Large queues at Bank of Ireland ATMs this evening.

I'm late to this too. But, I imagine the problem was in the backend systems rather than the ATMs. ATMs don't just decide to hand out cash without an okay from the bank after checking the account itself.
As a long suffering BOI customer this incident doesn't surprise me. Their technology is woefully backward.
It is amazing though how some people's understanding of fraud is so lacking. I was surprised at how some questions in the media yesterday seemed to reflect that - like someone asking how is this different from just "finding" cash that someone has left lying around. The law lecturer who was asked answered - no that is exactly the same. It is fraud/theft as well.
You should have a low tolerance for stupid. It's the only way to deal with it.
I have no sympathy for the clowns that took this money out, for once I fully support BOI and I thought I would never say that in my lifetime
I transferred 700 to Revolut on Tues night, only reason was that I got paid today and, BoI being the shiit show it is, wasn't expecting them to be back up and running, meaning wasn't expecting pay to go through
Heading to Wales for a few days with my little one today and didn't want to run short , hence taking 700
Wake up this morning, been paid and the 700 has just been taken out of my account so all is good.
Dopey friends of ours though, they withdrew 1500 and spent the lot on the electrical crap, gonna be hilarious watching how that one pans out.
I've a very low tolerance for stupid, and there's a lot of stupid about
You're like a broken record at this stage
That's exactly what they do, payzone for the gas and electric, usually pay the TV/internet at the post office.
I am trying to find the article but am 90% sure I read before that he hires his wife/partner as an advisor and she is paid from his TD salary that "he doesn't take in full". Smoke and mirrors.
How do the scrotes and the gibsmemoney brigade pay their bills? Surely that would be direct debit from the bank? They would be caught out that way, no?
Internet, electricity, maybe a phone plan, etc.
Direct debit is usually a bit cheaper.
I can't imagine them paying each bill by regularly depositing cash to the post office.
I'm late to this whole thing and I never bothered seeking out video online to see the queues for the ATMs etc.
But I've a question.
Did this only affect BOI "branded" ATMs or did it affect BOI cards ?
The reason I ask is that if it was the latter one would hardly expect BOI to be able to shut down ATMs that don't belong to them, as people are suggesting they should have done.
dole heads will not have to pay a penny back. That’s just how it works in this country
Since when do the government listen to the people, if Peter mcverry and the rest of the them kick up a fuss you can be assured sw payment will not be effected.
They’ve to pay the tax on his full td salary. After that he gets to do what he wants. The hr don’t redirect their salary to their party to avoid taxes. They’re all a bunch of spoofers.
There’s no such thing as free money. What seems extraordinary is the number of people trying to access the atm machines. Is it a sign of how bad things are for people or how self entitled they are. I really don’t know.
I like to be realistic and I don't get offended for others.
I work with lots of people and a good number of those are black and they are good upstanding folk not being sarcastic like you.
Plenty of black people working in nursing homes taking care of the basic needs of our ageing population.
The people that were in those lines are scum.
I would not invoke somebody's skin colour to try and excuse their actions people are individuals and are responsible for their own actions only.
Two of the groups you mention I wound not disagree with you to be honest.
Plenty of regular Joe Soaps of every skin colour working in our economy.
No regular Joe Soaps in those lines just scroungers but you think if somebody has the right skin colour that's ok?
The vast majority of the nation regardless of skin colour did not join those lines of scroungers.
I have no time for any scroungers in those lines or anybody trying to pick and choose to try and push their racism.
Edit honest customers should not have to pay for this the bank messed up they should take the pain.
Maybe maybe not, sounds like maybe you're one of them😁
Looking for hardship funds when your social welfare has been paid as normal may not be straightforward
Can't imagine cwo being too sympathetic
Government haven't a lot to gain here bailing out these people there'll be little public sympathy
Yes, thats who i am talking about. Unemployed social welfare folks.
working folks will have to pay it back, but they generally wouldnt have been dumb enough to withdraw the cash.
No payment plan for the former group, though.
Why won't they be put on a payment plan? You are very naive if you believe boi will just walk away.
I can only imagine the headlines to come when direct debits start returning unpaid. Mortgages rent utilities and car finance and that's before court cases.
The only people I see getting away with this are genuine scroungers with nothing living in houses owned by the council.
Imagine the wailings when they have no food for 5 weeks....too many safety nets in place to stop that happening.
As posted earlier, there are means to divert payments away from the banks in the first instance and if the social welfare paid is not recieved (which it isnt, if its paying down a debt) that raises scope for hardship funds etc.
I think you've repeated yourself 100 times
Let's see
There's no big upside to government helping a ragtag collection of scrotes here
There are ways to keep the money flowing. Collecting from the Post Office will probably be the easiest and who cares if they are overdrawn at BoI?
They dont work so wont be put on a payment plan.
Exactly. Now some people are thinking this through.
What makes you think that? Will BOI feel sorry for them?
Their accounts will go into minus and any welfare will reduce this figure. I pity the CWO's because they will face the abuse when Tomo, Jacinta and their offspring are in screaming for a handout.
They could and more than likely the smarter ones will have used mygov.ie and immediately cancelled payment to the bank and opted for p.o. collection. Most of these folk will never pay a cent back and fair play to them. People with old unused BOI accounts that may have still contained a few euro thus keeping it active will have been laughing all the way to the bank.
Despite the rhetoric on here most of them will be in the clear. Lots of the population here have no fear of authority and without that fear the banks will have a hard job getting any response from them
They wont go 5 weeks without cash. They will have it diverted to the post office or get a hardship fund or whatever.
But they wont be going 5 weeks with no money. The govt and social services wont allow it.
So those on 100% soci welfare will go 5 weeks withput any money?
it just wont happen.
I had to give 6 months of statements when I opened an account recently
Yet today you see people all over Ireland still firing that out in regards to SF TD's. Absolute nonsense
Paul Murphy is the same with his free legal aid. People lapped it up and it was rubbish as well
When I left BOI over a decade ago, that was pretty standard 😆
Could be asked for bank statements in time , may show if they participated in the fraud
Hugely embarrassing for the bank and for Ireland in general. It’s made international headlines, and that’s not good.
Very interested to understand exactly what occurred. No doubt blame will be directed to a failure with an outsourced provider. Sounds like lack of proper safe guards across multiple layers. Surely better monitoring would have allowed them to shut down temporarily while they recover?
Anyways, much of this money is unrecoverable. Some people don’t care about credit ratings.
Heads absolutely should to roll for this one, even if the loses were acceptable.
Quite a few international publications picked up on it today. The comments sections were not too complimentary of our intelligence as a country as the slant was that everyone was getting involved.
Seen some dog rough stuff stereotypes I thought had been consigned to the dustbins of history.
This type of thing and the recent embassy alerts are very damaging to reputation. There is a small cohort of the population causing immense damage and we all suffer for it.
