Exactly. And given its the banks error, they wont withold the money and will either pay out the welfare or arrange for it to be paid outside of the account.
Can you imagine the uproar if social welfare folks didnt get any money for 4 weeks?

BOI will just reverse the bank transfer or cancel it if it hasn't processed.
If only there was an alternative to banks, some kind of decentralised currency that was easy to use, with free/cheap and instantaneous transactions that used some form of bullet-proof blockchain technology.

Surely any half decent responsible adult should have a reasonable idea how much is in your account at a given time, certainly well within a margin of error of a grand. Most people's pay (from employer, SW or whatever source) and direct debits are regular.
Those close to being overdrawn would probably be even more aware than average.
It shouldn't be, and probably isn't, a defence to "not know" there wasn't enough cash there when we're talking about €1000.

Your knowledge or the Irish criminal courts, or indeed any courts in general is obviously primitive. So everybody who withdraws money from a BOI account on this date is liable? What is an old lady clicked 400 on the keypad instead of 100? And she had 150 in the account?
