Ehhhhhhh it's very simple to stop payments that are due to go into accounts.
Do you seriously think the type of people taking the piss here care about their future credit rating or status with banks? It's already shot in most cases
In any case, for the few non dodgy people there's online bank accounts freely available now
its not about the payments themselves, its the fact they wont have the means to pay back the grand they just withdrew from the ATM.
Where are you off to then?
Large queues still at ATMs around the country.
True. But its also a vaild reason not to lock out ATMs
Moscow.
What do you think would have happened if the gardai weren't there and the last person before the ATM shut down stuck their card in 3 times? Or someone decided to skip the queue?
They SHOULD have been there for public order reasons, but It doesn't look like that's why they were there.
the ones that will lose sleep are the folks with jobs that withdrew money as they will have to pay it back.
The ones without jobs, wont have to pay it back.
The Navan queue video is mostly Travellers and Roma people.
So they will just open up a new bank account with some other bank and never repay the money?
So the BOI account it was transferred to Revolut from will go from 0 to -1000, with welfare coming in bringing it to -800. Any incomings would essentially go directly to paying it back.
Logs. There's transaction logs, online banking log in records, attempted withdrawal logs. The data will be there as required to be an operating Regulated Financial Services Provider. Shouldn't be difficult at all to build a picture and figure out who was aware of what and spot where intent is clear.
That's why I was saying earlier the banks won't have any option but try and work out a payment plan.
That's my point, ergo they themselves will defacto have no weekly payment until their account is back in balance. It will be paid, they just wont be able to withdraw it. If on the disability or whatever that puts those people in a bad place for as much time as however much is overdrawn. Very odd thing to do.
Payments are 210, 220 per week? If 1000 overdrawn that's over 4 weeks with no money to withdraw.
What does a fully loaded ATM hold, think I heard €250k mentioned before.
Would they not just take the cash out which leaves the account at -1000.
But they dont need to pay it back because they have no income.
They don’t need to be about to emigrate they could be away for years with an account still open same for all the Eastern European’s and whoever else opened an account years ago here and went home
Which wont happen for the unemployed.
Yes, but that won't stop them opening an account with a positive balance.
Videos and pictures still coming in of queues on O'Connell Street, Sutton Cross and Blackpool in Cork.
Most of the people in the queues are wearing track suits.
I think the IT controls went so very badly wrong that a “per machine per transaction” limit ended up being in operation. The morning will tell a lot of exactly how much money some people were able to withdraw. Seems to be a massive, massive issue.
Unless you have an agreed overdraft of 1000, you won't be able to withdraw again until your account is in the positive.
They can't just take out the weekly money and reset the debt.
Don’t need a payment plan- just deposit that 1000 that doesn’t belong to you back into your account tomorrow 😀
But if they already have their welfare set up to go into the account then it’s probably too late to change it, certainly for this week’s payment, it will transfer automatically.
If they collect from the post office then yeah, can’t see them using that account again.
There is no way they wont be able to withdraw the money. They will just collect over the counter or seitch the method of payment.
I take the grand. i spend it. I now have no money. bank cant withold my cash for 4 weeks judt because they f**ked up and let me take out an extra grand.
They might pay a fiver a week back or something. Either way it's a win.
The bank authorised the transaction. There is no way the banks wont pay out welfare for a calendar month.
They really wont.
It's not "an extra grand"
If your account is overdrawn, you can't withdraw money. Simple as that. You'll be hearing some sob stories in the coming days I think.
So if an ATM held 100k, you only need 100 of these idiots to empty it and much less if they’re making multiple attempts
All d'jaysusing bankers fault, of course.
