It was an An Oige hostel once. Stayed there a couple of times. Was a beautiful spot on a summer’s evening. Bleak as heck on a wet November day. You can still see the mark of the An Oige triangular sign on the front of the building.
Pure Stephen King vibes from the interior.
It's a no from me.
Over half a million to go back to the 1980s in rural donegal. The main pic looks like a print of the aerial view of the house, which was present in all 1980s houses!
Ridiculous pricing.
Here's an article on the houses history
In what world is that house "modern" 😂🤣
It looks like there was a violent scuffle in every room just before the pictures were taken
Haven't looked yet but now I have to! 😁
Reception Hall Three ornate ceiling lights (not included in the sale). Why even mention these? There's no picture of the 'Reception Hall', it's a bungalow!!??
Premium for pre-dating mica perhaps?
Kind of the arsehole of no where and no BER rating but this seems a good price at 260k where you compare it to that Donegal house.
Premium for sea views and 3.2 acres of land. Still too much though!
Its claiming a B3 rating, which is amazing for the kind of house it is. Looks like the seller is going to try and squeeze in another house/site beside it on the bit of land not included in the sale. It doesn't appeal to me tbh but seems like decent value.
Nice mansion, I wonder did they run out of money with the one unfinished room or just too big and no need to finish it.
Its about 10k from the sea in fairness, or coast if you want to be specific. They are getting good value from saying the gweebarra estuary is tidal that far.
Hopefully they will offload this oneas well at some stage. Passed it recently and they are doing feck all with it

Comes with basement full of gold bars (will be emptied prior to sale)
What was the story with all the country bungalows having aerial pictures back then? Did a photographer charter magnum PI and his chopper and randomly land beside peoples houses offering them lol so odd.
Not wrong on the pricing.
You wouldnt want to have a trip coming out of the doorway.
That's a shame though last I heard the whole roof had been removed so I'm glad to hear something has been done with it. I remember staying there as a kid in the hostel with my dad and siblings, they were still male and female separated dorms and my sister of course needed the loo during the night so I had to take her out to the toilet block with a torch (no electricity or indoor toilets). Will never forget that experience - a total new experience for a kid from Blanchardstown out in the pure dark with the wind blowing in the trees, lol.
Shamelessly stolen from another thread on here.....
God almighty - €900pm for a tiny bit of attic space!
A low flying plane with expensive camera and equipment(for the time) took a picture of everyone's house and then called to your door a later date asking if you wanted to buy the picture.
Is that an electrical distribution board next to the bed?
And an oil filled electric heater running of pre-paid. Maybe you get all of the rising heat in winter from the open stair.
Yes. My parents had one of those photos. 😁
I think someone was captured outside the house, looking up towards the plane and all.
I love it.
I love this, it has so much potential, lots of original features and well kept if sparse at the moment. It could be fabulous. I love the grandeur of the bathroom - I think it's the steps down into it and the huge windows that does it for me! €280k
Love it!
I love that too, the bathroom is crying out for a claw foot tub.
That leitrim house is lovely😍
I don't think the Leitrim house would stand very close inspection, it has some very rough edges and a ber of F.
The house photos were taken from a helicopter, hovered in front of each house for a minute or so. Great excitement when it showed up in rural Roscommon, I'd never seen a flying helicopter so close up.
Guy came around a few weeks later (2-3 months I think) to sell them. They were very expensive for the time, choice of sizes and with or without frames. biggest one in a frame was £50, which was big money in 1985. Hard salesman as well. My mother refused to buy one as the car was dirty and it was a real banger of a Datsun, also we had dirty work clothes and wellies on.
He asked who the other person in the photo was, she said her uncle, so salesman went up to his house and he bought it. I remember him talking about the expense of getting the Chopper and that he couldn't book it in advance, as he could only take photos on sunny days. Quite a few people bought them, but at the lower end, about £25 for one of the smaller ones I think.
One of the sales pitches was that he wouldn't be around again for another 25 years,. By then (2010) we had Google Earth and Streetview, which would have been impossible to imagine in the mid- 80's. Now I have a top class €400 drone that can do the job in a resolution that would be inconceivable back then.
Actually crazy when you think of it.
EDIT: Nobody back them was suspicous of him. Today he'd be shot at for getting info for robbing farms, or info for Revenue or for housing refugees or some other conspiracy idea.
