Large queues at Bank of Ireland ATMs this evening.

The AnPost Bank application website has collapsed
take the money and run merchants I would presume
Just wipe them with a wet cloth, then polish them with a dry one.
Sounds like the idiots getting money out are not really thinking this through. Interest, identity, over drawn account fees…?
another day older and deeper in debt springs to mind!
Doubt the post office will entertain them- anyway these things take weeks to organise so if payments currently going into your account they’ll likely continue to do so for coming weeks- in the meantime they already have their social welfare payments in cash in advance 😀
what about folks that need to use the ATMs and have funds in their account?
A lot of the "these idiots have no brains cells" posts are laughable. Try proving as a prosecutor in court that the defendant knew his account was empty and didn't have 500 quid in it
Yeah these accounts will go into negative, that's obvious. Might affect the credit rating of the portion who actually care, if they don't pay back.
The likes of the cohort queuing outside ATMs in tallaght don't exactly care about a credit rating that's already likely shot to pieces. The money's gone and won't be recovered
Not if they are unemployed they wont
And add theft if the intention is to permanently deprive the bank of their money. Which wouldn't be too hard to prove if people are closing the account after immediately transferring it out.
With BOI 20+ years here and have always been generally happy but this is laughable - in the last while nearly every technical issue with a bank has involved them. They've also been lagging behind technologically for years. Took them much longer than the rest to implement Apple Pay for example.
Once my fixed rate period ends on the mortgage I'm gone now I reckon.
A lot of people will have that transferred directly to their accounts.
Can they have that set up to revolut for the next payment? Unlikely they’ll get a new bank account set up by then.
Depends if the payments go direct to their bank accounts or not. If they do go direct to bank account than the account in most cases will presumably be overdrawn.
There will be a few happy customers of BOI who are emigrating in the next few days or weeks CHA CHING€€
They seem to be, there's a video showing Gardai in front of 3 ATMs, I suspect if you requested access you'd be denied. As said elsewhere, awful optics; Getting battered in the city centre? Nary a guard in sight. ATMs paying out more than they should? Guards in front of every machine.
I expect they wont pay it back in a lot of cases.
Try proving as a prosecutor in court that the defendant knew his account was empty and didn't have 500 quid in it
It's called transaction history and basic maths.
The money will be recovered one way or another, either tomorrow or a year from now, but they'll get it.
Haha, **** idiots. As if the bank are just gonna go “ah yeah fair dues, keep the telly”
Emigrating with €1000? Where are they off to, The Congo?
They will continue to be charged fees for **** all service.
I did not hear of anyone stealing an atm…… on the other hand there might be a need to preserve law and order when it dawns on people that. ATMs have a limited amount of cash and it might run out before they get their free money.
You realise if they have an account with BOI, the bank has their details, right? Or if they’re using an AIB, then AIB have their details, or Revolut, etc etc.
Does anyone know what was the outcome of the ATM that was loaded incorrectly a few years back where something like the €20's were loaded with €50's so if you withdrew €60 you were actually getting €150?
Exactly not a garda matter, they shouldn't get involved
Exactly. Its not like people are robbing a bank.
Oh wait....
I doubt many will lose sleep. I read somewhere that BOI profits were up 1 billion in the first quarter alone. Hopefully a lot of people who havent much filled their boots tonight.
They'll need something to fill their time when their next wage packet is for 39 euro.
Eh not quite- any payments mandated to go into their accounts over the coming days or even weeks are now too late to stop- ie social welfare payments most likely- so these will soak up at least some if not most of the money withdrawn-in addition criminal prosecutions or indeed arrests are highly unlikely at this point- but you can be refused a bank account and that can make life very difficult for you -I think you’ll find many of these “idiots” will eventually come to their senses when they realise just what idiots they really are
Yes they made over €1billion in profit for the first 6 months of this year, more than enough for them to call up private security to man the ATM's.
Exactly. With everything that's going on.
Who were already emigrating. Alot more than 1000 were withdrawn from some accounts tonight.
but they can still withdraw cash that they dont have from the ATM.
They have no means of paying it back.
Doesn't matter a f**k. They'd probably go back and shave off yet more overheads to increase their profit margins. This continuing incompetence by private banks may eventually lead to central bank digital currency (CBDCs) moving closer to reality IMO. If this is the shoe up the backside to make them get their house in order, bring it on I say.
Crime stats will be down everywhere tonite
They'll all be too busy at the ATMs
