Large queues at Bank of Ireland ATMs this evening.

Well at least the facial recognition is finally working on their app
Why would we believe that a great many travellers and Roma have BofI accounts? Seems improbable, maybe a few.
Sure the ones that do may get away with it, if they up sticks and leave the country, though even opening an account elsewhere could be tricky and cash for all it's worth has it's limits these days.
Looking at the Clientele of the ATMs, they don't look like folk that have a regular wage paid into the bank.
Most of them will likely get away with it. €1000 is in that fine area where it wouldn't be worth the Banks resources to pursue it. They'll send letters out, tons of them. A Euro a pop, plus man hours. They'll offer a payment plan. They'll threaten with debt collectors, but the collector will never come.
The people will just open accounts elsewhere. They are not folks that will ever be applying for legitimate loans/mortgages etc.
If they hold firm, they'll get away with it.
The banks reputation would take a hit for retrieving stolen money?? That’s a new one for me.
Has anyone actually got any transactions from yesterday showing in their account ?? I went to do a bit of a food shop after work yesterday and that money still hasn’t been taken out. It doesn’t even show the transaction as pending it is as if it never happened.
I think it's pretty well publicised he doesn't take his full TDs wage
This is the greatest trick these tds have pulled, sinn fein used to do the same. He absolutely takes his full wage. He can do with it what he likes, nobody really knows what he gives to the party or gets back from the party. But the key thing is he is paid 100k and spends it whatever way he wants
Not if they have it paid into a bank account.
He came up with that because he wanted free legal aid. The report was he had an agreement with Anti-Austerity Alliance Party that meant he only got 1800 per month and the rest went to the party. That party has disappeared into one of the multiple versions. Do we really believe that in the first place? second off I very much doubt its still the case if it ever was
SF TD was caught out during covid when he was shouting about not taking a pay raise. He was disgusted that after he became a TD he was given a raise. Then during covid he was caught with huge expenses. He lived in Dublin and nobody could travel. Strangely he hasn't popped his head up since.
No idea why anyone would believe that bulls**t that these TD's are not taking their pay.
That dope Liadh ni Raida inadvertantly blew the lid off that particular SF lie during the 2018 presidential campaign
All banks will be very wary of new customers .They will be asked questions that will be very hard to answer
@angela1711 i checked my account this morning and it showed pending transactions. Then I checked this afternoon and they were gone. One of them is a payment due into my account which is shown as paid by the provider but now doesn’t appear in my account. It better show soon back into my account as it’s a few hundred euro!!
The stupidity of the people that queued at ATM's is off the planet. Brain cells in very very short supply.
I’m looking forward to the outrage thread on Boards when it’s all fixed and the pj brigade have balances of minus and their direct debits etc all bounce.
Quite a few international publications picked up on it today. The comments sections were not too complimentary of our intelligence as a country as the slant was that everyone was getting involved.
Seen some dog rough stuff stereotypes I thought had been consigned to the dustbins of history.
This type of thing and the recent embassy alerts are very damaging to reputation. There is a small cohort of the population causing immense damage and we all suffer for it.
Hugely embarrassing for the bank and for Ireland in general. It’s made international headlines, and that’s not good.
Very interested to understand exactly what occurred. No doubt blame will be directed to a failure with an outsourced provider. Sounds like lack of proper safe guards across multiple layers. Surely better monitoring would have allowed them to shut down temporarily while they recover?
Anyways, much of this money is unrecoverable. Some people don’t care about credit ratings.
Heads absolutely should to roll for this one, even if the loses were acceptable.
Could be asked for bank statements in time , may show if they participated in the fraud
When I left BOI over a decade ago, that was pretty standard 😆
Yet today you see people all over Ireland still firing that out in regards to SF TD's. Absolute nonsense
Paul Murphy is the same with his free legal aid. People lapped it up and it was rubbish as well
I had to give 6 months of statements when I opened an account recently
So those on 100% soci welfare will go 5 weeks withput any money?
it just wont happen.
They wont go 5 weeks without cash. They will have it diverted to the post office or get a hardship fund or whatever.
But they wont be going 5 weeks with no money. The govt and social services wont allow it.
They could and more than likely the smarter ones will have used mygov.ie and immediately cancelled payment to the bank and opted for p.o. collection. Most of these folk will never pay a cent back and fair play to them. People with old unused BOI accounts that may have still contained a few euro thus keeping it active will have been laughing all the way to the bank.
Despite the rhetoric on here most of them will be in the clear. Lots of the population here have no fear of authority and without that fear the banks will have a hard job getting any response from them
What makes you think that? Will BOI feel sorry for them?
Their accounts will go into minus and any welfare will reduce this figure. I pity the CWO's because they will face the abuse when Tomo, Jacinta and their offspring are in screaming for a handout.
Exactly. Now some people are thinking this through.
There are ways to keep the money flowing. Collecting from the Post Office will probably be the easiest and who cares if they are overdrawn at BoI?
They dont work so wont be put on a payment plan.
I think you've repeated yourself 100 times
Let's see
There's no big upside to government helping a ragtag collection of scrotes here
Imagine the wailings when they have no food for 5 weeks....too many safety nets in place to stop that happening.
As posted earlier, there are means to divert payments away from the banks in the first instance and if the social welfare paid is not recieved (which it isnt, if its paying down a debt) that raises scope for hardship funds etc.
Why won't they be put on a payment plan? You are very naive if you believe boi will just walk away.
I can only imagine the headlines to come when direct debits start returning unpaid. Mortgages rent utilities and car finance and that's before court cases.
The only people I see getting away with this are genuine scroungers with nothing living in houses owned by the council.
Yes, thats who i am talking about. Unemployed social welfare folks.
working folks will have to pay it back, but they generally wouldnt have been dumb enough to withdraw the cash.
No payment plan for the former group, though.
