Where have you been?
Every time they open their mouths ??
Multiple comments from MAGA Congress people talking about "Christian Nationalism" etc.
It's not exactly a big secret that they want Christianity to be absolutely central to how the country is run.
Trump himself couldn't give a shít as long as he has power and he gets to grift money.
Trump just wants blacks out of his apartments and for only people with yarmulkes to handle his money
And to rape women.
I (And many others) have said it MANY times that they had their chance on Jan 7 to distance themselves. Would have had months and years to tear him down: "He's the real RINO" "The GOP would never to XYZ" etc. They would have lost 2022 and may even have lost 2024. But with the global economy in the toilet post Covid/Ukraine etc, that might not be a bad thing. Come in in 2028/2029 as economy recovering as knights in shining armour.
Instead they leaned HARD into the crazies, the QANON conspiracy theorists, the racists, the homophobes, the terrorists..... Not only accepted them but actively sought them out. Embraced them. So they have sold their soul and are now and forever will be the party of the extreme edge. Each member trying to out-extreme the other.
Too many republicans don't live in lofty mansions on private islands, they're terrified these crazies would Paul Pelosi them if they abandoned Trump for common sense. And their money still spends.
They should have voted to convict him at the first, or I'd even take the second impeachment.
Rip the bandaid off.
Condemn themselves to 4 years of democratic control but at least by then have cultivated a proper contender for 2024.
The way they obstructed the 2nd impeachment was obscene. It could have been done in a week but they forcibly delayed the process, then declared the whole thing moot because he had left office.
For hating democracy so much Republicans seemed stupidly eager to force the matter on the voters. They have to know they can't win, even with their attempts to game election systems.
Christian Nationalism is not a white ethno state.
Thread that needle for us please, it's a slow news day.
As usual, nothing but guff.
This would be all fine and dandy except it's ignoring his failed insurrection and numerous attempts to interfere with the election result. These are the very things he's facing criminal charges for.
And Trump isn't responsible for Georgia or Washington or the department of justice pursuing criminal charges against him. I'm looking forward to him getting house arrest and hope that it becomes the case, cause he behaved criminally and tried to remain presidency through criminal actions. The fact that the system doesn't lend itself to interference as it might in Russia, doesn't mean he didn't attempt something totalitarian leaders attempt.
Your logic is like saying somebody who attempted murder didn't intend to murder anyone as nobody is dead. You just act as if Trump is a little embarrassing while ignoring the entire course of events after the election.
Fundamentally they were all only concerned with themselves.
Absolutely NONE of them are willing to risk their current position of power/influence for the longer term benefit of the party or the country.
So post January 6th you saw the immediate and uncharacteristically honest "Trump is terrible and needs to pay" responses from McConnell, McCarthy, Lindsey Graham etc. and then 24/48 hrs later when they saw that the base hadn't abandoned Trump , they all slithered back to protect themselves from being Primaried.
They are self-serving cowards , simple as that.
Technically true , but given that the vast Majority of GOP Voters and especially MAGA GOP voters are White & Christian then them getting what they want leads to a de facto White Ethno state doesn't it?
Thank you for conceding that so efficiently.
This is it. This is still all they have.
" I trust we can expect you to charge members of your own party. I won’t hold my breath…"
All, if not virtually of the witnesses against Trump are Republicans
The GOP really are a bunch of simpletons
@Overheal
Obscene? Yes, but there was nothing they could really do. We could say that these people should have some integrity and do the right thing, but this would have led to many of them losing their seats. Not every seat, because not every district is a howling void of MAGA, but enough to make them collectively profoundly nervous about pulling the trigger. Doing the right thing anyway and falling on their sword about it would have led to them being replaced by someone more hardcore.
Because these politicians rely on votes, they must be a reflection of their base, and their base is fúcking crazy. Therefore they must be fúcking crazy also. It's a grass roots issue and must be tackled at that level, but the very difficult question is how to deprogram millions of people?
At this point I'm not sure how you do, in my own personal experience these people aren't in my life anymore so you aren't going to sit them down and have a come together moment for a lot of them. Many MAGA interviewed equally state often they've lost jobs, families, friends, homes, etc. because they are, for one reason or another, fully committed, even violently committed to MAGA. It may really be that these people never really go away, they just stay mad and keep fighting to appoint fascists at election time.
Trump brown noser Ted Cruz attacked Bud Light for 'marketing beer to children,' Cruz involved his own child in naming a craft beer 'Ale-vengers IPA' - it was being brewed by... Anheuser-Busch.
"[M]y daughter Caroline helped me come up with the awesome name: Ale-vengers IPA."
thanks that was an interesting piece about backsliding democracy
"Ale-vengers"?
That name wouldn't even roll off Gene Simmons' tongue.
I was about to point out that adult children don't count, but then she's only 15 or so - talk about double standards (not that the standards are even correct, as we all know that most of the accusations lableled at anything LGBTQ+ promotions is highly liekly to be a lie)....
It's no Tactical Nuclear Penguin, let's be honest.
that pic is really old. 1990s? i didnt recognise Stone at all.
Well, in many respects the ultimate "tragedy" (so to speak) of Trump is that there's a groundswell of rural, poor white conservatives who have remained economically left behind - and then some - even after a Presidency elected almost exclusively on the basis of promises made to that demographic. Ignoring the dog whistles, Trump spoke to those with nothing left.
Not that there aren't desperately poor in other demographics, poverty more engrained at an institutional level, but Trump tapped into something he had neither the interest or talent to fulfill or follow through on.
Watching Evangelical Iowa leadership distance itself from Trump, but I also noticed how little the Iowa caucuses are a predictor for elections, but are a great kingmaker for Fox News correspondents:
If Trump wins in Iowa you know he's screwed lol ;)
Its like you found cheap knock-off Avengers toys in a street market.
Ale-Vengers, led by Pint Man featuring Chor, The Incredible Bulk, Gooeye and Black Wino.
Brainwashed by their Evangeliban leaders who hold enormous sway is a big part of that. After the 2016 campaign, Peggy Noonan (lifelong GOP-leaning writer, might've been one of Reagan's speechwriters too), said "What did Hillary Clinton have for the out of work auto worker in Michigan?" The answer was, nothing. Trump lied about bringing jobs back, undoing NAFTA, 'we're going to be so rich' and all that nonsense, and struck a nerve.
Something I'm interested to ask: who's advising Trump right now? I don't mean legally so much as general strategy. He's running for president - who is his campaign team? Who's he conferring with? Does he have a Bannon or a Conway right now?
I presume the two Millars are still around, the speech writer and the other idiot.
the ghost of Roy Cohn...
I'm not sure who he has left that isn't already a target of prosecution or flipped or what.
