This case had been absolutely harrowing for all involved.

Words cannot describe the depths of cruelty at present here. My first child was born 6 weeks early. They are so delicate and helpless.
This vermin Lucy Letby deserves to rot
The point I was making was people’s feelings, not how courts of law view and treat murder.
As in how not all murders are perceived and viewed and thought of the same way.
just one simple example: drug dealing gangster A crosses drug dealing gangster B. B murders A. This will never illicit the same outrage and disgust and incredulity as what Letby did.
People aren’t born evil. There are reasons why humans carry out acts that fall outside of the expected norm.

Some people, thankfully only a very small few are born evil. Lucy Letby was evidently pure evil.
There are 10s of millions of people suffering mental health and mental illness and not for one second would it enter their mind to harm someone else let alone an innocent vulnerable little newborn.
Do not stigmatize mental health sufferers by linking this pure evil psychopath killer to them.
There is not a chance she should be let back into society.
Feelings don't matter in a court of law. It evidence. And yes I know, victim impact statements.
It's a slippery slope if you base murder on age, sex, religion, ethnicity...
And also there'd be no sympathy pst and calls for help if it was the opposite sex. I'm not baiting or anything but it's true.
I'm horrified at what they did and they deserve to never see the light of day again.
But she isn’t unusual. There have been plenty of cases where people in caregiving roles murdered defenseless targets (Wettlaufer for instance). It doesn’t make Letby worse just because she murdered babies. They were just an easy target for her and she used the opportunity to satisfy her desires.
It seems to be more of a female “speciality” than a male one.
Most often, it would not be quite as deadly as Ms Letby’s actions. I & a group of friends know of a likely milder case where a narcissistic woman had a child who used to be repeatedly admitted to hospital gastro-intestinal disorder, all tests proving there was no actual medical disease present. They would keep the child in for monitoring for chronic diarrhoea, which the child grew out of and grew up to be a very healthy adult. It was said she was adding laxatives to the food.
In addition she was forever calling ambulances for both herself and her reasonably healthy husband. One of her own presenting episodes at ED was for an alleged urinary tract infection, apparent blood in urine. She enjoyed the morphine, but got fed up with hanging around and was about to go on a trip so discharged herself (without prescription) and partied through the holiday. Likely the blood in urine was menstrual in source.
It is not irrelevant. Not all killings/murders illicit the same feelings as others. This monster murdered 7 defenceless babies, and tried to murder more. I am not querying the sentence for murder. I am querying folks and their “hoping this monster gets help,” crap.

That sort of thinking is what always destroys these types of discussion. It’s irrelevant who she killed as the sentence for murder should be the same irregardless of the victim.

She continued simply because she was addicted to the “thrill” of the horrendous scenarios she created. Logic starts to exit the door once the emotional reward goes into overdrive.

I find the UK press absolutely unreadable in the main, with all the sensationalism, repetition and hyperbole, so have not read about this at all.

Of course she needs a to be locked up like any other criminal. Unless she is as psychotic or schizophrenic or so she very much had a chance to control her actions. You realise that personality disorders may explain what drove her actions, but it doesn’t excuse it. We all have choices you know.

I think they would only do it if there was something in it for them. Ted Bundy did start talking but it was always an ace he felt he had under his sleeve to use to avoid execution. Even at the times of his trials he would have been thinking "I can just drip feed them info if I'm found guilty and they'll never execute me because they'll want more".

i can only imagine she has not fully come to terms with what she has done. her defence team were a disgrace imo. they should have pushed her mental disorder more with the intention of seeking mental insanity. there is no way this girl should be in a prison, full of low-life drug-dealers, mobsters and the like.
This attitude is exactly why hospital management sided with her.
Personal opinion counted for more than the facts of the case did, and more babies died because of it.
Thankfully only the facts mattered to the jury in this trial, and opinion counted for nothing.
Thousands of people suffering with mental health issues sadly kill themselves every year. It's tragic.
How many decide to kill tiny babies instead?
She is not a victim in this scenario. She created it from the depths of her soul
No I think her 'high' was killing them and watching the parents' reactions. But they have not discoveted her motivation yet and may never.
Looking up those families on Christmas day stood out for me.

The professionalism of the prison guards is going to be called upon bigtime. It's got to be challenging being in her presence and tasked with protecting her. Would anyone be surprised if a prison guard went rogue? Her crimes are so repulsive.
i do feel sorry for her because anyone in their right mind would not do what she did. she probably is suffering more than you can imagine. we need to get away from all this moral outrage. it's not healthy.
There are managers in charge of trusts in UK that have never stood insude a busy ward /unit except on a supervised tour. These are usually financial or business management and would as another poster said be more aware of the danger of litigation over harassment and bullying of Lucy Letby than the risks to the little babies.
Different if she was deemed incompetent, she would have been moved out of the unit faster then.
I would think that they were totally incredulous at the claims by the consultants that this seemingly innocent person was in fact a Serial Killer!
Like how many serial killers would you come across in a normal average lifetime?
