similar, it was a doctor with a bee in his bonnet.
(This is guesswork on my part, details may not be right. But nursing politics is a mighty beast and I've not seen any statements from nursing leaders - and I'm in the UK watching BBC news this week.)
you are missing the point. personally i don't care if they hang her. she'll probably do it herself in any case. apart from her family i dont think anybody will care.
my point is the media love to portray her as this evil monster. i don't think she is. she is a deeply disturbed individual. i do not buy into this evil nonsense the tabloids love to spin. i actually find it very amusing how individuals like yourself are so easily swept along by it.
Ok, so deeply disturbed. It’s just words. What she did, would you describe that as evil? And should she never see the light of day again?
Surely someone 'mentally unwell' wouldn't have pulled it off as well as she did for as long as she did.
This depression angle doesn't wash either.
Depressed people mostly hurt themselves, not others.
If letters are to be sent to her, I'll send her pictures of my kids every year as they grow to adults. Ya didn't kill these ones you mouldy rotten tramp of a thing.
You shouldn't be too surprised she elicitted sympathy in some people though. Powerful forces at play
So your issue is with the tabloids being tabloids here? The dramatisation of this case?
That will always happen-Graham Dwyer case is a perfect example.
But she surely fits the text book definition of evil
And kept on suicide watch. She can never let herself be painted as a victim of anything ever again. She's killed 7 babies that we know of. Likely more to find
Dwyer wasn’t evil either. Those 2 were just a disastrous couple that encouraged each other in their roles until tragedy struck.
Look up the definition for “psychotic” and see how it relates to this case before you embarrass yourself further.
You are joking?
Calling the police because you’re afraid a baby/babies is going to die on your watch, or has already died, can’t be described as an act of bravery.
The management team in this case was simply consumed with its own self importance and valued its own professional reputation over the safety and well being of the patients.
Ive no idea where you’re coming from on that point. You’re not making yourself clear.
Dwyer is definitely also evil. He murdered someone for a sexual kick. A disastrous couple? Gimme a break.
Tragedy struck?
Her collected her in shankill, drove her up there mountains and stabbed her to death and left her corpse for the animals
Real shakespearean tragedy there alright. Cop on to yourself
The cases aren’t even remotely comparable. Dwyer had shared his plans with Ohara and she decided to go along with it. None of that can be said about the Letby murders where the victims had no choice.
The evidence says otherwise in the Graham Dwyer case.
Read the text messages sent to her.
Not compatible to this case
She wasn't a willing participant. Just because someone is suicidal doesn't mean someone can murder them.
The only comparison between Dwyer and Letby is they both murdered people to feed their own ego
*Nurse Letby thread
Have read so much about this case across a number of media outlets. The amount of planning she put in to these murders and her level of denial and lack of remorse should lead the judge to a whole life sentence. She’s a very dangerous woman who has delivered a horrific level of pain and death. I can’t see any mitigating circumstances? Can anyone else? She’s not claiming any mental health issues, no deprived childhood, no violence visited on herself…she’s got a level of medical expertise herself that would mean if she was ever released she could easily manipulate herself into a position to satisfy her lust to kill again.
It'll be whole life term
Something niggles about the circumstancial aspect to the verdict
I believe she's guilty but there's no direct evidence albeit she was seen standing over a distressed baby
Has to be a while life term for her. No way she could get a sentence lower than that, all things considered.
It's fairly likely they'll find more cases when they trawl through her whole professional background. Another trial to follow after that
Is there somewhere online I can read a detailed timelined report of this case. Other than dipping in and out occasionally, I couldn't bring myself to go through the case until it was over.
Harrowing tale and my heart goes out to the families of those babies who not only lost a child but have to suffer in the knowledge that they didn't die naturally but were murdered.
It was very drawn out too. Lots of technical stuff. Forensic experts detailing scientific studies at length.
BBC, guardian and Sunday times websites have decent coverage.
I was aware Jon Venables reoffended.
Didn't realise Robert Thomson did as well.
@Jequ0n I would be the first to consider childhood, previous trauma and mental health when people do monstrous things. Not because it excuses the acts but because it goes some way towards explaining them - and we need this information to try and prevent a reoccurrence. I believe childhood trauma is the root of so many terrible horrors.
But sometimes people are just bad. Maybe emotionally unstable, maybe they have a personality disorder, but they're entirely self aware and responsible for their choices. The devil doesn't need an advocate.
I'm avoiding this case for the most part because it devastates me to think about what those tiny children went through, and the agonising pain their parents have to endure. It's unbearable.
I made that point that she could potentially be most useful in preventing further cases like this
The problem seems to be that they are unable or unwilling to co-operate meaningfully in this regard while in cusody
They use the process to continue the suffering of victims , use the information as a bartering tool or simply lie about it
Early childhood trauma would be a risk factor for personality disorder development alright. How that manifests into enjoying killing babies is beyond my comprehension.
You say it's beyond your comprehension yet you make the link between a disorder and "enjoying killing babies"
Does any such link exist ?
I would have assumed the "buzz" from the disorder is mostly around events bar the killing
i would describe her actions as appalling, shocking, and deeply, deeply disturbed.
i am old enough to recall how British tabloid media portrayed some Irish people as EVIL MONSTERS in the 70s & 80s. many of whom were later totally exonerated.
i'm NOT saying this girl/woman is innocent btw. i believe she is guilty and needs locking away, and probably treatment of some kind. she is unwell imo.
