Yes especially considering how obviously sensitive the relationships currently are in that a simple comment could end your career at least for the time being - it would never have worked out with current relations
I wouldn’t be too sure either that he’ll return medium term- if he makes good elsewhere he’ll definitely think twice before doing further work with RTE - I don’t think he’ll be twiddling his thumbs for long

A Narc is always found out, they have an end stage when everyone realises just what they are. They make a lotta noise for a lotta time. I’ve worked with couple of these. They always have an eventual downfall, but it’s too often very late. So many years they attract an audience, subjects of Stockholm Syndrome.
I always try and asked myself are you under the influence of Stockholm Syndrome, or believing people who have been sh1tty have turned ok.. I go with caution and keep a distance .
